- On one of my visits to my country (ARGENTINA) I had the pleasure of personally meeting Silvio @silviodilje , since we both have a railcart and we are Railfans!! He invited me to tour the 7 bridges of Paso Mayor, which is located in the south of the province of Buenos Aires, about 50 km away from the city of Punta Alta BS.AS. Argentina where Silvio is a resident. The bridges are named after him because they are divided into seven sections, six of a type structure (cage) and one (open), it is located in the Paso Mayor of the Sauce Grande River near the place of the same name. Its construction ended in 1908 and it is part of the Rosario Puerto Belgrano railway, which crosses from north to south the south of the province of Santa Fe and the entire west of the province of Buenos Aires, discarding the radial model towards the city of Buenos Aires which had all the British railways.
It was used by a railway for the last time in 1977 when the southern section of that railway branch was permanently closed. I want to thank him eternally for inviting me to cross the bridges, travel with his railcart and tell me part of the history of this forgotten railway that had its golden age in its time. (en español)En una de mis visitas a mi pais (ARGENTINA) tuve el agrado de conocer personalmente a Silvio Dilje @silviodilje , ya que los dos tenemos un railcart y somos Railfans !! me invito a recorrer los 7 puentes de Paso Mayor , que se encuentra en el sur de la provincia de Buenos Aires a unos 50 km de distacia de la ciudad de Punta Alta BS.AS. Argentina donde es residente Silvio . Los puentes Recibe su nombre porque estan dividido en siete secciones, seis de una estructura tipo (jaula) y una (abierta), esta ubicado en el Paso Mayor del Río Sauce Grande cerca del paraje homónimo. Su construcción finalizó en el año 1908 y es parte del ferrocarril Rosario puerto belgrano, el mismo cruza de norte a sur el sur de la provincia de santa fe y todo el oeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires, descartando el modelo radial hacia la ciudad de Buenos Aires que tenían todos los ferrocarriles británicos.
Fue utilizado por un ferrocarril por última vez en el año 1977 cuando sección sur de ese ramal ferroviario fue clausurado definitivamente. quiero agradecerle eternamente por invitarme a cruzar los puentes , recorrer con su railcart y contarme parte de la historia de este ferrocarril olvidado que tuvo su epoca dorada en su tiempo . les dejo el link de su canal de TH-cam @silviodilje para que se suscriban y le den likes por su trabajo duro en las vias . un verdadero Railfan

Reason why the railways in Argentina survive so well is they were built by the British hence why there are huge enclaves of Irish, Welsh and Scots living in Argentina today as many of the navvies opted to stay there once the road and railway building was done.
I am sure lots of hard work by very poor people was involved. Many may have lost their lives for the glory of others ideas.

Soy argentino (nacido en Puerto Belgrano) y vivo en Florida, USA, desde hace 20 años. Tuve una zorra en Tandil, recuperada tambien de la chatarra, que restauramos a nuevo con mi hijo. La usamos en muchas vías de la zona con el sistema original de palancas basculantes y finalmente la donamos al Museo de Tandil donde está ahora en exhibición. Incluso nos pusieron alambrados (ocupas de las estaciones) como cuenta Silvio para entorpecer el paso. Nos quedamos con ganas de agregarle un motorcito para recorrer mayores distancias. Nos faltó también la bocina!
Hay una zona espectacular en Argentina que estuvimos evaluando para hacerla en zorra que es el cruce de Mendoza a Chile. Hay montones de tramos bien preservados en un paisaje incredible. Otro proyecto aún no concretado...!

Falcons are great old cars. Easy to keep running. I've been driving a '65 for 42 years now in Florida USA. Now has well over 500.000 miles on it!
Archie, that was GREAT! Silvio, it is an honor to have met you! She is beautiful (the #657) and I used to have a Ford Falcon like yours, it brought back a lot of memories. I also want to thank both of your wifes for supporting both of you with their love and care for both of you. I could go on and on but I will leave you with this, there is something special about you recording abandoned railroad tracks for us and future generations, thank you so very, very much! Me gustó, me encantó la aventura, gracias por compartir el video. El reto que tiene el ser humano de luchar contra la adversidad solo por el simple hecho de demostrar que todo es posible de realizar cuando uno tiene la voluntad y el valor de lograr lo imposible. Además el paisaje y la tranquilidad de disfrutar del campo. Mi admiracion por la genialidad y habilidad para adaptar las máquinas a voluntad y deseo de acuerdo a las necesidades o solo por el placer infinito del reto de realizar un emprendimiento. de alguna forma se podría rehabilitar mas la vía adaptándole una especie de azada y/o arador mecanico (algo asi como tienen los motocultures agrícolas) fijado y soldado al carruaje y que vaya al ras del suelo y la riel delante de las ruedas metálicas, de tal forma que a medida que avanza va limpiando la tierra, obstáculos y malesa ahorrando el tedioso esfuezo de hacerlo a mano con la pala. Además de darle a la via un uso más práctico y de provecho en la agricultura para todos los pobladores del lugar. Muchos éxitos en sus proyectos y planes a futuro. The frame and wheels of the railcar were made by Fairmont Railway Motors for inspection trips. I have a very similar car with the original 2-cycle engine.

We have one but a little bigger made by Ferrocar which was a factory who copied those Fairmont models, for Argentinian railways of course.

Espectacular trayecto, una pena que de ese campo aledaño, hayan cerrado el paso, ya que hasta donde sé la tierra de los rieles, ó es de la empresa ferroviaria, ó del estado nacional, provincial, ó del municipal según lops casos.

É uma judiação que todo o sistema de ferrovias na América do Sul foi sucateado e destruído nos últimos 50 anos. Graças ao loby do petróleo os governos deram preferência a investir em rodovias, deixando as ferrovias se deteriorarem. Uma pena isso.
Tremendo! Quiero hacerte una recomendación para que no sufras tu gran labor. Limpiando todo a mano es una locura... podes ayudarte con herbicidas especificos para ese uso, de la familia de las imidazolinonas. Son de amplio espectro y tienen una residualidad enorme (quedan haciendo efecto muchos meses). Es lo que usan en ferroexpreso para mantener las vías, una vez al año pasan el equipo adosado a alguna locomotora y siempre mantienen limpia la via.
