Thanks for a great demo of this pedal! I just bought one today after looking at yours, along with many others reviews of it. I gotta say that your demo is the one I kept coming back to though, so thanks again! Great job!
The fact that you are a great musician, how much you love playin, even if it's just for a pedal review, and you not givin shit about sharing mistakes, leaves me in a great sense of awe and gratitude. Beautiful review! :)
Great demo Thomas. You seem to be the only person that's demoed this that understands it's capabilities and plays to the sound. The tracking in the SY1 is outstanding but the SY200 seems even better. Boss/Roland are definitely class leading in tracking guitar. Ordered and will be attacking the parameters with MIDI. Keep up the great work, I really like your channel and am pleased to see I hadn't noticed your transition from 800 to 37k subscribers since I first subscribed. Well deserved!!!
Thanks for this review so much I've been waiting to know about this product before i buy and thank god you reviewed it...now i know its legit...thanks McRocklin, amazing job as usual...much respect
Thanks. I have a questions. Can i use my EV-5 expression pedal in it. In the PDF of the pedal on Boss website it's mention : You can connect a footswitch (FS-5U, FS-6 or FS-7, sold separately) to the CTL 2, 3/EXP jack, and use it to tap-input the tempo or to switch memories. Does that mean that EV-5 (Expression pedal) is not working on the SY-200? Realy important for me. But i can't find the answer anywhere. Someone can answer me ? Thanks alot !!!!
Sir , McRocklin. You inspired me to buy Boss sy-1!I'm about grateful to you! But now I really want sy- 200!I'm looking forward to a new guitar pedal and new sound possibilities! Thank you!
In a conventionally analog pedal, it lacks the ability to store the tuned sound and quickly (on the fly) switch during a song, performing live. Therefore, I switch to sy- 200 synthesizer!Yuhu! Спасибо!
I like this pedal and could use it. One of the delays I use a lot has a synth like sound to it. I would hope to be able to achieve something similar with this.
Have just purchased the SY200. What mode option do you use on the LS-2? Cant seem to get the seperate signal into my Neural DSP plugin on my Mac via my Scarlett 2i2. Maybe I should use Mainstage to separate the inputs. I presume thats how you have yours set up on your DAW?
Hey mate, sorry I changed setups since then. You’re more than welcome to pop on www.mcrocklin.com/discord as some people used that setup and either myself, or another member can help you set it up.
I’ve had an SY-1 on my pedalboard since 2020, and use it a lot, often blending it with my “regular” guitar tone, and sometimes also with my EHX Superego (synth/drone/sustainer). My board has an EHX Tri Parallel Mixer, so I can process the “regular” guitar devices, SY-1 and Superego in parallel, and combine the three “sections” at will. I have a few “go-to” SY-1 patches (synth pad and organ especially); switching between them in a live situation is a hassle, so the SY-200’s patch memories would be really handy. Is it possible to sync the tempo of the SY-200’s arp patches via TRS MIDI or tap-tempo, as I’ve got the latter set up on the SY-1 (via my Disaster Area Designs micro.clock and a custom cable)?
Hey ... could you maybe tell me how your effect chain is setup? Iam running a MarkVII with a drop and an overdrive before the amp and some modulations in the loop. I would like to mix the Sy200 with the high gain of my amp - but of course the sy signal is also overdriven then ... to get a nice mix which you have in this video - it feels like i need a second amp (and also a second set of modulation effects) - please tell me that i am wrong and just to blind to see an easier way ... thanks ...
The sy-1 has tone/rate in one knob, and depth in another. Am I to understand that the sy-200 has the tone and rate broken into separate knobs that can be independently controlled? If so, along with the ability to save presets might make it worth upgrading alone. Too bad this came out after I got the sy-1, ha ha. Might still be worth it.
Great Playing, but would like to know if this has some traditional sounds on it like big band brass, saxophone, horns, Fret-less bass, also, like classical/nylon string guitar etc.
Man great demo, that pedal seems just perfect with midi, just one question, does it also have classic effects like chorus, phaser, tremolo etc....delay and reverbs ? Thanks.
Just got this and updated to latest firmware. Fantastic sounds but I'm finding that when the SY is in my signal chain with other pedals, stomping the footswitch on the pedal immediately before turns the SY ON (from the OFF position). This happens with any pedal I've tried (Strymon, Chase Bliss). Have you run into this problem? Checking with Boss/Roland now to see if this is a known issue.
I don’t run it that way, I use a switch before it to turn the signal on and off to the SY. Feel free to join us on www.mcrocklin.com/discord if you get stuck.
Thanks for this! I have the SY1, and I have to agree with many others..this is what it should have been, to start with. Very nice Demo. Thanks! Also, what a killer guitar!

@@McRocklin ah I see.. so there is there a particular way to get that more full sound or do you think If I were to get the sy-200 it would have that super fast tracking like the examples you were showing? I appreciate the response :]

What expression pedal model is that? I scrolled through the comments but didn’t see it asked and didn’t see it in the description… sorry if it is and I missed it!
Great playing as usual, definitely a lot of possibilities for sonic inspiration in this effects pedal. I’m also curious about the signal chain. I like to create wet/dry/wet patches in my DAW by sending my “dry” signal (I use a Keeley Compressor plus on cleans and a rotation of drive pedals on some dirty, fuzzy or overdriven tones going into my audio interface). I split the signal coming in by arming 2 tracks on the DAW with the same input signal, then I apply effects to taste but always have the delay set to 100% wet on the second track. I would need to split the signal to get dry tone, can I do this with the Output and Send? I’ve always had multi effects and pedals in front of an amp so I’ve never tried Send/Return on any effect. Do both Send/Return need to be engaged for Send to deliver a signal? Actually that wouldn’t work either because I want one signal “clean”. I have a Radial Switchbone I was using to play through 2 amps in my rig so is that what you’re doing, splitting the signal so that you have a clean tone and a tone effected by the SY-200? Ugh, that’s definitely space consuming project but I love the way this sounds with a clean signal and “mix” options with particular effects never sound as good to me as wet/dry/wet with wet effects super pronounced.
Great demo man! I have a question. I use a 10 loop Midi looper (RJM PBC). If I plugged my guitar into the input of the SY, then had the send go to the input of my looper, run all my loops like I normally would, then have the output of the looper go back to the return, would I be able to maintain my normal guitar signal when the SY is bypassed? and then have everything run parallel when the SY is engaged? Thanks!
demo was straight magma!!! gj man. sy1 with memory banks is killer. tho i like the analog sounding knobs on the sy1 compared to the 200 series digital knobs, they're a bit quacky for real time, at least on my dd200 delay when scrolling the time parameter knob. if i had to pick between features it would be to have stored patches so w/e. plus lots of other new stuff. personally the midi is better for me too so i dont have to add an expression

@@tonyrapa-tonyrapa to my hears, I feel like not every tone in this pedal is created equal. For example I wouldn't touch the arpeggiator mode because it sounds too cookie cutter. I'm absolutely floored by how well this thing tracks! Awesome stuff, Thomas. I love using different sounds to inspire me to step out of my box and spark creativity too. Also, we need to reserve "Dirty Hammond" for something... I don't know what, but something.
Just amazing how technology has come cause before you had to buy a pickup and stick it by the bridge or buy a Roland guitar . Awesome stuff and these sounds are way sicker !
Sounds exactly the same as the SY-1 (which is great). Interestingly, the added features, while obviously useful and convenient, don't make it compelling enough for me to upgrade. If they had enhanced the sound with something new, I might have considered it. Boss kind of disappointed me this time.
Great video. Will look solidly at picking one up. Now I’m no video expert but it would be fantastic to hear this video without the sound of the (acoustic raking) electric strings. Seems to take away from the pure sound. Thanks. Great vid though.
Not interesting ! The most interesting is a string ensemble, violin, good organ, accordéon, mellotron, harmonica, 12 strings guitar, horns, acoustic guitar but not with this kind of not natural sounds I prefer my midi simulations about the synths, it can do the job but does it really sound like "Jump" ? not sure !
@@McRocklin no… 🙃 i know.. tuning stability and all.. but with locking tuners you get them strings stabilized as well.. i chose my 68 strat only because of the big beautiful head.. for me, a guitar (actually all string-type instruments) represents a body - without the head, it looks kinda dismembered to me.. 😱

@@tonyrapa-tonyrapa to my hears, I feel like not every tone in this pedal is created equal. For example I wouldn't touch the arpeggiator mode because it sounds too cookie cutter. If someone was playing like that in my band I'd have them get lessons.
But setting 11 (bass filter?) Sounds pretty sweet. Add in a healthy dose of reverb and delay to smooth it up more
I'm absolutely floored by how well this thing tracks! Awesome stuff, Thomas. I love using different sounds to inspire me to step out of my box and spark creativity too. Also, we need to reserve "Dirty Hammond" for something... I don't know what, but something.
Haha thanks Sean! Ye, I paused for a second when I said Dirty Hammond as I kinda liked that name 🤪
This is awesome!
Thank you! : )
For Sale. Boss SY-1
I just got this… this is an easier version of the Meris Enzo but waaaay more options.
15:38 Hammon-d Yellow Overdrive!
so in a real amp, do i plug it into the loops or in front of my amp?
You don’t really need an amp sim on it. So split it like me, or use the blend function. Or indeed a send/return. It’s pretty flexible 👍🏻
@@McRocklin you have to plug it in differently? Just just output?
I had to upgrade so it be more easy to match bpm
Great video. Is this stereo? TRS maybe?
Thanks, hmmmm I think it’s mono output but not 💯 sure.
F! There goes my saving. Goodbye old pedals that I just bought this year.
😬😬😬
Think that's good, try the SY-1000
😁
Hehe
I'd WAIT for the SY-300... you can be Sure they'll come up with one, and you'll be Pissed!
They already have one lol
@@mlewmisc LOL!! You're RIGHT!! (I Knew After I SED It!) WTF, U Know what I'M Say'n!!
Hello I'm Ray's bsf and I'm in her set I just wanted to say heloo👋👋
Just amazing how technology has come cause before you had to buy a pickup and stick it by the bridge or buy a Roland guitar . Awesome stuff and these sounds are way sicker !
Cheers Mike!
Like a BOSS. 🤜💥🤛
🤘🏻
beautiful kiesel mate
Hell ya ‼️ 🌟
Wow! Awesome pedal. Great review.
Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Yes.
Just put my pre order in! Can’t wait!
Honestly there's nobody that could of demoed this pedal better!
🏆🎸⚡🛸⚡
Wow cheers!
Sounds exactly the same as the SY-1 (which is great). Interestingly, the added features, while obviously useful and convenient, don't make it compelling enough for me to upgrade. If they had enhanced the sound with something new, I might have considered it. Boss kind of disappointed me this time.
They're CONSISTENT in that Regard, Should've Known Better Myself!! (I own the Gr-55!)
@@maliwilliams7262 gr55 is still my favorite gear to mix synth pads with guitar tones.
" that's the type of sound that i like to blend with a guitar tone"
Proceeds playing one of the greatest tone ever! No big deal. Lol
😆 Thank you! : )
Nice demo. There's a sweetwater demo and the guy basically makes it sound like a stylophone for the entire demo. XD
Lol nightmare.
Great video. Will look solidly at picking one up. Now I’m no video expert but it would be fantastic to hear this video without the sound of the (acoustic raking) electric strings. Seems to take away from the pure sound. Thanks. Great vid though.
it was going so well until you hit D# 😂 Seriously impressive pedal and as ever ... your mind bending skills 🤘
Haha tell me about it!
Excelente
👋🏻
Not interesting ! The most interesting is a string ensemble, violin, good organ, accordéon, mellotron, harmonica, 12 strings guitar, horns, acoustic guitar
but not with this kind of not natural sounds I prefer my midi simulations
about the synths, it can do the job but does it really sound like "Jump" ? not sure !
I know I'm in a minority but man I wish they put a GK socket on it.
would be like a 2021 version of the GR20
my favourite sound is the one called beengo bongo baingo
those headless guitars look like war victims 🥺
Ever played one?
@@McRocklin no… 🙃 i know.. tuning stability and all.. but with locking tuners you get them strings stabilized as well.. i chose my 68 strat only because of the big beautiful head.. for me, a guitar (actually all string-type instruments) represents a body - without the head, it looks kinda dismembered to me.. 😱
It all changes when you try one. Nothing wrong with a good strat though! 👍🏻👍🏻
After this pedal no one would buy overprized Boss EURUS guitar anymore.
We’ll see, I might get one ; )
McRocklin is the bees knees.
It doesn’t track fast. It doesn’t track at all, any more than a flanger or a chorus does. It is algorithms. Digital signal processing. Heavy maths.
I gave my boyfriend a dirty Hammond last night and he wasn’t pleased.
I can’t imagine why 🤪
RIP SY-1😆
That's a BOSS pedal.
