      Hey Gary! A bit behind the scenes. I shot our Camry (th-cam.com/video/LEWvWiinvjk/w-d-xo.html) & Crown (th-cam.com/video/GiiJ5QOz3PM/w-d-xo.html) episode at Zero Dark Thirty that same morning so was up at the ranch before anyone else arrived. Gave me a lot of time with the rolling chassis which ended up in this episode without anyone around more than others.

    My main issues are 2 fold with these small trucks ,it includes ,Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma ect, is the poor mileage for 1 , I mean I have a Ford f150 4x4 it has the 2.7 turbo and averages around 20 mpg and with the larger fuel tank i can go 600 miles on a tank, towing i can go 400 miles, thats nice to have , My last Nissan averaged 15 mpg and I currently have a 2022 tacoma 4x4 that averages about 17.5 mpg and goes about 275 miles on a tank, I would like to see if. Nothing else, a extended range fuel tank because if i tow with my toyota I go about 150 to 200 miles and have to fill up vs 400 in my f150 ,so please add a bigger fuel tank so the trucks have more range since the mileage probably wont change ,another 10 gallons of capacity would help a lot

    Can you ask Sheldon why does not Toyota make part-time 4WD with a central differential (either a lockable open one or a limited-slip one) that would allow driving on non-slippery surfaces in 4L and 4H? Is it only due to cost saving considerations or to something else?

    Didn´t saw such a shackey gear lever in so many years... almost like it has life in itself hehe. Pity we don´t get any nice trucks here in europe. Well, at the current pace we may not get even cars but that´s a whole another topic. Looks like quite a capable vehicle off-road, must be a nice buy overall. New infotainment in toyotas is way greater than before. Finally they are up to par to most decent manufacturers.

      You're crazy bro if something happened to my 3rd gen Tacoma 🛻💨 I would look around for a used one with low mileage & garage kept. They really skimped out on a lot of options that used to be standard and what you do get when you option up is so damn expensive I mean when you have an options package that adds 10K to the price something's wrong... In 2022 I paid $39,280 for a poverty 📦, manual transmission TRD off-road brand 🆕 now to get an SR5 basic AF you're talking $42-45K no upgraded Bilstein suspension, no OVERSIZED rear differential with a LOCKER like my TRD off-road has. The way the rear seats fold up is goofy you have to pay extra to get the rear sliding glass, WAY more complicated than the V-6 ever thought to be. And then you downsize to a four-banger to pull around a 5000 lb truck you're really working that turbo not a good idea I've had 3 newer turbocharged vehicles from Honda 1.5L turbo civic CVT & 2019 1.5L civic Si & 2020 accord 2.0T touring!! I live in Phoenix after you get on them a couple of times they get heat soaked🌡️120°+ in the summer ⛱️🌞 turbo is a horrible Idea imo. Different climates you will have different outcomes but naturally aspirated might not do as well at high elevation but it NEVER stops working! I always told myself if I get back into a naturally aspirated vehicle I'll never touch another turbo. My Tacoma is far from perfect but it doesn't give me those stupid problems the turbo did, it's less complicated & after the OTT tune it drives much smoother with 20 hp & 25tq extra. And I got it after it had been built for about 7 years so hopefully it's pretty solid & most the issues are worked out

    Judging by how much the shifter moves, the motor mounts are really soft, which apparently is necessary for NVH mitigation of the (mandatory) 4-cylinder engine.

    That's funny that there's still a big gap between 1st & 2nd ⚙️ with the 🆕 models That's exactly how my 2022 6-speed manual feels with the V6 😂 it feels really good off-road in 1st ⚙️ but starts to lug if you put it in 2nd... if you're on road 1st ⚙️ only revs up to about 34 mph but the truck doesn't start to pull with tq until like 42 mph but as long as it's reliable & continues to do what it does I'm not going to complain. It's 1 hella of a 🛻💨 & would NOT trade it in. That's just me tho

    • @BLtheP
      @BLtheP ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pretty certain they are using a very similar transmission. 3rd gen has the RC62F. There are other transmissions in the same family in the diesel Hilux trucks that share the exact same 1st and 2nd gear cluster internally but have a different tail set gear at the rear of the transmission, which changes the ratios of 1st and 2nd but changes them proportionally. Meaning they are the exact same distance apart as the old transmission, yet the ratios are new and lower. There is a very good chance the new truck is using one of the Hilux transmissions because the first gear of the new truck (4.78 per TFL ) matches the Hilux models. Time will tell, but chances are nearly 100% that the 1-2 gap is exactly the same proportion, just lower ratios.

    Crappy fuel economy.
    Full size American pickups do just as well and better.
    Plus, it's too expensive. $50k To get some basic off road bits.
    That's 4 years of state university tuition in CA.
    Just not worth it. By the time you can afford it, you're to old and cranky to use it.
    Need a $25k version with some off road kit

      You’re stuck in the last. Yeah. It’s expensive. But no more expensive than anything else. You can barely get a Corolla for $25k

    Tacoma will not do cylinders anymore. That sucks. Screw 4 cylinder turbo or no turbo.

    Toyota isn't the king anymore in value or capability. Hilariously over priced and in all actuality probably peaked 20ish years ago.

    I can’t say enough about not getting the manual transmission. The automatic transmissions of today technology are super reliable and d dependable. Only about 15% of the population knows how to drive a manual transmission hiring resale big time. Off roading with a manual will be more difficult when on hill climbing and using clutch. No benefit to this transmission

    • @T_81535
      @T_81535 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just cause you can't drive one😂

    • @retro_grade

      I wouldn't have purchased a 3rd gen Tacoma had it not come with a manual transmission. The single biggest reason I bought the truck. Yes, a very small minority of people do actually enjoy driving their vehicle, even their daily.
      The rest are fine with appliances on wheels.
      Manual does NOT hurt resale in the long run, flatout incorrect....especially on a Tacoma. In fact it's the opposite. Small/niche market = more money and more collectible long term.

      The Tocoma's had an issue with gear hunting in the automatic transmissions. Just talked to an owner who has a 2023 and he hate that it is alway shifting looking for the sweet spot. I love my manual transmission. Wish 1st gear was a bit lower..
