  • Jason Hickel is an economic anthropologist, Fulbright Scholar, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is originally from Swaziland and spent a number of years living with migrant workers in South Africa, studying patterns of exploitation and political resistance in the wake of apartheid. He has authored three books, including most recently The Divide: A Brief Guide to Global Inequality and its Solutions. He writes regularly for the Guardian, Al Jazeera and Foreign Policy, serves as an advisor for the Green New Deal for Europe, and sits on the Lancet Commission for Reparations and Redistributive Justice. He lives in London.

    Our obsession with traditional GDP growth and consumer consumption is costing us the Earth.

    Excellent book (Less is More) just started reading it, the chapter on the rise of capitalism was a real eye-opener to me. Thank you.

    This talk and book are very well reasoned and researched. I agree with the findings but fear countries like the UK just wont move fast enough, i am really worried about what my children's lives will look like in the coming years.

      He is demanding "un seating" of officials that push for continuous GDP growth. He is a part of many social movements that resist capitalism and its expansion. So, he is not a collaborating academic.
