If you create a mod or rom. Does the created image for the box or cover art mean that the game doesn't exist? No. It's not cheap to show a created cartridge cover art for a fan made game when this is what every mod or fan made rom does with it's box or cover art and they're not always all the same cover art either. The cover art itself can vary since no one really holds ownership over them.
The only WCW Main Eventers that featured in the Invasion was Booker T & Diamond Dallas Page... and they somehow manage to derail DDPs entire character in about a couple of months turning him into a joke...

I was totally shocked/shook; I never would dream the day that I would see ATM Eric/Easy E in the WWE/WWF; I liked ECW (Paul Heyman/Paul E. Dangerously) more; but having Stephanie McMahon as a ECW representative; she was wearing a black beret. That didn't make sense at all. (Having Heyman, Tod Gordon, Rob Feinstein (RF Video) or Bob Ryder would have been a better choice.)
it was because WWF back then saw wcw starts as a threat to their own wrestlers, it was ridiculous, they bury everybody they did it to Booker T despite his being so popular, they did it to DDP, even ecw stars like Tommy dreamer, Tazz was so feared in prime ECW when he joined WWE he became a joke.
Fun Fact: WWF No Mercy was always the last AKI game created for n64 and WWF Backlash was just not only a rumor but was never planned in the first place, many people think that it was real because of AKI wanting to work with EA for a WCW game and they didn’t actually do much but WCW was bought by the WWE, so they decided to make Def Jam Vegetta games
This is normal for roms and fan modded games. They'll either show a fan made art with a cartridge for the game image or they'll show a box cover art. There's nothing deceiving about it when every rom or fan made rom modification does this.
I agree. Imagine seeing the likes of RVD, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Y2J, Rock, Austin, Angle, Booker T, Taker etc on a weekly basis. Sure, the booking and story was heavily flawed but at least it wasn't boring.

I knew that as soon as Shane came out and said he bought WCW that the angle was going to be lame. When Stephanie was announced as ECW's owner, the angle was doomed. I was like "Here we go AGAIN. ANOTHER McMahon family feud." I skipped the Invasion entirely.

The death of WCW and the year or so that followed pretty much killed my own love of "wrasslin" Not all bad, as it opened up a lot a free time from when I was watching every moment of both promotions. Lol.

I've gotten this mod to work some what, using the quick installation thing from Old Skool Reunion, but many of the textures in the menus don't load. The guides all say to use Rice Video for the graphics plugin, but the version of PJ64 that comes with the mod doesn't accept Rice, you have to use Glide, which is something they really need to specify.
What I used to hate about all these mods were they used to have all these hacked moves for moves that were already in the game which looked shitty compared to the in game animations. They always give orton some weird rko when the default diamond cutter looks a hell of a lot better. They changed triple h's pedigree to either include a kick or have him let go of the arms but the hacked animation is always too fast or just looks stupid compared to the vanilla move.
Smackdown just bring it had such the perfect feel for that era. It just screams 2001 even when you open it today. It was just missing those alliance members :(
I've known of these games for over a decade and am in my early 20s a d even I agree because while at the time I cam see how amazing the game might have been... I really have no idea what makes the game all that fun nowadays lol. I am spoiled with the games of today and some of the features they have that No Mercy didn't have lol
I'm super grateful for the modding community but a huge opportunity has been lost. For reasons I'll never understand, AKI's Japanese version of these wrestling games (which were branded as Virtual Pro Wrestling and featured wrestlers from New Japan Pro Wrestling and All Japan Pro Wrestling, which was like the equivalent of having WWE and WCW wrestlers in the same game) had more features than we ever got in the west.
Former THQ producer Sanders Keel just did the Insiders Edge podcast last Thursday. He confirmed WWF Blacklash is myth. AKI and THQ were done working with each. AKI was done on the N64 and wanted to make games on the PS2, but THQ had contracted Yuke's for that. Keel was the guy who gave the thumbs up for AKI to make WCW games and he was a producer on all the AKI games from WCW vs. The World to WWF No Mercy.

AEW Fight Forever by Yuke's with the AKI N64 director, Geta-san, is going to be a spiritual No Mercy sequel. There's a few Indy projects that look promising like UE4Luchador and Ultra Pro Wrestling (which has a Kickstarter) but the AEW has some of the same DNA as the AKI games. Edit: 3/2/2023

The AKI engine was lost and 2K kept Yuke's engine when they fired Yuke's before calendar year 2019 and 2K continues to use it today. Yuke's built a new engine from scratch in Unreal Engine with Geta's input. AKI changed its name to syn Sophia in 2009 and started making Girl Rhythm and dress up games under the names Style Savvy, Pretty Rhythm, and PriPara for the DS and arcade. They announced on latest Nintendo Direct as as of 3/2/2023 that they're making their first game for the switch entitled Fashion Dreamer. Fight Forever Creative Designer Kenny Omega visited the syn Sophia (former AKI) studios and only one person was left from their wrestling days. In June 2022 Omega told Fightful that Geta's old contacts hopped on board to help push the take to the finish line and at the same time Mike Straw reported that gameplay has been "massively improved" over the last six weeks. It's "night and day." Also since THQ Nordic became the publisher some old faces from the original THQ, who are now working for THQ Nordic joined the product like Senior Licensing & Marketing Manager David Knudsen who was involved WWE Smackdown! vs Raw 2007, 2008, 2009 2010, and WWE Legends of WrestleMania. I don't think you could get much closer to an AKI game than this.
I think they saved the other WcW wrestlers for later years so that there was something to look forward to in 2002 and 2003. They just needed to keep Kronik and perhaps get Vampiro and Sting in there at the time of Invasion. But Sting didnt want to.
Vince should kept it secret that he bought and owned wcw and kept it running for the rival to continue. He could made more money off both product. Yea sure eventually word would get out he owned wcw but by then he would made bank off it. Instead of the invasion angle. Which was boring because most the wcw top stars took their contracts from turner network and stayed home for few years. Thats why Goldberg didn't show up till 2003. And why sting never did until late in his career

I Feel That What TRULY Made ALOT Of 1999-2009 Wrestling Games Great Wasn't Just The Roster, But Storylines As Well. Example: WWF Attitude Might Have Been Made For MOST Consoles, But Was Better On PSone As You Could Save & Load Up To 30 CAW's & PPV's Per Card. Whereas SmackDown 2 Only Allowed 15 & Eventhough There Was Create A Taunt & BETTER Scantly Dressed Wemon You Could Make, You Couldn't REALLY Recreate Other Known Wrestlers Outside Of Those From The 1st Game. This ALSO Continued in The Following PS2 Game Which Had Fred Durst As An Unlockable? RAW 2 (Xbox) & SVR 2010 On PS2 Were Pure Perfection in CAW & PPV Creation! You Could Even Make Your OWN Backstage Arguements Like in 80's & 90's WWF Programs!!
Although in 2001 the storyline was what it was when Vince purchased WCW would he have not had the rights to use Hogan, Nash, Hall, Goldberg, Sting ect. If they wanted too even though they had contractual issues in real life.
I feel they screwed up the invasion angle hard. If done right.... it could still be going on today. The entire company could have ran off this whole brand thing.... and it wouldn't matter who won.... Vince now owned the competition. If WCW beat WWE in ratings... it didnt matter....he would still get paid. So much money was left on the table.
To be fair if they didn’t bury DDP and turn booker T into an Uncle Tom and maybe brought up some of the other decent names in WCW instead of McMahon shitting on women and wcw it would have been better
Though wwe did definitely not handle the invasion angle as well as they could of. It wasn't totally out of their control. The biggest wcw stars had big guaranteed paydays made more sense to stay at home then wrestle. They waited til those contacts were over before coming to wwf
They could of given us the wrestling invasion roaster and story angle in video game form for the PlayStation 2, gamecube and the original Xbox at the very least but sadly it never happened.

Oof. The Invasion storyline was NOT as bad as the Star Wars Sequel trilogy. Especially since Disney and directors could have done basically everything they wanted. WWF (WWE now) couldn't actually sign many of the top WCW stars and a few took time away from wrestling in general such as Goldberg and Sting. So not even WWF's fault. And even though the storyline was admittedly a mess, there are still some very memorable moments and shows that would never happened if it weren't for the Invasion storyline. I can could on one hand the amount of truly great and amazing moments come from the Star Wars sequel trilogy and most are from the Force Awakens
@Water Sniper But they weren’t in Wrestlemania 2000. But the move sets were there from WCW/nWo. And Raven went back to ECW before going to WWF. So maybe AKI had knowledge that Raven might go to WWF, so his tattoos and costume were put in the game.
I feel the cartridge picture is somewhat deceiving, I know many mods have been covered in the channel but for many of us who doesn't have much experience in wrestling games is difficult to keep up with titles so it seems you were talking about an official release since the accompanying title says "it exists", without clarifying how. I never liked No Mercy, I mean, I never thought it was a relevant wrestling game. Wrestlemania 2000 was the elite N64 WWF game. I think that dumb internet kids saw 'oh No mercy was the last 1 release so its the best cause its the most recent' and then just stuck with it. But Im 34, I was 13 when the game came out, I was actually there, and I can tell you, noone thought about No Mercy. It wasn't a game many people played. There were like 4-5 N64 Wrestling games more popular than that. I realize some people might not agree with this but this isnt my opinion, this is a fact. Yes modders and rom players like No Mercy NOW, but they didnt BACK THEN.
Thats not accurate. Im 35 and had all the WWF and the WCW games for N64 and No Mercy clearly was the best...it was simply an updated Wrestlemania 2000.
The good old days of wrestling I miss these years I mean Blockbuster was the place FYE was the place to go get the games Toys r Us KB's toy store in the mall and let us all not forget being able to go and hang out with your friends in toy stores not just video games but toys at the end sometimes they'd make popcorn at home or some surprise and then you spend all night watching movies playing video games emptying up your bladder and do it again the next day those friends and those days

All these mods are hard to install and eventually stop working. Needs to be an easier way.
All you have to do is apply a patch file. It’s literally not hard at all

The AKI engine was lost and 2K kept Yuke's engine when they fired Yuke's before calendar year 2019 and 2K continues to use it today.
Yuke's built a new engine from scratch in Unreal Engine with Geta's input.
AKI changed its name to syn Sophia in 2009 and started making Girl Rhythm and dress up games under the names Style Savvy, Pretty Rhythm, and PriPara for the DS and arcade. They announced on latest Nintendo Direct as as of 3/2/2023 that they're making their first game for the switch entitled Fashion Dreamer.
Fight Forever Creative Designer Kenny Omega visited the syn Sophia (former AKI) studios and only one person was left from their wrestling days.
In June 2022 Omega told Fightful that Geta's old contacts hopped on board to help push the take to the finish line and at the same time Mike Straw reported that gameplay has been "massively improved" over the last six weeks. It's "night and day."
Also since THQ Nordic became the publisher some old faces from the original THQ, who are now working for THQ Nordic joined the product like Senior Licensing & Marketing Manager David Knudsen who was involved WWE Smackdown! vs Raw 2007, 2008, 2009 2010, and WWE Legends of WrestleMania.
I don't think you could get much closer to an AKI game than this.

I think they saved the other WcW wrestlers for later years so that there was something to look forward to in 2002 and 2003.
They just needed to keep Kronik and perhaps get Vampiro and Sting in there at the time of Invasion.
But Sting didnt want to.
Vince should kept it secret that he bought and owned wcw and kept it running for the rival to continue. He could made more money off both product. Yea sure eventually word would get out he owned wcw but by then he would made bank off it. Instead of the invasion angle. Which was boring because most the wcw top stars took their contracts from turner network and stayed home for few years. Thats why Goldberg didn't show up till 2003. And why sting never did until late in his career

Although in 2001 the storyline was what it was when Vince purchased WCW would he have not had the rights to use Hogan, Nash, Hall, Goldberg, Sting ect. If they wanted too even though they had contractual issues in real life.

Vince now owned the competition. If WCW beat WWE in ratings... it didnt matter....he would still get paid. So much money was left on the table.

Oof. The Invasion storyline was NOT as bad as the Star Wars Sequel trilogy. Especially since Disney and directors could have done basically everything they wanted. WWF (WWE now) couldn't actually sign many of the top WCW stars and a few took time away from wrestling in general such as Goldberg and Sting. So not even WWF's fault. And even though the storyline was admittedly a mess, there are still some very memorable moments and shows that would never happened if it weren't for the Invasion storyline. I can could on one hand the amount of truly great and amazing moments come from the Star Wars sequel trilogy and most are from the Force Awakens

@Water Sniper But they weren’t in Wrestlemania 2000. But the move sets were there from WCW/nWo. And Raven went back to ECW before going to WWF. So maybe AKI had knowledge that Raven might go to WWF, so his tattoos and costume were put in the game.

Blame -USA Network- Edit: TNN. They wanted nothing to do with a WCW television program. Eventually the whole thing had to be scrapped.

y si es posible colocar bien las caras de algunos luchadores que algunos por no decir casi todos parece que se hicieron un estiramiento de cara jaja y si el luchador no se parece como ese tipo de cambios (si eres muy purista del conservarlo todo no se podría) pero yo digo que mientras estéticamente sea similar al juego no me molesta los cambios de cara

I never liked No Mercy, I mean, I never thought it was a relevant wrestling game. Wrestlemania 2000 was the elite N64 WWF game. I think that dumb internet kids saw 'oh No mercy was the last 1 release so its the best cause its the most recent' and then just stuck with it. But Im 34, I was 13 when the game came out, I was actually there, and I can tell you, noone thought about No Mercy. It wasn't a game many people played. There were like 4-5 N64 Wrestling games more popular than that. I realize some people might not agree with this but this isnt my opinion, this is a fact. Yes modders and rom players like No Mercy NOW, but they didnt BACK THEN.
Thats not accurate. Im 35 and had all the WWF and the WCW games for N64 and No Mercy clearly was the best...it was simply an updated Wrestlemania 2000.
