Little known fact - Ann Miller was considered the top of a very short list of brilliant and innovative tap dancers of her day - male or female. Among her routines she devised a tap rhythm move while spinning that no one has ever been able to duplicate. The late, great tap master Gregory Hines said that of all the tap moves he'd studied, he could never figure out how she did it, nor how she made such a complex routine look so simple. Also worthy of mentioning - Ann was born in 1923, which made her about 47 years old for this performance -- still sporting her eye-popping dancer's legs!
Look up, Melinda Sullivan, she has managed to master the Annie Miller tap spin. But I agree Its mind boggling how Annie could spin and tap simultaneously. And although Elle was great, she wasn't hoofer like Annie.
...Cool to see the classic musical performers of the 40's/50's updated to the unconventional 60's productions, in this case, Ann Miller. I feel gifted to have experienced her contribution to entertainment while she was alive and socially "more" relative. Today, 2024, her 60 year legacy easily can be ignored as a "who?"
And this is what I love at TH-cam and collectors... an avid Ann Miller fan I've acquired most of her TV appearances, but a clearer copy than the poor quality one that has been on here for years eluded me. Thanks so much for allowing us to watch this more clearly. If you've got any other Miller rarities, I would love to see them.
This landed on my radar back in the 90's thru a collectors clip reel. Wish I had access to the Hwd Palace archive. There's gota be tons of this kinda stuff. I knew Annie, and she deserves to be remembered.
This was awesome. First time viewing it. Great to see her pulling in a new style and the physicality is impressive. Always enjoyed her dancing and interviews. Thanks for finding this gem!
She stopped in to our salon when on tour with Sugar Babes. I shampooed her hair, she sat under the dryer and popped a wig on and left. Ann was so dedicated to her craft. She stayed in shape and was ready to perform at any time.
Far-out, Ann Miller & company! Good for her! What year was this broadcast, 1964? And, any idea who directed / choreographed this number? It feels like Tony Charmoli. Do you know who the dancers are? Thanks for posting this.

She was in amazing shape and unbelievable dancing for 47 years old.

Hard to believe she left us 20 years ago.
