- With our off-season testing complete, it's time to build the new Witch Doctor! BattleBots VII had the shortest build schedule so far, and the team had to put in long hours to overcome unforeseen issues, late packages, and even a hurricane! See everything it takes to build Witch Doctor from start to finish.

Love seeing all the background stuff. Weird, little technical hangups, parts that aren't quite as you wanted them, tiny, insignificant machining errors that end up being really important and need to be fixed... There's so much that doesn't get shown in the polished show, and I'm always eager for more of the background stuff.
What a great ep! It really puts into perspective how much work goes into these bots. And with such a tight deadline as well! I'm impressed so many bots are able to make it to the event with all of their parts.

With the absence of many pit segments that we saw in 2019, this show is an awesome insight into the team along with all the other online shows and podcasts.

Thanks for letting us have a peak, almost as good as being a fly on the wall just to watch and listen, being able to see the design foibles, and that you guys have to massage imperfect parts to work really helps appreciate what goes into building one of these.

I really wish they would broadcast this in the uk it’s hard to find this show and I love it so much I’ve been watching robot combat ever since the 1st robot wars in the uk as a kid since that’s shut down now there nothing even close to ether for uk if u ask me good luck witch doctor

At what stage do you embed it with voodoo magic? Is it before you ship it out or after final assembly in Vegas?
Hows come not all the walls have notches or some sort of design to take load off the screws? I noticed that in the one video where you tested the brushless drive the frame seemed a little like jello, however with the forces being crazy strong, i doubt notching would totally fix this, but if I had to guess it would probably help

That’s my (Andrea) car! We’ve been a few times, and we took the team last year when our season finale viewing party overlapped with the Gambler dates in FL!
When you order parts are you ordering multiples of them so you have spares, do you just order one and make sure everything is right before ordering spares and hope they arrive on time, or do you just order one and hope that the parts don't get written off completely in a battle? I'm guessing maybe a bit of each, but then how do you decide which is the best approach for a part?
Do you have a torque spec for any of the chassis bolts or do you just run them in with an impact wrench?

Powder coating is certainly an option for some of the components. Historically we have anodized many parts. With the tight timeline we had, there was no time for either of those finishing methods.

Its like a 3 day drive to vegas. Why did you have to ship so early?

Since ~50 teams are all shipping numerous large and heavy creates, there is a significant amount of freight that arrives at the venue. It is a lot for staff to receive and unload!
It is important that everyone has all their belongings arrive at the pits. Building in some buffer time is crucial in the event delays occurred. All of the robots start arriving a few days before filming starts.
