@@rickbates5925 Saw Slade for the first time at Glasgow Apollo 1973. Sensational Alex Harvey Band were the support act. I was hooked on SAHB ever since.
Christmas in England wouldn't be Christmas with this wonderful song, which I've no doubt will be sung by the people of the UK for ever, come Christmas time. Thanks Jim. Merry Christmas, health and happiness to ya.
Wow. I wasn't expecting that. I knew Jim was a significant creative force in the songwriting department at Slade towers but what a truly lovely voice. And a very tidy guitar arrangement to boot. Really rather moving.
No matter how many times I’ve heard this in my life I can never feel irritated by it. Too many happy memories for me to ever dislike it. This version is beautiful. It’s how imagine it might have sounded when it was it was first written. Thanks, Jim Lea and thanks Slade ✌️❤️
Jim Lea is my abosolute favourite. So Thank You 👍💪 Jim please cum on making new versions and new songs. You and these songs make everyday so much better in the world we are living 💗
I grew up in Bilston, west midlands. The first sound i ever heard from Slade was as a schoolboy passing a large wooden hut on the way to my school. I thought it was a rowdy party, but i learned much later that it was Slade practicing. So you could say I heard them live, but didnt see them. It seems after then that they were in the charts in an instant, and i never stumbled on them again, but ive always never forgotten. It was around 1971. I also liked Sweet along the way, but to me Slade had the edge, And they were local. Fantastic.
@MuddyBootz yes they did., its still there. I pass it about once a week or so when I visit the town and I often think about it. I lived in Coseley at the time, and the hut was an old scout hut in Roseville, on a patch of land in Bayer Street as I walked to Coseley school. It was demolished in 1980 and there are houses there now. For a time, Dave was often seen locally too.
The original is definitely Xmas in a tin. But this version is beautiful. A version that stops you in your tracks and makes you listen and appreciate its effortless beauty. This version is now one of my favourite Xmas songs ever. Well done Jim simply amazing. Thank you.
So sad that many have come to almost resent this absolute definitive epitome of what Christmas is about. Don't forget, until recently, Slade were the first band that many heard just gone midnight on the first day of the new year as well as giving us this Christmas classic. Thank you guys, you rock!
Jim is a brilliant musician he has to be one of the best bass players out there and that is just one his instruments lol, that was number one the year before i got married
Jim Lea has always been in my top three bass players list. Good company when you consider two of the others are John Entwistle and Chris Squire. JIm was just so melodic. It's great to hear him here mastering a six-string too. Great voice. What a guy.
Reading Festival 1980... Slade were a last minute replacement for Ozzy Osbourne's "Blizzard of Oz" and many people seemed to believe that they'd get boo-ed off / canned off. They came on as one of the last acts on Sunday evening, they played an absolutely stunning set that blew away every other act that weekend (and there were some great acts that included Rory Gallagher, UFO and Iron Maiden) and I witnessed what was definitely one of the greatest live concerts I have ever been at. Jim Lea was truly demonic switching from bass guitar to violin and back again. They also played "Merry Christmas Everybody" on the August Bank Holiday weekend but the crowd lapped it up. That gig re-launched their careers and as someone who only knew Slade up to that point because of their chart singles, I went back and explored their albums properly to uncover some absolutely brilliant songwriting and I realised at that point how shamefully ignored they were. It's fantastic to see Jim Lea is still going strong.
Lovely performance Jim. I'll never forget my teenage years when you, Rod, Marc, Sweet, Osmonds, Carpenters, Gilbert etc brought so much joy into our lives with such Great memorable songs. Happy Xmas, Gary 🎁🎄☃️❄🍷🍾🍻👦👍
Thanks Jim Lea! You made Xmas 2024 really magical with this amazing version of your song - is it better than the original? Who can say, but wow, this acoustic style brings out new meaning for sure! Sleighed?! and thanks also for Coz I Luv Yoo, My Friend Stan... great songwriting :)
Nice one Jim. A great song can be performed with minimal instrumentation as you have just proved. Happy Christmas mate; thanks for the music and memories!
@@Nyquest Aboslutely. I generally hate it when artists do acoustic versions of their most famous songs but this is really pure and captures the spirit 150%
One of the most underrated contributors to British songwriting. His hit rate was phenomenal. In fact Slade were a great rock band
From a poster on my bedroom wall when I was 17 to a video on my iPad when I’m 67. What a life we lead. Music transcends it all.
Saw them live in 1972. Still listening to them now 52 years later. Good music lasts a very long time.
I'm. 62 and still love the 60s and 70s music encoding the beatles slade and more

@@rabkerr5093 Ha ha, Suzie Quattro was backing for them at Stretford Hardrock ( long since gone), to 15 year old me she was a goddess.
That’s because it is God given.
Legend....thanks jim
Glad he took his mother’s statement as a challenge…we were gifted this wonderful song, with help from Noddy.
This acoustic version is fantastic! Jim sounds great. I hope he records this so we can have this version in our collection.
Christmas in England wouldn't be Christmas with this wonderful song, which I've no doubt will be sung by the people of the UK for ever, come Christmas time. Thanks Jim. Merry Christmas, health and happiness to ya.

God bless you, Jim! thanks for all of the wonderful wonderful songs. Legend!
Wow. I wasn't expecting that. I knew Jim was a significant creative force in the songwriting department at Slade towers but what a truly lovely voice. And a very tidy guitar arrangement to boot. Really rather moving.
The most talented musician in Slade by a million miles.
But him and Nod together - genius 🙏🏻
Most versatile - like McCartney in The Beatles - but in the end, none of Slade made it solo, unlike ex Beatles!
Beautifully done Jim. Merry Christmas and thanks Jim, Noddy, Dave and Don for the best all time Christmas song ever made
This guy made my childhood so much better.

Huge respect for the sublime 3- way pun with slayed/sleighed/Slade. Just fabulous!
I'm 66, this is the first time I've ever heard that line, spotted the play on the word immediately. Utterly brilliant.
