For me, the best version of Inferno to get if you want to experience the mold itself is Artfire. The deco layout is stellar, you get his targetmaster and it's SUPER articulated... definitely do Artfire over Inferno.
Bisq is an EXCELLENT design. Mindwipe is definitely the best update of the ‘con Headmasters. Fracture’s another solid one. RiD2015 did very well for what it was. No experience with MP Inferno, but he definitely looks like he lives by his accessories. Inferno was way more straightforward than many as an original toy to begin with. Doublecross had a lot of great elements to him, and they got a lot of alternative uses out of the mold. I liked Alpha Trion more back in the day than I do now, but I give it a lot of points for the effort in the triple changing. That’s honestly one of my favorite Megatron molds. And I love that the tank barrel is the fusion cannon. And he actually looks really great in all three molds. Good hiding of the other mode’s bits. Sixshot is pure gold. No experience with Primal, but he looks dang good. Ironhide toys always have an uphill battle, but the MP looks good. You’re spoiled for choices in TR. Hot Rod, Kup, Gnaw… The biggest miss I see here is RiD Legion class Springload, which does amazing work with a tiny toy.
This was the year that I started collecting and man, how far we have come. At the time, I didn't even know who Dinoking was and just a few weeks ago I got him.
My 10 - 10. TR Weird wolf 9. TR Sential Prime 8. CW Computron 7. TR Hardhead 6. TR Skullcrusher 5. TR Brainstorm 4. TR Hot Rod 3. TR Sixshot 2. TR Powermaster Optimus Prime 1. TR Triggerhappy ... This is one of my favorite transformer toylines ever love so many and still have some many
11:38 #5 Alpha Trion: I didn't get a hold of this figure until 2023. No regrets. This Prime has a place of honor next to my two Beast Wars Silverbolt figures. (Original release, and the recent remake.)
I remember 2016 being kind of hectic. With Combiner Wars over, it was now or never to get deluxes and finish Combiners. The original G1's were a priority, but it also burned me out a bit. You can only get the sedan/sports car mold so many times before you felt nothing collecting them. Like did I want a CW Ratchet when we had CW First Aid at home. Titans Return was above average, but in a weird way. When it was good, it knocked it out of the park, when it was meh, it was really meh. Here's my list. 1) Triggerhappy - Love the swoshability and it felt like a spiritual sibling to an X-wing fighters. 2) Brainstorm (mold) - I love the mold's versatility: a jet with Brainstorm, a car with Blurr and a mini sub with Nautica. 3) Crashbash (dino/dragon Master) - I liked the many variants it spawned. Overkill, Grimlock, etc. it was too cool. 4) Apeface (master size) - I just loved this little jet that turned into a mini-ape. A nice little fidget toy. 5) Twinferno - Give it up for the dragons. 6) Snapdragon - It is a toss up beween the 2 of you. I prefer Twinfero but Snapdragon is no slouch. 7) Legends Shockwave - Legends scale was hitting it out of the park. This Shockwave was ideal. Small size and the fidget ability make them list worthy.
Ah, 2016, the year I got back into Transformers after dropping out in 2010 when Animated ended. Got Titans Return Sentinel Prime that autumn and fell in love with the entire line.
Titans Return is definitely a golden age of Transformers. I likely to include Combiner Wars because I love combiners, I love the scramble gimmick and the simple repetitive transformations make for great fiddle figures, but I appreciate that the repaints killed CW for a lot of people, and it did disappoint me that the second filler Wave was more Autobot cars reusing 3 of the same molds as the first wave of Autobot cars.
Hey do you think it’d be a good idea to talk about the Dragon-Man and Sentinel “haslab” figures for the marvel line, and what kinds of figures between 85 to 185 dollars we could get if that happened for transformers? Cus imma be real and say Broadside might work for this. Siege jetfire’s size + triple changer engineering might mean he’s more expensive to make than a commander but less so than a Titan, meaning it’s a relatively good price point for him
I really wish those Decepticon beast headmasters from TR weren't cursed with plastic issues, with Weirdwolf's hinge and Mindwipe's wings crumbling. Skullcruncher seemed to at least get away with just annoyingly loose hips.
One thing is true, SixShot is certainly the best Titans Return Transformers of that time, still got him on my shelf among my other Titans Return collection. Great list, TJ!
I really wish I didn't sell off my TR Hot Rod after getting my SS 86 version. Don't get me wrong, the 86 version is *very* good, especially the robot, but TR has a really slick looking car mode, and I miss it.
I sold a fair chunk of my collection and I've spent the last couple years buying back the ones i regretted selling the most. Maybe one day you'll be able to buy back the TR toy
honestly ya the alpha trion is def under rated. very nice toy. Plus you can just explain the look has this was him back in the day when the rest of the 13 was still active fighting unicron.
I really love how Megatron's Jet Mode actually puts the Titan Master in the cockpit, because of limitations in, these parts need to transform, not every titan master got to go where you would expect them to go if they were 'driving;' the vehicle, (even with the cars the only Titan Master figure to respect that most cars have 2 abrest seating not a central cockpit was TLK Cogman) for insstance with the Octane/Optimus mold the Titan master sat in part of the Tanker/ the middle of the Jet, not the cab of the truck, nor the cockpit of the plane, how he gets in isn't all that accurate but the Titan Master sittick in Megatron;s jet cockpit how you'd expect a pilot to sit just sits right to me.
Splendid list, TJ-O! 🎉😊🎉 Alpha Trion was the very first Titans Return figure that I personally bought back in the day. Subsequently, I managed to collect the LGEX Lio Convoy redeco as well. The only sad thing is our earlier prediction of Victory Leo redone from this 'battle mage' mould did not come to pass... (Would've veen awesome!) Plus, a few fan-made 'Base Modes' are fitting in theme to create a micro city when displayed with others; not forgetting a few different orientations for Bot Mode. It is very rare to get a Transformer with both animal & vehicle alt modes, and I feel more could have been done with this tooling as opposed to so many other mind-numbing toolings that constantly get reused to no end. 😅
2016 there were still a few Combiner Wars figures being released but mostly repaints and retools. Not really a lot of actual new molds. This is also the first year of Titans Return so it's mostly that and RID2015. 10. Scorponok: This is one of the better animalistic Decepticons of this series cause he actually transforms into a scorpion rather than just having a scorpion as the robot. It's doing something new with the design. There is a repain named Paralon who is a homage to BW Scorponok while this guy is just a brand new design. I like the stinger becoming a weapon in robot mode. His claws end up as shoulder armor rather than just being his hand like every other Scorponok ever. This is how you do something new and different with a design. The only reason it's so low on the list is that I don't really like how thin his limbs are, if it was just a bit better proportioned he would be a lot higher. 9. Gnaw: I'm always going to love aquatic Transformers. I found mine at a Target in a mall in San Jose and I still prefer this version over the Deluxe that got made a couple years later mostly because I think he handles the kibble better. 8. Skullcruncher: A missed opportunity to repaint him with a new head as City of Steel Optimus Prime/Alligaticon. A 3rd party company thought to do this with there version but I really want an official one. 7. Sentinel Prime: I know this was just a pretool for Astrotrain but I actually hate this mold as the character it was intended for. As Sentinel Prime it works and the shuttle mode in the orange colors ends up looking like the Ark... also a missed Opportunity to make Omega Supreme because the shuttle mode is like the animated version and the train mode is like the Energon version. 6. Warrior class Fracture: One of my favorite RID2015 Decepticons. I did not include the Deployer because from what I've seen in reviews the gimmick on the Deployers doesn't even work and they have limited articulation. But the Warrior Class is just a good articulated figure. It is really difficult to turn a motorcycle into a robot and have the figure look good in both modes, especially the style of bike he turns into but this figure does a really good job and I love it. I bought this TWICE because there was an Earthquake or something while I was away from home and when I came back a lot of figures had been knocked over. I found most of them and placed them back up but I never found where Fracture ended up at after he fell and I ended up just getting a replacement. 5. Megatronus Prime/The Fallen: I'm going to add a disclaimer here that I went out of my way to get the Toys R Us exclusive version with the battle mask on. I don't like when he takes the mask off cause he just has a generic face under there and it takes away what makes his design unique and interesting. The mold also has some clever engineering so the waist joint can also allow the turret to rotate in vehicle mode which I wasn't expecting from a budgeted toy line. 4. Starscream: I love his design in RID. This is honestly my favorite Starscream design. I like the reference to the 86 movie with the wings forming a cape and the big shoulders but now it's all built in. All he's missing is the crown. The one down side to this design is that I don't think it works for the repaint as Skywarp. The more regal look fits Starscream's personality and don't really work for the other seekers. 3. Voyager class Titans Return Optimus Prime: I know this is a pretool for Octane but it just works as a Laser Rod Optimus Prime. I even like that it makes him a triple changer with a jet mode and seeing Optimus as anything other than a Truck is pretty rare. I would also like this as a scrouge but I think the color changing trick from a mostly Red truck to a mostly blue jet would be lost on Scourge. It's always fun when a figure can change color between modes. 2. Six Shot: Admittedly I was hoping for more with a modernized Six Shot. He doesn't look like he has the same range of articulation as RID2001 Megatron/Galvatron and that's really what I wanted out of this new mold. But I still have to give them credit for the engineering. Disclaim at this point, my number 1 is a HUGE cheat. 1. Combiner Wars Bruticus: Technically a lot of the molds used to make him are just repaints and retools of existing molds. However there are 2 new molds in this set that I'm using to justify this. Legends class Shockwave who is really just a hand gun Bruticus can hold. And Blast Off... and to clarify this set wasn't given a new member like other Combiner Teams but rather there are two different versions of Blast Off. The first version which is just a repaint of Quickslinger and not actually what Blast Off transforms into. Then there was a second mold made that was actually his proper Shuttle mode. Which technically doesn't come out till NEXT year. If you don't like my cheating you could always put Shockwave in the number 10 slot and move everyone up one but I consider the combiners as one set so this is how I'm ranking them.
I have so many mixed feelings on Megatronus. On its own it looks awesome, but because of his size, he doesn’t look imposing next to any prime or megatron. He needed upscaled but I don’t really any oversized KO of him.
I also loved the RID Skoroponk and only recently learned of a Japanese exclusive repaint that looks awesome. It reminds me of the G.I.Joe Sand Scorpions that Cobra used for their dessert forces.
@@NerdRahtio I personally never cared about scale but Megatronus and Optimus are about the same size in the cartoon anyway. He really only looks small next to the other Autobots who are generally shorter.
“Right off the bat” no pun intended you name two Decepticons that definitely deserve updates Mindwipe and Fracture, both getting new molds in the future the former getting a more G1 cartoon body and more articulate headmaster and the former a more show accurate figure.
Okay, Blurr / Brainstorm and Triggerhappy need to be on here. Those were the best deluxes from Titans Return. That Blurr is still better than the most recent one they did.
Ironhide is excellent except for those eyesore hip panels. But yes the trick is impressive. Inferno also has its masterpiece moment with the ladder. This is the golden era when they still brought the toys to life as you imagined they would be, rather than slavishly mimicking the toon
I’m not surprised Fortress Maximus didn’t make the list, but considering how highly TJ speaks of the Hot Rod from Titans Return, I am surprised he didn’t get a mention.
Doublecross is the only figure on this list I have. Good figure, also very rare for an Autobot to transform into a dragon much less a two headed one. Even though was got a couple in 2017. Wish i got Six shot though, kicking myself I didn't get him.
The only 2016 Titans Return figure I felt got snubbed here was deluxe Blurr. Sleek and pretty accurate in both modes with a 10 out of 10 transformation. Edit: I thought Triggerhappy was a 2017 release, but after double checking, 3 out of 4 sources say 2016. If that's the case, then the best Titans Return deluxe period has been lost. He was my post about Blurr on steroids.
When it's a year end figure the release dates get very weird, they'll be available to some earlier than others, but the official release date was January 30th, 2016.
I guess MP Ironhide is great if you can get past the oversize diaper, the hip skirts, and the wheels on the butt that go round and round. Unfortunately, I never could. And while I appreciate the reasonable price compared to subsequent MPs, I definitely would have paid another $20-30 if it meant fixing it's issues.
Are you considering Triggerhappy to be a 2017 toy? Because technically he came out in 2016 and is easily the best TR figure of the line. Also no Blurr and Chromedome? Dang…
@@SixshotRevan according to TFWiki his release is 2016, but I think it was more like December probably so for many it could have ended up seeing him early 2017
The Inferno I had was a parts-former, this looks like the same mold, the fists come off as a part of the transformation, and get lost eventually. FaiL for me.
Are my comments about Sixshot being a 2017 release getting deleted? I keep leaving to double check with more searches and my comments are gone when I come back. I'm not trying to be a troll. I genuinely believe he came out in 2017. TF wiki is the only source saying 2016 as far as I can tell. At least 3 other sources say 2017, plus my own memory. Edit: okay, just found a second 2016 source. Was his 2016 release overseas? I'm just trying to make sense of this.
I haven't deleted any corrections. First sighting was in Canada on December 18th, 2016, so he barely sneaks in. A lot December/January releases get hard to gauge when it comes to what year they were actually available, I use TFWiki to at least have a consistent source.
@@TJOmega Thanks for the clarification. Still don't know what happened to my first 2 comments. Tried to edit one of them after I did some research and the "edit failed". When I refreshed the page, the whole comment was just gone. Maybe TH-cam is just being weird for some reason. BTW does that make Triggerhappy a 2016 release as well? Because I had the same issue with him when I was trying to look it up. Different sources with different years.
I still want that skullchruncher as an Optimus Prime gator toon homage.
There's a third party toy that i think copies the titans return skullcruncher to make just that
For me, the best version of Inferno to get if you want to experience the mold itself is Artfire. The deco layout is stellar, you get his targetmaster and it's SUPER articulated... definitely do Artfire over Inferno.
Artfire always has the prettiest deco
Calling it now Titans Return Overlord is gonna be on the best of 2017

TR is my favorite Transformers line and I will always defend it and especially Megatron

Those titan return toys! Still love them!
As my first Transformer ever back in the 80's....I never expected Six-Shot to make the list.
Ahhhh the memories.
Titans Return Alpha Trion is my favorite design for him and Im so happy they gave him that lion mode in Transformers One

Throne?
Odd choice.

I think the Sixshot mold truly shined as Takara Legends Greatshot.
7:16 Sideways also has 3 f*ing forms!
I would've loved the Animated look for him.
I appreciate these lists thank you

Completely agree on Trion. I only sold mine off for downsizing and money; I love that figure
And finding the right add on kit to make TR Sixshot even more badass.

Edit: I thought Triggerhappy was a 2017 release, but after double checking, 3 out of 4 sources say 2016. If that's the case, then the best Titans Return deluxe period has been lost. He was my post about Blurr on steroids.
I like how a figure that came out December 1st 2015 won for figure of the year for 2016
When it's a year end figure the release dates get very weird, they'll be available to some earlier than others, but the official release date was January 30th, 2016.
I guess MP Ironhide is great if you can get past the oversize diaper, the hip skirts, and the wheels on the butt that go round and round. Unfortunately, I never could. And while I appreciate the reasonable price compared to subsequent MPs, I definitely would have paid another $20-30 if it meant fixing it's issues.
a new fracture would give us a new oilslick too
Titans Return Megatron funnily enough, pulls off the tank mode better than other tank Megatrons
Genuinely shocked Triggerhappy isn't on here
I also like Titans Return Alpha Trion.
Surprised there was no Triggerhappy. I think he's the best TR deluxe.
Great figure
my boy Shuffler won't be on the 2017 list but he has my vote
Also, another point regarding that alpha trion figure.
What does alpha trion turn into in transformers one?
How fitting. You'll hit 2024 during December.
What will replace this series?
Ranking transformers introduced in each year
Top ten worst figures of each year
The kingdom primal was so disappointing that I tracked down the masterpiece to be my version
Are you considering Triggerhappy to be a 2017 toy? Because technically he came out in 2016 and is easily the best TR figure of the line. Also no Blurr and Chromedome? Dang…
Where was Triggerhappy's 2016 release? Because I remember him releasing in 2017 too.
@@SixshotRevan according to TFWiki his release is 2016, but I think it was more like December probably so for many it could have ended up seeing him early 2017
That’s just straight up Lobo's bike
if number one isn't who I think it is I'm gonna lose it...
Ok I lost it
I personally think the SS86 did ironhide and ratchet well with their chests, howere I don’t own the MP so i’m not very credible
Lol beast machines buzz saw's wings become the legs in robot modes
Not by folding around themselves to become boxes.
Beast and vehicle modes aren't that uncommon: Doubledealer, Snapdragon, Apeface, etc.
I wish we will get a new Sixshot without the headmaster gimmick…
Did you really skip Triggerhappy?!

Triggerhappy erasure this cannot stand
I remember Triggerhappy being a 2017 release, so there's still hope.
@@SixshotRevan Oh it was? That is great
At this point, we'll be at 2024 by 2025
That’s not what that looks like
