Dad passed 3 years ago, and I had this album well before his passing and became a father around the time it came out. Looking back on both relationships, this bittersweet song hits hard, so hard I haven't listened to it until today, with you two. ❤..Thanks.
I was fortunate enough to have seen Clapton in concert once, and it was amazing! I love this song. I never had a close relationship with my father but now I am a father and yeah there are time I wish I had a father to turn to for fatherly advice and how to handle different situations that arise with children. This song always hits me.
Beautiful reaction, as always. Wish you could react to Eric Clapton's "River of Tears" Live on Tour 2001 at Staples Center. One of my favourite songs from him.
Dear Andrei and Dominika, this is a very painful song indeed, as there are these mixed feelings of loss and healing. I lost my father too early, my mother passed away last July. It's difficult to express how I feel. There is an emptiness, because it's no easy to let go. There was another loss, but it's personal. I think about them often and, somehow, I feel peace. Dear Daminika, even if tears may come sometimes your smile shows the strength to keep going and you have Andrei by your side. A big hug from Porto.
This is Eric's tribute to his father after he found out who his father was, since he never knew him (he was a Candian airman during World War 2), so the first verse was him wondering how he will grow up without a father and always looking for him, the second verse is about him doubting himself as a father since he grew up without one so hw has no foundation to build upon, and the final verse is him in the twilight of his life feeling the anger of not knowing his father and fogiving him for not being there and realizing that his father with him all the time.
This song was inspired by his having never met his father. His mother got pregnant as a teen by a Canadian soldier stationed in the UK during WWII. He was originally told she was his sister, and that his grandparents were his parents because of the stigma of unwed motherhood at the time. He learned the truth when he was a teen, but never knew the man, so he never looked into his father's eyes for love or approval.
Pilgrim , the album this song came from has so many great songs, I hope you can do a few more from it. May I suggest" Born in Time" a Bob Dylan cover, and " Only the Broken Hearted"..( there is a live version with John Mayer, both playing acoustic guitar, on Larry King Show, for Haiti relief after the earthquake. ❤️✌️...please explore the Pilgrim album.
Yalls movement to this song, understanding, and God is the Father's Eyes through Life

This man has so much soul and sensibility. On guitar, on anything else. He May not be "God", but an angel for sure. Love that bro !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Eric has always been my favorite rock guitarist and one of my favorite singer/songwriters as well. Thanks very much for your excellent reactions.
