Good day, Giovanna! Thank you for sharing this video! Everything is excellent!!! Especially I liked your manner of making cavatelli. Earlier I didn't know that cavatelli could be prepared so easy. It's a know-how to me. God bless you and your husband.
You were so right saying we’re always looking for therapy and duh it’s been here all along! Cooking, using your hands! Simplicity in life brings joy, thank you for the reminder xx
A person after my own heart! I would add knitting and crochet to your list to stave off dementia with all the math and thinking that those crafts require, and BTW I say this for both men and women!
This is one of our favorite meals, and I don't wait for New Years day to enjoy it! Lentils and Broccoli are delicious together, the Cotechino enriches the meal, and the Cavatelli either the same day or on another day are very satisfying!
We had the pleasure ivf visiting Vienna for 10 days when our Granddaughter participated in a competition of Youth Orchestras from all over the world, and her New Jersey Youth Orchestra won the first prize. She is now a graduate of the Mannes Conservatory in New York City and a Violinist!
Happy new year! my husband is Alabamitalian so we did collard greens, corn bread, and lentils with sausage (I couldn't get to Jerry's for the cotechino in time so we just did some sausages) which was a good cross cultural NYD feast. And I couldn't agree more that big hands on kitchen projects like pasta or dumplings are very therapeutic!
Good day to you Giovanna ! Just recently I found your videoes. I like your way of cooking so I subscribed. I am an 82 year old Icelandic woman and I live alone so cooking is a bit dull. But I look forward to try your recipes and I will let you know. Thanks to you and best wishes to Howard.❤️👋🍀🤓
Well! Thank you my friend from Iceland! I'm 84 and I still love to cook, although my energy level is waining! Most of my recipes can be made in small portions, and when there are leftovers refrigerate them for another time, or occasionally, invite a friend to share them with you.
Happy New Year! What a wonderful Sicilian tradition! I love broccoli soup! It was a staple in my weekly meal planning for my five children growing up! I would use homemade chicken broth with broccoli and bow tie pasta (farfalle) most of the time! Sprinkle with parmesan and Bon Appetito! My kids loved it! I still make it for myself all the time and I too love the broccoli stems! I am definitely going to make this meal! I'll have to try and find the sweet sausage roll at a specialty store. Plus I haven't had lentils in a long time! Perfect for a cold winter night! Thank you so much for this wonderful food presentation! I enjoy your videos so much! Ciao!
Ciao Annette, This is the traditional New Years dinner, but once a year is not enough! We all love this particular menu. Cotechino is generally not hard to find, but it's worth the search. You can always buy it on line.
What a feast, Giovanna! I was so tickled to see this new video so soon after the last two. What a treat for us viewers! I love lentils AND broccoli. I’m going to try this dish. Happy New Year and Best Wishes! Marlene 😊
Lentils and broccoli, beans and celery, chickpeas and dill, are great combinations; add small pasta and a generous amount of Extra Virgin Olive Oil at the table for a delicious soup! Happy New Year.
You are the 1st person that I've seen peel the broccoli 🥦 stem and eat them like I do ... I've been doing that for years - it was always a treat for my daughters - even now that they are adults ! Thank you for your amazing recipes & tips ❤️ I just ordered your cookbook and am looking forward to receiving it ! Happy New Year 🎉 🥳 🥂
Peeled broccoli stems are a treat for the cook and whoever is around to share them. I also immediately remove and enjoy the core of iceberg lettuce....my guilty pleasures! Happy New Year to you.
Happy New Year Giovanna and family 🥂. I love the broccoli stems too but I cook them. I always have to add red pepper flakes to broccoli. My father and his family used to love cotechino. We never see it anymore but we live on Long Island. Great use of the lentils as both the main dish and the soup.
There must be Italian deli's on Long Island that sell Cotechino! We live in Bergen County, NJ, and our local Whole Foods carries it. It's worth searching for it! I save all broths made with legumes: beans, chickpeas, fave, lentils and vegetables and make soups. We don't waste anything!
Happy New Year🎉 I have found serval "I loves" Giovanna. #1- I love your turquoise bracelet❤ #2-the color green in the kitchen❤ #3-kitchen madonna hanging on the wall. #4-olive oil decanter and ceramic salt box. #5- The painting hanging in an angle, did you do that?
The pure happiness when Siri set the timer for you! 🤎 you make everything look possible! The gnocchi video especially! I always considered it to be a much more intricate, time consuming project!
I guess, Italian women never retire from Cooking; we take pleasure in it during our entire life! Please go to PASTA GRANNIES on You Tube to prove my point!
Giovanna, help! Your Sicilian Feasts book is unavailable on Amazon. 😞☹️😖😫🥺😭🆘 Will you be replenishing the stock? If so, when? Because I went from someone who never heard of you to not wanting a day to go by without spending time with you via your videos and, I need that cookbook! My father’s parents, neither of whom I knew, emigrated from Sicily and your cookbook will bring them back to me, know a piece of them. 🙏🏻
It's therapeutic and you can eat it! 😄
That's the best of both worlds!
Your videos along with your recipes warm my heart ❤️.
My Pleasure!
You brought back many memories of me cooking with my mother for New Year’s. Thank you, Giovanna.

My mom also peels the stems, but she cooks them. They are the sweetest part of the broccoli.
We also peel and eat the broccoli stem but we chop it and cook it along with the rest of the broccoli. I’ll have to try it raw too.
Happy new year Giovanna! The meal looks delicious!
Thank you, Sarah, and Happy New Year to you!
