Service returns to normal today with The Captain is Dead: Dangerous planet. Definitely worth checking out if you like co-ops, but i'm not sure it fires the original game for me.
@@3MBG I've seen you use them, yes, but somehow in this one the information seemed to flow more clearly. Anyway, good job as always! ...And yeah, I too am guilty of using crap off of Google Images... 🙊
This game seems to share a lot of similarities with *_Forbidden Desert_* by *Gamewright Games.* Excellent video as always, very informative, thank you!
We have a heated debate of the wild card/alien language symbol on the relics and some character card discounts. Can relics be used with Any card (because wild card) or do you specifically need to use a wild card for it? And when using a character with that discount (like the spy) does that mean she gets a 1 card discount on Anything, or only the relic cards that specifically call for a wild? Please help!
I bought the original from your recommendation but not de-cellophaned yet. Love cooperative games (Pandemic, Flashpoint} so might still be worth buying\ playing? Do you think?
Great review Jarrod! I'm surprised you didn't keep this game for your collection. Does that mean you prefer the original version or none of the above? Would seem to be right up your alley (space theme and co-op). Thx!
Actually Avalon Hill did a Starship Troupers Board game in 1976. I've played it a few times and it totally felt out of balance. But that could be us getting "Avalon Hell" rule writing backwards. ~ smiles ~
Yes. Definitely. (I've played the original, but this seems very similar in this way.) If one or two people don't totally understand the rules, they won't feel like they can offer anything to the table. Once everyone's familiar with the rules, and options, and threats, anyone can make good decisions. That's a lot more than pandemic.
"-and wouldn't you know it! The Captain is Dead!" I relisten to this video just for this sometimes.

The moving arrow is a nice touch. It really helps - focuses the gaze. 👍🏽
I've used it a fair bit in the past. I should really get a bespoke one made for the channel and stop using clipart though :)

@@3MBGwhat is bespoke? Is that a higher quality arrow?
I'm beginning to think this crew's captains have the longevity of Spinal Tap drummers.
Lol, that's perfect.

Thanks for the review, this game looks fun!

I passed this game on to someone a while back, so not sure. Check on BGG

Definitely play the one you have first before trying as a lot of the core ideas are the same.

much prefer the original, its one of my fav co-ops
@@3MBGThe original exists as a videogame too.
That last clip made me wish for a starship troopers boardgame that wasn't made decades ago lol
For sure. The new game coming out "defence of procyon III" looks to have a bit of a starship troopers vibe to it

I've always wanted to check this series of games out. Do you think it's prone to quarterbacking, though? Thanks for the review!

I'd say the main problem with quarterbacking is a social one, not the game. But yes. As much as say Pandemic.
I enjoyed the original more than Dangerous Planet, but it might have been the theme for me.
It's Pikmin, the board game.
~ smiles ~
Never heard of that game before, just watched a trailer and it looks super cute
@@3MBG it is. The escape puzzles in the game are quite clever. It probably the reason some people bought a Game Cube.
