The "every time they introduce a new character, they immediately introduce their rival" theory bit is so freaking funny when put in context of episode 5
It's astounding to me that this is Blake Roman's first real role. After they announced the cast I did some research, and Blake didn't even have an IMDB page. He was a complete nobody, and he stole the show for me. He also voiced the egg bois, so W.
He had his Broadway debut and first TV role so close together and in both he's been talked about as a standout, it's really impressive. I can't wait for more of him!
@@dropletq3477 right, he was in one broadway gig. I say real role because that didn't bring him any real fame. No imdb page, no interviews i could find. From what I've heard, he sent in an audition while most of the other cast was asked directly for an audition
Also Husk was giving Angel his whole life story because Angel thinks no one understands the loss of identity he had gone through. Husk is basically saying, “I literally lost all of the stuff I accumulated to a psychopath. Trust me when I say there are people in a similarly shitty place.”
They are both addicts. They both made bad deals. They both are under the heel of psychopaths. Making a connection and letting Angel feel understood is the big step to Angel getting less defensive about it, putting down his fake walls with the right people, and working to just accept the whole package.
Yeah, it's not him hijacking the conversation he's sharing a part of himself with Angel to show that he understands. It can be an enormous relief just to have someone who listens and who won't judge you or try to change you when you're already exhausted.
20:26 Theres this funny fan comic where Stolas, from Helluva Boss (who "loves words" and is "really good with contracts" according to himself) looks over Angel and Val's contract and says "This isn't legally binding. You both only signed with your first name! And Anthony signed with an illegal character! His name isn't *Heart Sign Anthony*, you know that right?"
@@-Some_Random_Chicken-. On the contract he signed "Anthony" Which is his real name. Angel is essentially his "screen name" which he has adopted to be the name he calls himself
Apparently, in the Italian dub, instead of Angel saying "Do you know how much I'm worth?" he says "Do you know how much I cost?" and that just breaks me inside a little.
Here’s the thing with Charlie that Husk nailed: She’s got a guilt complex mixed with a need of validation. She wants to help people, but she’s from a sheltered home life. Think if Marie Antoinette actually DID want to help the poor in France but had none of the social awareness early on
But Antoinette did want to help the poor. She did a lot of charitable works, like personally handing out food and money to poor families, opening hospitals, and founding charities to help unwed mothers. It was her husband who didn’t have a spine to and up to the other greedy aristocrats who kept convincing him to change his mind on doing anything to actually help the country. She cared a lot about the French people, it was the French court who didn’t like her because she wasn’t French so she couldn’t do anything.
@@GreebleClownthat’s what the original comment was saying. Charlie wants to help but isn’t really in touch with her people just like Marie Antoinette was
@@Jinju___ Nah that comment "if Marie Antoinette actually DID want to help..." insinuates that she absolutely did not want to do anything. Marie A. is an absolutely misunderstood character of history because all most people know about her is the "let them eat cake" which is also taken out of context. So @GreebleClown was right to say that
as an sa victim i love how they portrayed angels fear of val in episode 4. the room literally on fucking fire and yet angel is just focused on val... the biggest threat in the room.
"Would you rather be alone in the woods with a bear or a man?" Bear. 100%. At least the bear could be reasoned with. At least the bear would make it quick. At least the bear wouldn't lock me in its basement for 20 years.
The reason why Zestial, the tall spider guy sounds like he's from a Shakespearean play is because he is literally from the era of Shakespeare I wouldn't be surprised if Zestial, literally met Shakespeare when he was alive.
“I've only had Arlo for a day and a half, but if anything happened to him, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.” Best quotable line of her in B99
I'm an abuse survivor. The line in Poison that goes "I got so good at bein' untrue; I got so good at tellin' you what you wanna hear; I disassociate, disappear" hit me SO HARD.
This line is literally part of what I'll be talking to my therapist about tomorrow 😢 I swear Angel has enough lines that hit hard that my therapist will be hearing about it for months
Exactly love it. I’ve never been a victim of a human before I don’t think…. But I’m not telling just anyone what did happen. God told me to help that I’m not the only one and I’m ok. Humans want to linger in there pain but people are in hell as we speak. Human trafficking he said is bigger than ever so I’m trying hard to get over what happened to me. I only scream at night now. I’m thinking I need a camera to ya. I need to see myself at night. See this guy he walked into lol ok it sounds funny. A black shadow with a hat no eyes. He’d stand there and still stops by sometimes. and I think it’s why I scream at people and there lol shadows. But I meant I love how real this show is. I think also the devil only comes by when I talk to god and I assume like his said this happens to many. I’m happy I overreacted. I can make it leave. Oh also the internet doesn’t count as me telling actual people around me lol. it wove to odd. only god can help and he sits with me. I feel so loved when I can feel him in my home. But I’ve done wrong by getting depressed again. and he doesn’t baby us so
My headcannon is that the "yeah yeah yeah" in Poison is because angel is trying to reassure himself that eventually valentino wont want him anymore and he'll finally be free
@@alexanderwheeler3943That’s my hope for a future season. Some do gooder attorney who unalived themselves because being a do gooder attorney sucks comes to the hotel and takes a look at the contract.
We do know there will be a court thing going on in season 3 of helluva boss but yeahhhh doubt there’s a court for sinners for cases like these (even if Charlie is princess of hell)
I personally have a little fantasy about Stolas (and his love of paperwork) getting a look at Angel's contract and finding a loophole. Or, alternately, Ozzie adopting Angel and...getting rid of Val. I know, the shows can't really cross over, but....
As someone who was SA'd multiple times throughout 2020 - 2023, Poison was so emotionally wrenching that it was scary for me. The lyrics "I got so good at telling you what you wanna hear, I disassociate, disappear" and "I'm filling up my glass but its always hollow/I wish I had something to live for tomorrow" encompasses me so well. And it's frightening; not just how well it fits, but how so many people here can relate and had the same SA experiences, some for a longer time than I have. To anyone who's been SA'd or have some form of a-salt (I'm not gonna say the actual word), I promise you with everything I have that the trauma you have is not shameful. It's not something to bury and shove deep down. It's not something to succumb to, either. It's the product of something you (hopefully) never wanted. And it's a battle scar that needs to be tended to. You can't fix your own broken arm, after all. You go to the hospital because trained professionals help you there. And you cant heal in an instant. It takes time. But when the proper measures are taken and when a good amount of time is spent helping yourself, please know that things get better❤
It really shows how bad people's media literacy is when they say poison is sexualizing SA when it's almost straight up said in the song that Angel dissociates and romanticizes his life to deal with the intense trauma of it all😢 Hell he literally says it himself during the bar scene afterwards
It's the realistic discussion about coping mechanism and the toxic realities people live with. People want simple and straightforward without the sharp corners of reality
SA survivor and huge fan of Poison here. I was starting to think that people claiming that say Poison romanticizes/sexualizes SA either: a) Never been in this situation (and wish they never will) or b) expected Angel to have the classic victim stereotype (shy and afraid of s3x) instead of having toxic coping mechanisms, such as hypersexualization and drug/alcohol addiction.
@@Aravaris_Cosplaypoison itself is a good representation But the show as a whole really handles SA badly. It makes a joke of rape. Sir pentious got GANG RAPED and nobody bat an eye. But when the main character who is a porn star gets raped he gets attended to. It's fucking stupid. They're biased. If they want to handle touchy subjects like this then don't make a joke out of it
@@DontObliteratetheCommenter exactly. I see myself in Angel Dust a lot, especially on how he copes with the situation he's in, because I used the same coping mechanisms he used (not 100% as he did, but close, the main one for me was the hypersexualization) but I've managed to get out of the situation 4 years ago and I began my healing prosses 2 years ago. Now I'm well, with a partner that loves and cherises me for myself. I hope that Angel Dust will get his happy ending just like I did
'Loser Baby' was the moment I realized, "Oh, THAT'S why they changed Husker's voice!" And finding out Husker was an Overlord was one of the only moments where I paused, just dead stop and yelled "WHAT. WAIT, WHAT."
My favorite thing about episode 4 is that Husk consistently says he HATES fakeness and people not being real throughout the episode, which is why he butted heads with Angel. And when Angel lashes out in their fight, he tells him something about himself and opens up to him. Angel was real with him so Husk will be real with Angel. It also means a lot because Husk hasn’t participated in any sharing during Charlie’s exercises and keeps to himself. We don’t really know much about Husk prior to this moment. I’ve seen people criticize Husk for calling Angel a loser, but they’re missing the point. Husk hates fakeness so he doesn’t sugar coat Angels situation because he knows that wouldn’t help Angel feel better. What would make Angel feel better is having someone who is going through the same thing that can relate. Husk is in almost the EXACT same situation as Angel that’s why he wanted to tell Angel about himself
Exactly! What also always stood out to me is that Husk doesn’t try to “fix” Angel, which I think is how Charlie unintentionally comes across sometimes. He needed the space to be heard without someone trying to fix his problem or “redeem” him. Because while his hyper-sexuality is a front and a coping mechanism, it’s also a part of him people demonize(lol) and use to make him feel ashamed. Just having someone say: “Yeah that’s fucked up. Your life is a mess dude. But so is mine and I’m your friend” is what he really needed in that moment.
As someone who has faced SA episode four is my favorite and I love Husk’s interactions with Angel because it’s not that he wanted to vent about his own problems, it’s that he wanted to show Angel that he’s not alone in hell and there’s always other “losers”
If you notice, the musical number is angel dissociating from the traumatizing work day. What’s happening in the screens in the background is what’s ACTUALLY happening
I saw the cowriter of the songs for this show and he was talking about how the line “I’m that hashtag bíțch” has a double meaning. 1. The more obvious calling herself a “bíțch” as a compliment. 2. She’s “that hashtag bíțch” the one in control of all the hashtags, in control of the dialogue, in control of what is being talked about on all social media. Which I thought was super interesting!
Fun fact: You wondered why they would drop a music video like poison in the middle of a scene like that? It's because, like the lyrics said, that's when Angel started to disassociate from what was going on and just retreat inside his head. Thanks to his contract, he physically isn't capable of refusing Valentino's orders so Angel needed to escape the only way he could. It's also why the song its progressively better the longer it goes on. The scenes we see throughout the video represent the day Angel is having and throughout that time he is periodically having moments where he CAN'T shut out what is happening to him, leading to the more emotion bits in the middle of the song. We finally get to see and hear the mask come down at the end when the shoot is finally over and Angel no longer needs to shut out what is happening and comes back to himself. Unfortunately, by that point all he is left with is shame and self loathing.
I didn't think of it like that, I initially thought it was more of previous things that happened but him disassociating *while* those things were happening. Don't know why I didn't think of it like that before, considering the lyrics
This is a point I've seen a ton of people miss. "Why would he compare his gambling addiction to SA" like no the point just zoomed over your head - the point was he made a split-second decision that has forever changed the course of his life and he regrets it, but he can't do anything about it. In *that* regard, he and Angel are the same. He wasn't comparing, he was empathizing.
@@Shippou011yes thank you. a lot of people love to default to "uh, no, actually, you can't relate because x is MORE traumatic!" when the point is from husk's perspective there is a strong relation to his own struggle and he wanted to make that connection with angel. the obsession people have to hierarchize personal suffering so that nobody has it "bad enough" for their standards to "truly relate to them" is exactly why people like this feel lonely. accept some empathy like goddamn he's just trying to offer some needed perspective.
@@Shippou011yup, and in a way, they *are* in the same situation. Their souls are owned by demons who see them as disposable, and treat them as such. We see in episode five that Alastor has no problem with threatening Husk to keep him in line, just as Val is seen doing to Angel. The nature of the abuse may be different, but abuse is abuse.
When Valentino (moth guy) rants you can hear moth squeaking in his voicd. And when Vox (tv) needs to get his attention, he turns his screen brightness up.
To me, husk dumping his lore wasn’t being insensitive and wanting to talk ab himself. He’s relating his feeling trapped and guilt over it being “his decision” (even though he was backed into a corner, and likely angel was too) to Angel’s similar feelings. This episode is so important for both of their characters, and I love it
I understand how people could see it as him wanting to talk about himself until you recognise how little husk actually talks about himself and that this isn’t what he’s like
Yup. Angel refused to open up to Husk, and that's why Husk decided to share his story. He told Angel about his struggles and vulnerabilities, hoping that would make Angel feel more comfortable sharing his own.
if angel didn't stop charlie, val would've ended up crisper than burnt fries friendly reminder she could totally beat alastor up, she just doesn't want and chooses not to.
yeah i feel like the fact that Angel stopped her really speaks to the fact that a lot of abuse victims end up being manipulated into thinking their abuser is much stronger than they actually are. Charlie's the princess of Hell, and despite the fact that she doesn't like getting violent, she totally could've ended Val right then and there if she hadn't been stopped
@@broblerone413 It's not really that. Manipulating to create a sense of strength isn't as much of a factor compared to an abuser manipulating their victim into pushing away those who could help them. That's like manipulation step 1. He made angel do the attacking so he looked like the bad guy who hurt her feelings, which would typically push someone away if Charlie wasn't such a forgiving and friendly person.
I mean based on the fact that Alastor faired much better than Charlie against Adam (who was stated to be the same power level as Lilith) I think Alastor would actually stand a chance. But yeah Val would be dead
Fun fact: at the premiere shows there was a cocktail named “huskerdust” sooooo yes the creator ships them. In a healthy relationship. Husk waits to only touch Angel if he himself takes Husks hand. It’s very cute.
I read somewhere that Vivziepop asked her sister what angles boyfriend should be, and she drew husk. Not true if this is just a myth but it seems that they will go in that direction and I am here for it! 😊
I find that ship creepy, Husk is much older than Angel and even referred to him as “kid”. If Husk was younger I’d ship it, not a fan of huge age gaps even if both are adults. They suit better as platonic friends imo
@@Winskl9010 Husk died in 1970 at age 60-70, angel dust died in 1937 at mid 30s. Dunno how time passes in hell, but the age gap isn't that old if we look at birth years. Besides brain stops developing in mid-to-late 20s so even in real life it's fairly acceptable to have bigger age gaps after that point
I've heard a lot of people saying Husk hijacked the convo but as someone who also wont open up until the other person does it rly was a relatable moment that this song/conversation was what got Angel to do it to....
I love that Angel's voice changes when he gets super serious. Usually you her him putting on the flirty/feminine higher pitch but when he gets upset its a bit lower and slightly masculine. Its a neat little detail
You also hear the accent shift a bit, I feel like. His voice changes from New York and deliberately peppy to a bit flatter with more of the Italian coming out. Very nice touch on Blake Roman’s part
"Just don't hurt her..." Think about this for a moment. Charlie is literally the crown princess of Hell. Val is so far beneath her, she wouldn't even be aware of his existence were it not for her friendship with Angel. And of course, we see her later go toe-to-toe with Adam, a guy that has one-shot Overlords far more powerful than Val. Compared to Charlie, Val is little more than a moth, aimlessly fluttering round the light that is Angel Dust. And yet ... Angel's fear in that moment is not for his own safety, but for hers...
“Poison takes you down so Loser, Baby can bring you back up” was one of the best ways I’ve seen someone describe episode 4 and I couldn’t agree more. Even after the whole series it’s still my favorite episode with my favorite songs
Heard a theory that Val licking Charlie's arm was his attempt to mind control her. It's based on the fact that certain breeds of moths secrete chemicals as a defense against predators, but they changed it a bit to fit more with his controlling nature. Apparently it also explains how he got Angel to sell his soul in the first place because growing up in the mob would have prepared Angel against making deals that seem too good to be true.
but angel was getting away from the mob life and doing what he wanted, he legit thought val cared for him and then val manipulated him into a contract and showed his true color like in lyrics "spewing all your red hot lies"
Angel being from the mod life might have been why he only sold half of "time" not really realizing it was his soul and him able to safe guard at least the other half
i checked the wiki and mind control isn't one of valentino's powers, but he's supposed to be charismatic as hell when he wants to be..part of the song poison contains a line "red hot eyes, and red hot lies" i'm thinking val seduced angel, convinced him it was in his best interest to sign a contract for his soul for protection, love etc etc.... abusers like valentino have a sixth sense for who is vulnerable and how to get them to do what they want..and once the contract is signed the people val convinces have no choice but to obey or he can shatter their very souls
You have to remember, Viv originally had 22 episodes ready to be released on TH-cam, then they got the deal with Amazon and had to shove ALL of that in 8 episodes, so yes, this series is very fast, but it works
@Avianwriter I watch Cartoon Universe here on TH-cam mostly and a lot of other channels that are in connections with Viv's Twitter account/patreon where she will release information on the show itself as well as a deep dive into the characters she's created. She's gone on an interview recently about how the change from 22 episodes to 8 was a big project to take on. Originally, Hazbin Hotel was supposed to release here on TH-cam last Summer, they were also already working with Bento Box and A24 production team. However between that time Viv got the green light from Amazon Prime to launch there but in a smaller pilot series soft launch
this makes so much sense, i felt the show was really rushed(still amazing just felt rushed) and it’s good to see an explanation as to why that is. wish they could have gotten more episodes to span everything out more but still happy with what we got
I’m gonna disagree on it working - it REALLY could’ve done with those extra episodes. But I DO hope that maybe next season Amazon will let them slow burn stuff a bit more.
I think the video screens during the music video are trying to show how Angel is disassociating. Every time he looks at or touches Val the illusion breaks
Pay attention to Angel’s voice going forward. Once he drops his mask with Husk, he actually starts sounding more natural, instead of forced. It’s a very subtle change, but you hear it as he starts sounding more like Anthony and less like Angel Dust. These songs and this episode is one of my favorites for sure. Partly because I think they treated the darker subjects with respect.
Danny going from "Is this just them shipping Angel and Husk," to "I kinda ship them," R THE REALEST SENTENCES EVER OMG?? That's literally how I exactly felt 😭😭
Tbh I was already shipping it before the official show came out cause a fan comic convinced me 😅 (it's called Rescues and Revelations by jigokuhana if anyone is interested, there's a really good 3 part comic dub of it by paranoid dj) and then the more comics/fanart I saw of it the more I shipped it lol
Valentino being a moth is a sick little detail when you realize the tv is his main piece. And anytime the tv demon wants Valentino’s attention he brightens his screen bc moths are attracted to light
There's also a lot more connections with Ke$ha than you realize. One of Vivienne's first animated videos was an animation to Die Young and Ke$ha even voice acted in Helluva Boss as Beezlebub.
During loser baby, Husk never grabs Angel. He always reaches out his hand and its Angels decision to take it. Their relationship is based off of consent and authenticity. It’s one major reason I ship them as well as just love Husk and this song the most. Loser baby. For so many reasons. Is my favorite song.
Husk knows how to properly treat someone, and angel has never known that in his life, he’s always been just grabbed or taken, but for once, he has a chance to make his own choice to join in, if he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to
22:49 when he talked about the lyrics of poison sounding really terrible out of context, something clicked for me. It’s all porn dialogue. The “yeah yeah yeah” and “oooh” in the song sound amazing in context because it doubles as a song-writing and a storytelling technique. Even in Angel’s self expression and processing of his traumas, he still feels the need to embellish them and make them consumable. Poison is 100% the best scene in the entire show.
Wow what ?! I didn't even notice that, that's actually so interesting and clever, I was wondering too about the purpose of the yeah yeah yeah because at first, they seemed out of place but now I finally understand and that's so smart but sad for Angel :(
If you notice the last line of Poison is “I wish I had something to live for tomorrow” and then he finds out Husk knows that it’s like to be on a leash and Angel finds someone to live for.
Love that so many people were so worried he would completely read over the trigger warning that opens the actual episode 4 that they felt the need to additionally warn him
husk wasn’t “dying to talk about himself” in fact I think he would have preferred NOT talking about himself but he knows that angel needs someone that he feels like understands him and considering they both signed their souls over to someone in hell I’d say they have very similar plights which is why they work.
Yeah, personally, when someone is struggling with something, I try to show them that I understand their problems and can relate to them. Makes them more willing to listen.
I genuinely find this to be the hardest part of trying to relate to people. I'm on the spectrum, so comparison things are usually my go-to for trying to sympathize. Usually though people just assume I'm trying to make it about me when in reality all I am trying to do is let them know I may not fully understand, but I can empathize with the plight at hand.
Part of it seemed like Husk was trying to rebuild some rapport with Angel. Everything leading up to that point came off as Husk being judgmental and not safe to open up to, so that very personal disclosure of "we're in the same shit" was needed.
@@mollyfowles7863 It is Hell! People are there for a reason. Abuse, stealing, murder cannibalism, drugs, may i go on? There's going to be a lot of villains because THEY ARE IN HELL.
@@jakubgodyn7413 in my opinion I agree but statistically it has (last time I checked) most listens out of all the songs on all platforms, and has more positive comments in comment and review sections from observation. "A lot of her line delivery is like very stiff and awkward" This just made me realize that Vaggie is literally the straight man of this entire show. That's fucking amazing!

So true! She has some kind of special resonance that Alex Brightman and Borle have too, where it just hits the right gravely power and vibrates my brain just right
23:31 I could write essays about how insanely well written Angel is. His whole performance through "poison", the whole sharade he puts on to pretend like he's into it and is in control, is just chef's kiss. It's as if he performs in his head while the panels behind him portray what's actually happening to him, for example the "ooh-oooooooh" part, he belts it out on stage, and then the next shot is him screaming that same note, it's just brilliant storytelling.
I’m late but actor appreciation. Who else thinks that Blake Roman absolutely CRUSHED the dressing room scene? It blows my mind that he did that well. I almost feel like a lot of his stammering and stumbling over his words was ad libbed. But seriously, his acting is so good and it makes me cry every time.
I love how at the beginning he was like "oh damn is this gonna be a musical?" To every chapter saying "this is the best song" and next one "no THIS is the best song" and so on
The whole reason Husk put the conversation is so Angel knew he wasn’t alone. Recounting your own experiences and showing that you understand how someone feels is what separates empathy from sympathy. Husk is such an underrated legend in the fact he’s basically everyone’s therapist. We all need a Husk in our lives.
Spoilers so don't read until video is over: So did anyone else find it funny when he went "Is this just them shipping angel and husk?" To " omg I ship them now"
@@Cherry._.blossom._. I laughed. My boss allows me to watch videos as long as I continue to work. So I burst into laughter while making sandwiches at that part.

i know im late to the party but, the fact that the "love potions" that Valentino sells (on his billboards) are just cheap roofies is a GREAT touch and the fact that the demon of lust refuses to sell love potions .. just chef's kiss
This. It kinda sells the idea that the layer of hell where human souls can be found is _actually_ the worst one, because demons have lines they won't cross, and plenty of humans don't any such limitations.
@@c.b.- Especially since Sinners just respawn when they're killed in hell unless by an angel weapon. Natural demons ain't got that privilege outside of the Deadly Sins who don't seem to age.
the last 3 lines of poison... especially the last one. "Wish I had something to live for tomorrow" Has always suck hard and hurt... Being a parallel to the line about always living like there is no tomorrow... the next day will be the same for him essentially, and all that rolled together makes that single line hurt so much.
Fans are theorising that the scenes on the screen behind Angel are what's actually happening while Angel dancing is them disassociating. And when Val grabs him, the illusion breaks and they're back in reality
“Do people ship Angel and Husk, is that why this is happening?” To “Damn it, now I ship them!” is basically a universal experience 😭😭 like I was minding my own business and those two just completely stole my heart
Eh, I don't really ship it at all. And I don't care if they're gonna become canon, I'm still not gonna ship them. Other people can, I just won't. I prefer RadioDust and whatnot. :P.
Few things i wanted to point out on Poison The poses you mentioned where angel is dancing in the second chorus, the poses that flash up on the screen behind him. That's angel dissasociating which is why the poses are in the bdsm gear. So, those are the things actually happening to him while he's mentally checked out Also, a main thing you learn about angel is the hypersexuality is a way to maintain some semblance of control. If they're doing this to you, you being into it is a defense mechanism. My favorite example of this is during the first chorus when angel is dancing with val. He gets pulled to the ground and we see the distress and pain on his face for just a moment before he smiles and pretends like he loves it before playfully getting back up. It's an incredible song and a great demonstration of how some SA victims respond to the trauma they've survived
For people who feel like others can't possibly understand, knowing that someone else also went through hell can be comforting. I think Husk was trying to be empathic, and Angel Dust got that.
THANK YOU! I came here to say this... & throughout the series, her growth as a character works to improve how she approaches her relationship with Vaggie. They're an adorable couple & truly do love each other, with chemistry that fills each others' voids. But they are "flawed... who down here isn't!?" & as such, like all relationships, they have to work around their obstacles.
Angel Dust deserves so much better than this. The way Valentino treats him and what Angel said about trying to get broken enough that Val will let him go, it's really painful to watch. I'm glad he and Husk have found common ground and can support eachother. And I love the message in "Loser, Baby." It's not your usual, "cheer up, things will get better" song. It's more realistic. Yeah, Angel's life is screwed up, but he's not alone. He now has someone who understands that he can look to for support. That's as good a start as any.
@@Luisvitoras Maybe you could chill bro. It's a show, and they're just talking about how good the representation is. Nothing wrong with liking a show from being good, real of not.

I haven’t see a whole lot of this show, other than the pilot, but from what I’ve gathered, Charlie is the living embodiment of “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”
26:50 there's a therapist that when through angel trama and she said that husk sharing his trama is actually good there she said it helps angel know he knows how he feels
Theres a theory that when angel is dancing thats him dissociating and whats appearing on the screen is whats actually happening to him plus theres a lyric that says "i disassociate, disappear"
One of the saddest thing is that in the italian version Angel doesn't say: "Do you know how much I am worth" He says "Do you know how much I COST" Which is a lot sadder in my opinion, especially considering Angel is canonically italian
well too me the "Do you know how much I am worth" hits harder cause too angel there's too answers how much he's worth in money and how much he thinks he's worth which is nothing it's a double meaning showing that he thinks he's worth nothing but his body is worth something
25:31 i think vaggie sent husk after angel more so because husk’s the reason angel stormed off, and charlie prob would have but charlie was still recovering from what happened earlier in the ep
Fun fact: the song poison is angel dust dissociating from what's happening to him, but everything you see is really occurring to him. Also the end of the song is Anthony basically crying out for help. Because Anthony has to put on an act as angel dust to keep himself safe. Also second fun fact: the reason he has one black eye is because Val only owns half of him, his soul, only when he's in the studio does he have power over him. Husk has two black eyes because Alastor owns his entire soul.
I just realized that the studio is why Val was pissed off that Angel moved into the hotel. He only has control of Angel in the studio, so when Angel moved out he lost a massive amount of control without breaking the contract.
2:47 what's funny about this rant is that Camilla is voiced by Daphne Rubin-Vega, who is in fact a Tony Award-nominated Broadway actress (among many other things)
some little things people have noticed in episode four is: angel dust is more scared of val then he is of the fire, angel when val approached covered himself up think val was reaching for his chest, husk waits for angel to grab his hand which i find very sweet. also the goth woman overlord is called rosie and she's friends with alastor :D
16:19 unfortunately, we are in an era of media production that doesn’t allow for filler episodes like that. Which is a shame, because I would really like to see a Nifty episode too.

I can't wait for more of him!
yeah no this isnt. he was a broadway actor and this is his first voice actor role however.
@@dropletq3477 right, he was in one broadway gig. I say real role because that didn't bring him any real fame. No imdb page, no interviews i could find. From what I've heard, he sent in an audition while most of the other cast was asked directly for an audition

@@laurelleaves yeah, that's actually fair. Charlie's VA and others have it listed, so I just assumed they include broadway roles in it. My bad.
Also Husk was giving Angel his whole life story because Angel thinks no one understands the loss of identity he had gone through. Husk is basically saying, “I literally lost all of the stuff I accumulated to a psychopath. Trust me when I say there are people in a similarly shitty place.”
Husk is literally a husk of his former self - Alastor took his *name.*
It’s also how a lot of neurodivergent people talk. We say our side of things because we’re showing we can relate in our own way.

"This isn't legally binding. You both only signed with your first name! And Anthony signed with an illegal character! His name isn't *Heart Sign Anthony*, you know that right?"

Here’s the thing with Charlie that Husk nailed:
She’s got a guilt complex mixed with a need of validation. She wants to help people, but she’s from a sheltered home life. Think if Marie Antoinette actually DID want to help the poor in France but had none of the social awareness early on
Yeah that’s her to a T

@@Aravaris_Cosplaypoison itself is a good representation

Now I'm well, with a partner that loves and cherises me for myself. I hope that Angel Dust will get his happy ending just like I did
'Loser Baby' was the moment I realized, "Oh, THAT'S why they changed Husker's voice!"
And finding out Husker was an Overlord was one of the only moments where I paused, just dead stop and yelled "WHAT. WAIT, WHAT."
Fun fact: his name is Husk, only Alastor calls him Husker.
Husk is in almost the EXACT same situation as Angel that’s why he wanted to tell Angel about himself
the irony of a gambler hating people putting up a front
As someone who also faced SA and is a therapist friend I completely agree❤ Hope you're doing Better now

OOooOo! That is SO clever!
Yes. They can also show more of what's happening through a montage than if they tried to write dialog for the entire night.
I didn't think of it like that, I initially thought it was more of previous things that happened but him disassociating *while* those things were happening. Don't know why I didn't think of it like that before, considering the lyrics
Husks main point was to show Angel that he’s not as alone as he thinks. That there are other “losers” out there , people he can relate to
This is a point I've seen a ton of people miss.

@@Shippou011yup, and in a way, they *are* in the same situation. Their souls are owned by demons who see them as disposable, and treat them as such. Lol not the screen brightnes 💀
I love how at the beginning he was like “Uhg another villan (to Camila)” and then when she actually showed up he fell in love with her character
To me, husk dumping his lore wasn’t being insensitive and wanting to talk ab himself. He’s relating his feeling trapped and guilt over it being “his decision” (even though he was backed into a corner, and likely angel was too) to Angel’s similar feelings. This episode is so important for both of their characters, and I love it
Yeah fr
He was also relating his situation, having sold his soul to a demon, to angels, having sold his soul to a demon.
I understand how people could see it as him wanting to talk about himself until you recognise how little husk actually talks about himself and that this isn’t what he’s like
Yup. Angel refused to open up to Husk, and that's why Husk decided to share his story. He told Angel about his struggles and vulnerabilities, hoping that would make Angel feel more comfortable sharing his own.

friendly reminder she could totally beat alastor up, she just doesn't want and chooses not to.
"But that's so meannnnnn"
yeah i feel like the fact that Angel stopped her really speaks to the fact that a lot of abuse victims end up being manipulated into thinking their abuser is much stronger than they actually are. Charlie's the princess of Hell, and despite the fact that she doesn't like getting violent, she totally could've ended Val right then and there if she hadn't been stopped
@@broblerone413 exactly
@@broblerone413 It's not really that. Manipulating to create a sense of strength isn't as much of a factor compared to an abuser manipulating their victim into pushing away those who could help them. That's like manipulation step 1. He made angel do the attacking so he looked like the bad guy who hurt her feelings, which would typically push someone away if Charlie wasn't such a forgiving and friendly person.

@coreymason7017 it is a slow burn relationship i heard somewhere that it is a canon ship that will be built up over time
I find that ship creepy, Husk is much older than Angel and even referred to him as “kid”.

Think about this for a moment. Charlie is literally the crown princess of Hell. Val is so far beneath her, she wouldn't even be aware of his existence were it not for her friendship with Angel. And of course, we see her later go toe-to-toe with Adam, a guy that has one-shot Overlords far more powerful than Val. Compared to Charlie, Val is little more than a moth, aimlessly fluttering round the light that is Angel Dust.

was one of the best ways I’ve seen someone describe episode 4 and I couldn’t agree more.

Husk knows how to properly treat someone, and angel has never known that in his life, he’s always been just grabbed or taken, but for once, he has a chance to make his own choice to join in, if he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to
I just started sobbing. I never even registered that. I had my own Val and I had my own Husky. it's so sweet they showed this
Omg you're right! If only the show had had more time so they could have made it a slow burn, it'd be one of my top ships of all times.
@@Anonymous__S it actually is gonna be a slow burn ship from what I’ve heard, since it is getting more seasons after all
AFAIK they are a canon couple
I love the little detail during the song Looser how Husk only hold’s and leads the dance with Angel’s hands rather than touching his body.
Wow what ?! I didn't even notice that, that's actually so interesting and clever, I was wondering too about the purpose of the yeah yeah yeah because at first, they seemed out of place but now I finally understand and that's so smart but sad for Angel :(
“There’s no chance it’s any better then Poison right?”
Famous last words LOSER BABY IS ON TOP

Loser baby is one of the top but to me hell is forever reprise

I almost feel like a lot of his stammering and stumbling over his words was ad libbed. But seriously, his acting is so good and it makes me cry every time.
The line from episode 1 ”this body was made to be exploited” hits so hard after having watched episode 4
You know Val has told him that so many times until he believes it. It's heartbreaking and after a rewatch it made me cry.
It breaks my heart that angel's 'dancing' his pain into the catacombs of his mind, WHILE its happening

i know im late to the party but, the fact that the "love potions" that Valentino sells (on his billboards) are just cheap roofies is a GREAT touch and the fact that the demon of lust refuses to sell love potions .. just chef's kiss

Few things i wanted to point out on Poison
The poses you mentioned where angel is dancing in the second chorus, the poses that flash up on the screen behind him. That's angel dissasociating which is why the poses are in the bdsm gear. So, those are the things actually happening to him while he's mentally checked out
Also, a main thing you learn about angel is the hypersexuality is a way to maintain some semblance of control.
“Oh wait maybe I do ship them”
That’s exactly how it was for me. I didn’t see it until Loser, Baby and I had a new otp
FRRR-
It’s not Charlie gaslighting her, it’s her own guilt and self esteem issues. She’s cooking her own self.

Yeah, Georgia Dowe, love that video

Theres a theory that when angel is dancing thats him dissociating and whats appearing on the screen is whats actually happening to him plus theres a lyric that says "i disassociate, disappear"
Wait until he learns Kesha is part of the Hazbin Hotel universe
thought the same thing, lol. like, this whole thing started as an AMV to a Kesha song
One of the saddest thing is that in the italian version Angel doesn't say:
"Do you know how much I am worth"
He says
"Do you know how much I COST"
Which is a lot sadder in my opinion, especially considering Angel is canonically italian
...
well too me the "Do you know how much I am worth" hits harder cause too angel there's too answers how much he's worth in money and how much he thinks he's worth which is nothing it's a double meaning showing that he thinks he's worth nothing but his body is worth something
Val being a *moth* means that every episode after I'm just hoping that Nifty ends up in the room with him while armed with something extremely sharp.
Not sure if that’s canon but cool observation!
I just realized that the studio is why Val was pissed off that Angel moved into the hotel. He only has control of Angel in the studio, so when Angel moved out he lost a massive amount of control without breaking the contract.
Neither of these facts are particularly "fun" ngl
@@yvainestelmack7196 it's a show.

In an absolute banger of an episode, one line stands out as my favorite of all time:
"THEY'RE FUCKIN SINGING!?"
"Charlie and Vaggie needs an episode"
Well, good news, pretty much every episode from now on is exactly that
As someone who has dealt with s/a im extremely sensitive to the topic, but angel dust is such a good example of s/a and the affects of it
16:19 unfortunately, we are in an era of media production that doesn’t allow for filler episodes like that. Which is a shame, because I would really like to see a Nifty episode too.
