My dad played this when friends were over at his funeral we could only find a rendition with words. This is what we had wanted. We just had the anniversary of his passing yesterday and I’m thankful I was able to share this with all my family and we will every year THANKYOU
Wow, great piece. Took me all kinds of places and had overtones, or would it be undertones, of Amazing Grace at one point. Then when the third section starts it's almost like a whole load of other instruments join in. Beautiful sound.
Lol, this tune has a "smell" to it... A combination of whisky and perfume and mildew and cigarettes and haggis and Iron Brew and tea... Och, memories! ❤🏴
I am afraid I am a copy cat I play the same as you I just love this tune and yes you have nailed it so that must mean I have to :) thank you for the inspiration
I am self taught as well. Just bought myself a Hohner 120 bass. I love that tune and the way you emulated the pipes fingerings. There's a name for it which escapes me but pioers do it. Your accordeon sounds really Scottish if that makes sense. I feel very proud of the Scott's when I hear that tune although I am a Brit. It is so mournful and full of meaning when slow but pretty when waltzed. You are fantastic and keep em coming. I will learn that tune now.
Great tune; every piper knows it, but I think it might be a theme-song from a TV show back in the 70's...? (I remember being told that by an older piper, but I never really thought about it until now)... It doesn't matter, really; It may not be an "old" tune, but it's a nice one... I like the waltz part that this guy does; the harmonies are very "ceilidh"... If makes me think of Burns night and getting stabbed by old ladies with pins trying to pin heather onto my jacket/lapel/bonnet... Very sentimental! (I suppose this tune could be effectively rendered as a Strathspey if you really wanted; wouldn't harm the thing.)
The best version I've heard since the original from the BBC's series of the same name in the early sixties, the only thing missing is the lapping of the waves and the gulls overhead. Thanks Mike Brass.
Oh wow ! you have nailed it You are so much better than I am I make mistakes all the time and can't seem to over come them ..But this is Beautiful playing
If you're a beginner and self taught Sean, then that was bloody good! Well done. Please upload some more. I'm self taught too so I know how much effort went into that.
Thank you Peejay. I must get it back out. It's been up the loft since Christmas time as I have no room for it in my house. Not really played much since I took this video last summer. I'll see what I can do :). Appreciate the feedback, many thanks for your kind words.
You have an obvious talent Sean. Space is always a problem (so the wife tells me) - I have 5 playable instruments plus others awaiting renovation. The loft is not a favorite place for storage - too much temperature change. I hope you manage to play some more. (A nice accordion by the way.)
Im self taught too although have had a few lessons on reading music in the last few years, Have to say its a great song well played sir... keep um coming
Practice practice practice! My tips! hahaha I am 14 and wanted to learn accordion about half a year ago... Found one in my grandpa's attic... Only a 12 bass so is a wee bit easier to play, but boring as there is no minor chords or anything..... Just practice because that's what I did!
I'm wondering if you can help me.my accordion is 48 bass so has no B minor button, the Bm chord comes up a lot in scottish tunes.I don't know how to get round it.regards
