Vermillion (red-orange) is a shade of *RED* and compared to other Crayola Crayons it is red, like Maximum Germanium Lake, Maximum Red, Scarlet, and oh wait this is the Orange-Red color, the one that I think could be called vermillion. Present day has Red-Orange as an Orange, similar to Orange. Because Orange-red is cooler, that color is a shade of RED

Red is a primary color. Yellow is a primary color. If your red has enough yellow in it that you can call it red orange or even debate whether it's red or orange than it's orange because that's too much yellow mixed in which is literally what orange is.
