I think there is an effect added but he also tends to cup his mic a lot which gives that almost muffled type effect to his vocals .

That’s true, he don’t use any effect he just cup his mic a lot

It's pretty clear on My Last Serenade. At one point he sings a line straight into the mic with no cup and it is clear as day.

This is my favorite heavy rock song of all time. I was born in 84. I grew up listening to metal threw the late 90’s and mid 2000 and I still come back to this song!

ROH, WWE, AEW, wrestler Roderick Strong used to use this song as his theme he finally brought it back in AEW. Also, nice reaction.

Always had the same hang up about his vocal filters in a lot of their lives. I've seen Killswitch 3 times and there is just so much depth and passion to this band. Their first and now current vocalist, Jesse Leach, is a special one to a lot of us. They pulled me and many others out of some really dark times. Both vocalists are amazing and even collab on a song at one point. The original vocalist and the guitar player, Adam D. (Who is also their producer) formed a side project called 'Times of Grace' that is responsible for some of my favorite songs ever. I'd love to see you take a tour through their discography. Thanks for the reaction, brother! Do yourself a favor and grab the album 'alive or just breathing' and just listen to the whole damn thing.

Surprised you've never heard this one before. I believe you're a pro wrestling fan(?) Roderick Strong used this as his entrance theme in ROH and is now using it again in AEW.

When I returned to metal around 2005, basically returning to my roots, this band was one of the first I checked out. I think because they had just released a new album, of which this was the title track. So it was widely available and an easy release to find. I can tell you their brand of lyricism and themes are always on the positive side. Positive and also strong. I think the lead vocalist here, Howard Jones, has a great clean singing voice with some good distortion. My only real beef with this live performance is the backing vocals on the chorus, which Howard sang himself on the album. Nothing against the guy on guitar but I just think he under-sang his parts. Unfortunately what happened with Howard, though, is that he had to bail while on tour due to a serious medical incident. I’ve read that he suffers from a very real condition that has hugely and negatively impacted his health in the past. Yet online, people have trashed and insulted him for what he did. My view is, screw them, they have no idea what he has gone through. And in fact, he remains an awesome metal vocalist while they remain an awesome metal band.

It’s not an effect. It’s cupping the mic. Definitely purposeful.

There's a mix of this song for one of the Resident Evil movies that is clean vocals if you want to check that out on your own sometime. I actually prefer the clean vocals also.

This is not an effect on Howards vocals, I've seen him live with them and his former band Blood Has Been Shed everywhere from large concert venues to dive bars and he REALLY does sound like that, even when he talks in a normal voice. Difficult to believe, I know.
