How must it be to finally be free of Asad, only to realize you have to rebuild everything he destroyed. Much luck and love to the people of Syria on moving forward with their lives and hopefully into a better future.

Am praying that Syria will not end up as worse as Iran after the downfall of its last monarch.
The Syrians should continue to remain vigilant and fight for their inherent rights to remain free from the clutches of corrupt and abusive dictators. Long live the people of Syria!!!

Syria was a Baathist Republic, not a Monarchy like Iran pre-1979. Your comparison doesn't make much sense.

@@paulheydarian1281 It’s your reply to my comment that does not makes sense! It seems that you did not understand it well. There was no direct comparison made in my comment between the two countries. Besides, internet is aplenty with info that Iran under its Shah was an absolute monarchy, the latter being an authoritarian ruler.

Am not a native English speaker but it is very clear in the last sentence of my comment that “its last monarch” refers to Iran and not to Syria which under the Assads was a REPUBLIC only on paper as its fallen Head of State ruled with iron fist.

@@paulheydarian1281 Although it was not a monarchy, the Essad family held power for around 50 years. In addition, Syria faced the threat of extremist religious militants who can be still in Syria and the neighbouring countries. So I also fear that the threat of an Islamic regime is still hanging in the air. But I pray for the free, peaceful and modern Syria.

How do you heal a traumatised nation? Take the violence out of the equation? Hand in all the weapons, build civil society, focus on the children's future?

This is the most refreshing review of the situation. It is from someone impacted and at least seemingly in the know. And such a grounded review of this leader. It gives me hope. My knowledge is limited but I am hoping their success can reflect that of Jordan who is seemingly never in the news and seems like a stable country.

Yes, please Syria stop using the electricity that the Americans invented for you and the rest of the world to use. And stop using vehicles that we invented for you. And stop using computers that we invented and the programs that we invented and websites that we invented. And stop using cell phones and the satellites and networks that we invented. And stop wearing the clothes made by modern textile machines that the US invented. And stop eating food grown with modern techniques and fertilizer and planted and harvested by machines all invented by Americans. And stop using oil production invented by western countries and stop using televisions, aircraft, and modern shipping that was all invented by Americans. And stop using modern medicine and vaccines invented by Americans. Yes, please just stop.

Just clicked to see Amanpour trying to dance around the big elephant in the room that is that Israel bombing Hizballah and Iranian proxies had a HUGE effect on this issue... Was not surprised, she is top notch at misinforming her viewers.
    Viewer beware as they say.
