    Is there an even more basic video on this. Maybe disassembling a shock and talking about how each part functions would help explain it all better. Animations are helpful as well.

    I have a question about my specialized enduro comp 2020. I'm looking at swapping my rear shock from the select + to an ultimate but I can't find a shock that has the stanchion eyelid the right way. So can you just release the pressure and turn it?

  • @Mp57navy
    @Mp57navy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One thing with the negative air chamber. They can't produce more than a vacuum to counterbalance. So roughly 14.5 PSI.

    • @dylan-5287
      @dylan-5287 ปีที่แล้ว

      The negative chamber isn't under a vacuum, it's just opposing the positive chamber but they're both under positive pressure. You can customize the negative chamber in some forks and it's usually around 20-80psi. A vacuum would actually have the opposite effect and make it even more stiff, it would be like adding to the positive chamber.

    13:07 VVC doesnt preload the shims, it changes the mechanical advantage of the shim when pressing on the leaf spring

    • @clarkie005
      @clarkie005 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cato Hobsbawn oxymoron, you’ve explained the same thing in two different ways

    • @spuddo123
      @spuddo123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clarkie005 late reply, but actually that's incorrect. Preload increases the amount of force it takes for the spring to start moving, whereas vvc effectively changes the springrate, meaning the force graph will be steeper. If you know linear equations, it's essentially the difference between the y intercept (preload) and the gradient (springrate). Vvc changes the springrate, not preload.

    • @benasquith26
      @benasquith26 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can speak for them, they will say it’s a terrible idea, it can weaken your frame quite a lot. It will also void your warranty, I don’t think your bike being from 2012 will have it though. There are people who have done it but it’s advised not be done but you could try it if you want but doddy has said many times not to drill holes in your frame.

    • @lamefart

      Yeah, AIR. Can be Nitrogen or O2 vs what he said; coil. Check out 10:56 graphics showing Nitrogen...

    • @RyanAlexanderBloom
      @RyanAlexanderBloom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normal atmospheric air is 78% nitrogen and 20% oxygen. And the molecules of N2 are only 2.6% bigger than O2. So there’s not that much difference using N2 over air as only 1/5th of the air in air isn’t N2 and that 1/5th is only marginally different in terms of size and mass.

    Yo guys, question here:
    Yesterday I found out the set screw that keeps the rebound knob on my new fork (RS Pike) went missing. Probably wasn't tightened properly at the factory. Miraculously I didn't lose the rebound knob itself, so I pulled it off to make sure I don't lose it.
    Will I risk damaging my new fork if I ride without this knob in place? (until I get it fixed ofcourse) The hole where it plugs into is kind of exposed at the bottom.

Why not the opposite as 30% sag at the shock is far more on the wheel travel. Why don’t set the bikes up with a percentage of wheel travel rather than stroke length? #askgmbn @gmbntech

I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".
