    Surprise double reaction!!! Sweet!! Edit: Nope, IT'S A TRIPLE REACTION!!!!!!
    What you heard was 3 songs. The End of Heartache, Take This Oath, and Numbered Days.
    Killswitch Engage is widely considered to be one of the gods of Metalcore, much of what they were doing was groundbreaking at the time. They are the same general genre as Slipknot (rock/metal), but they are a very different sub-genre (of which there are dozens, maybe hundreds if you include the "core" variants). Officially Slipknot is Groove Metal but I personally would classify them as Hardcore or Dark metal, while Killswitch is textbook Metalcore.
    TBH, it's kind of ridiculous how many sub-genres there are but there are so many different qualities to metal that you almost have to define and divide them to a ridiculous extent, otherwise you end up with bands like The Beatles (technically rock) getting lumped in with bands like Bring Me The Horizon, and there's really no common ground between the two outside of the fact that there's a guitar and bass and drums.
    Last edit: since you mentioned it, and I know you're going to hate this, but the "longhorns" sign is actually devil horns, it's a relic from when the older generations called it devil music (a small portion legitimately was, to be fair) without giving it a proper analysis, so we adopted the devil horns to piss them off.

    • @davebcf1231
      @davebcf1231 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      Nah, that's not where the horns came from.
      It's because Dio did it on stage and people adopted it from there as the sort of unofficial symbol of metal/rock. As several others have mentioned it actually came from his Italian grandmother, and in Italian culture it's meant to ward off evil

      Also Slipknot is NuMetal not groove metal. They were one of if not the original NuMetal bands. For BP NuMetal is a fusion of metal and rap that came out in the late 90's to early 2000's

    • @MidnighTokr
      @MidnighTokr 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@xROBIx85 I agree, but if you google it they come up as Groove Metal. NuMetal has a sort of rap feel to the vocals and old Slipknot has that to a T, but I don't think the same can be said for their post "All Hope Is Gone" work.

      @pillboss1987 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@davebcf1231the hand sign is called the “Maloik” not 100% on the spelling. It’s Italian, it was originally used to ward off the “evil eye” or bad vibes from people, it also can be used to give the “evil eye” to people. Dio would see his very religious grandmother do it when he was a boy. He started doing it with Black Sabbath simply because he thought it looked cool.

    As i wrote on Knox hills latest reaction to Korn:
    Metalheads are the most empathic and loving crowd of ppl. We have all seen our share of pain and struggle and understand how it feels to be looked down upon. And we all seem to be combatting the very thing we feel is wrong with the world.
    Metal is about catharsis. Letting out our demons so we can show the world the same love we so desperately seek ourselves.
    I can see you are slowly starting to get the rowdy fun enjoyment it is to just telling the world to fuck off for a few minutes! :D
    p.s. Saw Killswitch live more than once. allways a good time!

    • @MidnighTokr
      @MidnighTokr 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'll agree, the vast majority of metal is substantive and is about dealing with real life shit, or calling out injustice/hypocrisy. To add another layer, there's also a technical depth to metal that is just generally not there in most other genres. The only other genre that is equal or surpassing metal in technical complexity and depth would probably be classical composition, in my opinion.
      To support your point, I have found a sort of balance emotionally rather than bouncing back and forth between angry and depressed by literally screaming along with these guys at my steering wheel, Killswitch specifically and metal vocalists generally. It's relieving and pretty fun, I always feel physically spent but mentally uplifted afterward.

    @Black Pegasus I know I am a bit late to the game, but I just found your reaction channel.
    Killswitch Engage (KSE) = Metalcore
    Slipknot = Nu Metal
    Ronny James Dio's grandmother who was from the island of Sicily used her pointer and pinky fingers pointed straight forward to ward away evil spirits and Ronny started doing it at concerts and it later became to be known as the Devil horns even though that was way out of context. Now it's just seems to be a greeting of anything metal music related.
    KSE lyrics are meant to be empowering and to be anything but negative. They aren't afraid to speak on all topics to include death, suicide, relationship hardships, breakups, and how to feel happy. I've been listening to the band since their conception in the early 2000's. They are from Massachusetts also.
    Also learning to hear low, mid, and high growls is really a familiarity thing. Plus some singers are more clear than others tbh. I would think it would be the same for listening to different rappers who have different styles to the way they bend their voice. Anyways, I hope this is helpful and have a great day.
    P.S. That was Three songs actually.(The End of Heartache, Take this Oath, and not sure on the last one) Also, The End of Heartache was nominated for a Grammy and lost only to Metallica. They also performed that song at the Grammys.

    OKAYYY a few things BP!
    1. Welcome to Metalcore, it is a subgenre of heavy metal
    2. The 'Texas longhorns' symbol is commonly and colloquially referred to as 'The Horns' (i.e "Get those horns in the air) which today really means 'rock on' or 'hell ya' etc. but it started off in heavy metal
    3. You listened to 3 songs!
    A: The End of Heartache
    B: Take This Oath, a personal favorite of mine
    C. Numbered Days
    At 11:54 you mentioned your moms trying to keep you from this genre of music cause of it being the devils music etc, and then you went on to explain you've found it to have more deeper meanings and you are 100% correct. Through the harsh vocals (the technique is called vocal frys or screams or growls by the way) aggressive tones, and intense drumming Rock/Heavy Metal has its roots in blues and Jazz. Alot of tuning, Drop C/D got its start in those genres and it morphed over time. Unless you really really dive into metal you're not gonna find the dreaded 'pray to satan our lord' stuff that most people automatically associate with metal (And I mean you reallllly have to dive deep down to find it) Thats all I can think of for now. I would 100% recommend pulling up the lyrics, especially on your first listen. If you're new to metal its nearly impossible to pick up on the double entendres, expressions etc. Great reaction as always BP, much love from the west coast.

    The "longhorns" symbol is actually intended as devil horns, which originated from a guy named Ronnie James Dio (had a stint singing in the bands Rainbow and Black Sabbath, as well as his solo stuff as "Dio"). He picked it up from his very Italian grandmother who would point the horns at bad characters to ward off evil. Dio would be a great watch to see one of metal's legendary personalities. yup, that is the universal sign for "hello / YES! / Hail / great! / metal!" for all metalheads. Not to be mistaken with the Hawaiian sign where the thumb is also open.

      One of my core memories is of Dio. When i was a bit younger, my mom took me to a concert where we went backstage and got to hang out with the band (Magica tour so 2000ish), and we were the last group go go back (you know the jokes we were telling in line), and what was supposed to be a 15 minute meet and greet turned into hanging out for over an hour before the manager forced them onto the bus. 😂
      In 2004 when he came through again we went to see him. Once again we got to meet with him, and I'm not joking when I say, he remembered name. 4 years later, no telling how many other fans he met and interacted with, and he somehow remembered me. And apparently that's not an unheard of story. He was a legend.

    I like how they all look like they showed up for different events. One is looking like 3rd place in a Tommy Lee lookalike contest.. singer looks like he's just going to a tailgate party n a game... another looks like he's trying out for pantera... another guy is at a monster convention as dracula... the drummer is trying out for the reboot of modern family. It's an eclectic group that represents their range from beautiful to harsh

    Added bit of context here: this is at the Worcester Palladium in Massachusetts, about an hour away from where the band initially formed in Westfield Mass. Basically a home show for these guys, even a full decade later it's still talked about fondly

    It is another song yeah, they freakin rules. In the metal-core scene they are a inspiration for the new bands comin up and growing with this band and bunch of other. The singer you see replaced another guy for couple of years. Than the original singer came back and they even duo on one of their last album. This is a pretty emotional music to listen to. It gives me chills every time!

    Welcome to metal, for a good portion of bands. The audience comes in knowing the music and the lyrics and most of us just want to celebrate our love of the music together with the musicians. There are bad eggs in every genre, but every metal / hard rock show I have been to have been really positive and therapeutic for the me, and most of the audience.

    Killswitch Engage is considered by many to be the first band to popularize Metal-Core (or the sing/scream style)

    • @davebcf1231
      @davebcf1231 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Sort of. Metalcore started in the late 80's. KSE was one of the bands to popularize second wave metalcore in the early 2000's. Bands like Vision of Disorder, Cro-Mags, Hatebreed, Pro-Pain, Biohazard, etc popularized the 1st wave in the early to mid 90's.

    • @HeroInTragedy
      @HeroInTragedy 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @davebcf1231 Well, I know the screams vocals came out of Hardcore, and some of those bands have more of the hard-core roots than others, but there's a real discussion for Killswitch to be the most influential in modern day metalcore

    • @davebcf1231
      @davebcf1231 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@HeroInTragedy It's just fact that metalcore started in the late 80's. KSE is part of the second wave of metalcore. BTW, clean vocals are something some bands in metalcore do, but there are bands that don't as well. One of the biggest bands of 2nd wave metalcore is Parkway Drive and they had no cleans on any of their early albums. It's not a diss to KSE just to state the fact that the genre had a whole first wave that was popular (within the metal scene) before they were even a band.
      "but there's a real discussion for Killswitch to be the most influential in modern day metalcore"
      There are a lot of other bands that came out right around that same time that were hugely influential as well. August Burns Red, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive, Unearth, Trivium, etc...

    • @MidnighTokr

    Just as the✌ 'V' for victory, evolved to my generations ✌ peace sign. The " Hook 'em horns"🤘, evolved to a symbol 🤘 for 'metal'! Symbols take on many meanings over time and usage. Just as the swastika was an ancient symbol for infinity, till it was co-opted by the Nazi's! Metal music may have the most sub-genres of all, this is considered 'metal-core'. Peace & Love from an old music loving hippie.🤘&✌.
