It is a major question for Syrians(whether they realize it or not), because it points to the direction where the country is going. There are Syrians who drink alcohol(Christians or even Muslims with a non-radical interpretation of Islam), if they are punished for it, it means the new government cares more about Sharia law than about protecting people's freedoms, and other rights will be removed step by step over time. Every country that goes that way turns into a dictatorship, and Syrians know what dictatorship means. They need to choose whether they want a country like Afghanistan, Iran, or like secular Turkey.

With the weapons industry being a nearly $44 billion business, resolving conflicts in the Middle East would significantly impact their GDP. However, the Arab world is aware of the truth, thanks to Al Jazeera, making it difficult for the BBC Arab channel is to mislead its Arabic audience.

@@minasoliman It's funny how little you know and how little your informations. France is about 10% Muslims, the same as Syria is Christians, yet every day people like you shout that the Muslim minority should respect the customs of French and Western society and integrate into Western society. But when it comes to a country with an overwhelming Islamic majority, and also where the current power is Muslims, you come out crying and shedding crocodile tears over the minorities there, and you are afraid to hear anything called "implementing Islamic law". Do you have a link to Reuters that says Ahmed Al-Sharaa was a “mastermind” of October 7th and prominent figure in Hamas? I think you got this out of your… This leader was a former ISIS. Highly doubt that he was any “figure” in Hamas. Israel actually helped these rebels. They would not have succeeded to take control of Syria in a few days if IDF didn’t destroy Hizbullah a few weeks earlier. Syrians were cheering IDF (plenty of vids) when IDF destroyed Hizb. Why? Because Iran used Hizbullah to go Syria to kill Syrian rebels when Assad was still a president. These Hizbullah fighters did a lot of atrocities, took properties from Syrians etc. Also, notice how in each interview he avoids question about Israel and says that Syria wants to co-exist peacefully with ALL its neighbors. However, he clearly said that Iran is no longer welcomed in Syria. So here is that.

And everyone sees that they are supplying the Israeli army with soldiers to fight Gaza.

Thank you, BBC. However, we urge you to cover the recent gathering in Damascus, where thousands of civilians fearfully came together to demand a secular state, not an Islamic one. In light of the recent extremist statements by the HTS spokesperson and the alarming exclusion of women and minorities from key government positions in the proposed all-male, sectarian interim government, which is composed entirely of one sect and completely excludes women, it is crucial that these voices be heard. Syrians are terrified as they witness the rise of a regime that undermines basic rights and freedoms, and they want a future that guarantees equality and respect for all.

Syria contains 12% Alawites, 5-10% Christians, 12% Kurds (more liberal Sunnah), and 10% of other minorities, unlike Afghanistan which is tribal community.
I think that forcing an Islamic system similar to Afghanistan will lead to another war, worse than the one ended, and this man doesn't want this.

,Syria is not a tribal country. And syrians are already tired from what they had gone through, why you still bring up about Afghanistan or whatever,Syria is different. Even in the time off Assad Syria has a freedom even women,Syria is a free country but of course at that time not free to speak about politics.but I will say again Syria is far different from your Afghanistan,Egypt,Libya etc...@@haidarkanaan756
