the memphis sound comes from Curry’s early days in a rap group called Raider Klan with SGP and other young florida artists. Which was heavily influnced from those Memphis days with the production and gritty mixed vocals. they used to collab with Asap Mob heavily during those early blog era days as well.
I think they (specifically SGP) might’ve even kicked off the heavy use of the Memphis sound outside of the city we see now. At the very least the chain reaction from their influence in Florida & their work with ASAP Rocky is a big part of it
I introduced Raider Klan to a bunch of younger folks back in the day and a few months later they formed a rap duo called Dark Mafia and started rappin bout lean hahaha
Lunatic interlude is my favorite beat. That sample will never get old to me. And the song psychopathic lunatic is one of my favorites. I think that song might have introduced me to kingpin skinny pimp if im not mistaken. I was on limewire looking for all the underground stuff associated with 3-6 aha
This some quality music from Denzel, maybe I jsut like his mroe introspective albums but he so versatile, Denzel proves he deserves flowers everytime he drops. Ken and B ain’t hating at all, their opinions are valid and I feel what they mean.
B questioning “why he’s doing this sound?” Just because he’s from Florida is such a weak criticism. I feel like all that should matter is was it executed well? And the answer is yes for sure
Bro said “if I wanna hear Memphis I put on three 6 or project pat”… so by that logic, no one should release music that represents any certain sound lol
@@jonjup8600I just think about how Colombians started the cumbia genre with Black/African folks leading the charge, but it blew up qll over Latin America and kinda became a genre for a lot of darker-skinned folks to connect with their roots across the continent since the Spanish took away their culture. Like local community culture is great but to see that crossover and say fuck these state borders made by the fuckin colonizer - like that shit is powerful. And we know Denzel been about that with him standing up for Palestinians too
Denzel been on that Memphis sound since he came out in the raider klan days. The whole raider klan was paying homage to Memphis they were heavily influenced by 3 6
He had juicy j on the remix of ultimate on 32zel. Denzel been influenced by Memphis. This project is front to end bangers. After his last body of work we needed this. I wish Kendrick would drop an album full of bangers in between his deeper works
I feel you guys on not being too blown away because of how much it borrows from Mystic Stylez and other Memphis Rap, but I feel Zel does so much with his whole character and implementation of cloud rap sounds and vibes that it makes it worth revisiting over those. Plus the whole posse aesthetic of Southern veterans and newcomers as well as other friends too is a refreshing homage but ambitious undertaking by Zel in terms of artistry and curation. HUGE love letter Definitely my favorite of his "in-between" projects. Kenny Mason just keeps bodying his features too.
He's talking about the 5 really short cuts that are like intro, outro and transitional pieces. They trippin though cause they add so much i feel and aren't long
Nah the problem is that 3 outta the 10 new songs that we got were singles. With 5 out of the 15 tracks being skits kinda takes a little away from the new listening experience.
I love this album. 100% my AOTY so far. Amazing beats, flows. This album gave me strong Three 6 Mafia vibes. Denzel Curry is one of my favourite artists. Amazing discography and each album is so different.
You guys should check the mixtape this is a sequel of. It was a very SoundCloud sound. So much Memphis and three six influence. Also chopped and screwed influence. This album was much lighter and more refined than that one. But still held up for the series. I love this one much more.
Beezy has become the oldest head of the group. Start letting ur young guys join the discussion though pleaseeeee, we need a voice that fully understands the here and now as a member of it.
Denzel curry is one of the greatest rappers of all time: consistency + evolution, lyrics + hooks, concept + execution, style + skill, etc. Quality across the board.
Nobody was saying it was a bad thing just that if they want that sound they prefer to go to artists who already do it consistently which I get. Certain tracks on here did make me want to go put on Duke Duece, Three Six, Dolph etc. instead of just sticking with the project itself so it’s a fair critique imo
So I haven't heard the album yet right? Based on the review and the tracks I've seen used on IG ppl are fucking with this, especially the one with 2chainz. The fact that everyone liked it for the most part is a positive. I like Zuu but don't love it so it might turn into that for me but Denzel I said in a live as a grown artistically the most like a Andre 3000. The man is hungry and still able to provide new flows and try new styles and execute them well. If u ask me I fuck with duke deuce heavy but he hasn't crafted an album front to back flawless. Denzel has for me
I know Feeftron gets handed some jokes quite often, however, guy has been killing it lately. He has gotten so well at moderating and articulating different perspectives. Shoutout to Feefo. And Ken too. That man is a stone age computer - he has a diverse palette proving ageism to be laughable.
Honestly. Denzel didn't missed yet. He got only great music and features out till now. He's underrated af. If we talkin top 5 in this current time right now. He's number one!
They did mention it though lol I want to say Rod and B brought it up specifically after the grading portion when FeeFo asked where did this one rank for them when it comes his other albums
Appreciate the honesty Beezy and Ken. It’s alright to enjoy this but its a little underwhelming. He has way better projects. Did get some songs and the production was really good. The rapping i wasn’t feeling and i liked the features more than him honestly. I applaud the different sounds he’s incorporating to his music. One of the younger generation top rappers.
As in he didn’t do a full rollout for the project the same way he did others in the past. He kinda did the basic stuff with the videos and then performing the singles on Rap Radar but outside of that he didn’t do a lot of promotion for it. Like when MMESYF was dropping he was everywhere with the videos, graphics, interviews etc. same with ZUU and TA1B00. I think he just wanted to do something fun as an ode to his Raider Clan days with this though so its more so for his core fans versus him trying to get new people to check for him off of this.
Prob close to the bottom of his catalog for me. Not enough curry on here imo, didn't care for some of the features either. Makes me want a real solo album now.
I thought this album was mid at best and maybe because I'm not keen to Memphis rap but I thought the beats were bland and unoriginal and Denzel was boring on here. One of his worst albums in his catalog.

Correct 💯
Yep. I don’t think DEHH was aware of Raider Klan back then, though
Lately Feefo has been stepping up on these reviews and he’s been cookin. DEHH always making great content!
i think positively everyone involved in the DEHH and all the shows around it have gotten better on mic with time
True you can tell Feefo is passionate
@@AndersOHMobergdehh is the most wholesome channel especially the lives
Easily one of the best of the year so far, this album was so much fun barley any skips
This reminded me of the Raider Klan days just not as dark tho but I loved to hear Curry do that sound again but more polished
Denzel has an incredible ear and it gives him the ability to explore so many avenues of hip-hops "sounds". His versatility is remarkable.
The album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Heavy replay value! Denzel flowed his ass off! Great project!
I was hooping with some earbuds and black flag freestyle had me floatinggg
Beezy carrying the ghost of Myke on his shoulders 😂
People forget Raider klan was doing this memphis sound before everyone else hopped on the bandwagon and Denzel was a big part of that
it DEFINITELY bumps in the whip
Damn not them forgetting about Nostalgia 64 and the Lil Ugly Mane features. Mans has been on memphis rap since the inception of his career.
that whole raider klan movement and ASAP mob was straight up three 6 mafia influenced. this aint new for Denzel
Memphis rap in general. But yea alot of 3-6 samples were used.
Being a North Memphis veteran, this album has been on repeat. My favorite songs are: Ultra Shit, Gs Up, and Sked are my junts
I love how you guys are including the grading in your regular reviews now.

That Maxo Kream collab was the shit. I feel Feefo on G'Z Up. I woulda put Duke Deuce or Big Moochie on that and Mike Dimes on Set it
Ken and B hating
They not hating they just not the biggest Zel fans. They said mostly good things about the project they just didn't love it is all.

I'm from memphis. This was a 1000% memphis album. I loved this. Also, standout verse, Mexican OT on Black Flag Freestyle. Goodness gracious!
Crazy, normally I'm inline with Ken and Beezy. But today it's Rod and Feefo, wild.
Black flag freestyle is a phenomenal song. Loved the album from beginning to end.
Y'all out the loop
Beezy has become the oldest head of the group. Start letting ur young guys join the discussion though pleaseeeee, we need a voice that fully understands the here and now as a member of it.
Riiiiiiighhhhhhhtttt, no disrespect to Beezy tho. Because I respect his opinion the most out of the group. But this album is clearly the summer jam.
I think his take is coming from the fact they aren’t familiar with Denzel’s raider klan days. He started with memphis sounding shit
Yeah they could really use some younger voices
Bump this one everyday! Great album
I'm digging this project. Sked and Wishlist are my jams. Bumps in the whip and for workouts. B/B+

Denzel does small projects in-between the bigger projects from time to time
I gotta go back and see if they reviewed Melt My Eyez because they are talking about every album except that one lol. Did it miss them?
They did review that album
They did mention it though lol I want to say Rod and B brought it up specifically after the grading portion when FeeFo asked where did this one rank for them when it comes his other albums
This was a good album, just didnt get hit with any 'wow' factor or originality. A- to b+ is accurate.
Any chance you guys can review the new Blu & Evidence album?
I’m waiting on that too because they already talked highly bout Royale Blu
That and Navy Blues new joint
Why complain about the sound because the artist isn't from there? Grade the work.
Mike Dimes had the best verse on that song frfr
