I bought the 2022 ALR5 in white and I am really pleased with it. First new bike since I bought my Trek Y5 in 1996 which I still have. I must say so far I'm pleased this is a really fast bike.I plan on getting a few of the bags from Bontrager and adding all my Garmin stuff over.
Thank you great video! Was in market for SL6 but live and ride hills. SF South Bay shops had sale 3rd week of May; got an SL7. SRAM flawless. 700x40mm 50psi tubeless cushy stable ride for most sufaces. Very comfortable riding hoods, great climbing, confident downhill. Excellent for old broken overgrown roadways/railroad tracks shipyards, islands, bases, fire roads, packed dirt, expanded metal/concrete/asphalt bridges, marinas and boat launches, etc..
Trying to decide if the price premium for the SL5 over the ALR5 is worth it. There's not that big a weight difference, but I ride a carbon fiber bike now and know that the ride quality is noticeable.
When I asked for availability on a 2022 Checkpoint SL 5 54cm, they said if I put my order in today, I would get it in one year! That would be another model year! What’s going on?
Bike shortage, high demand for bikes in general. Trek and other brands can’t control what shimano and sram distribute so blame the group set companies not the bike manufacturer
I've got the earlier SL5, it's a great bike which one day I plan to turn into a single speed with the strangehold dropouts, it was one of the selling points for me, but yeah it is a bit heavy compared to all my other bikes.
I had a 2020 Checkpoint ALR5 but gave it to my wife as I had too much toe overlap; too much to enjoy the bike on trails or steep hills. It was a 52 and I wear size 11 shoes; my wife wears size 6.5 and was surprised of the toe overlap for her too! I never thought about that before I purchased the bike as I've never had that issue before with any of the many bikes I bough over the years.
@@pingpongballz5998 I guess the 650 wheels help. Thank you for the info. I looked at the front center measure, distance between crankset center and front wheel center, something I never did in the past, and found out Trek Checkpoint was, by far, the shortest! I decided to buy a Felt Breed 20 size 54, and because the geometry, front center is one of the longestvat 620, and stand over one of the shortest at 737, that makes it perfect for me as I'm between 2 sizes: 52 and 54. I just had the stem replaced for a shorter one. Specialized Diverge and BMC URS also have long NC. I just checked the Kona and it's 618mm for 54cm frame, which is long too, and with 650 wheels your good! No toe overlap there!
@@martinflibotte9857 nope! The Rove is built around 650b wheels. I liked the Breed too. Test rode it. But damn, all models are 1x. I prefer 2x. I was looking at the Giant Revolt. But all I heard was their carbon frame cracking.
Big tires are more shock absorbing so not needed they reckon and I'm grateful for the less complexity. I run my 40mm front tire pretty soft, like 20 psi for gravel with a Redshift Shockstem and 30 psi rear on a 38mm tire, I'm 64kg and this is pretty comfy on my earlier SL5.
@@rcg9573 Varied terrain like the west coast of Norway where I live? Plenty of 'real climbing' around here. Sounds like you need to train a bit harder.
How about some more gearing options for us 75 YO people who are carrying 40+ pounds of stuff in our panniers so we don’t bog down at the top of the hill?
A humble request to you folks at Trek. Please get serious about business in India, your dealer network is highly customer unfriendly. If its not a viable market let customers know and we will stop waiting endlessly.
The best bike you can have is one that people can buy. I am finding out that there is almost a one year lead time. That is not a good business plan. Maybe if they would make them in the USA, we could buy them instead of putting in a one to two year waiting list.
Its a shame you don’t offer 50/34 and 11-36 in the rear. Or where mine was ordered does not offer this. Which sucked so you can’t get it built like you really want it. I had to go with a 48/35 and 10-36 which i don’t want but you don’t offer 50/34 11-36

Have the original checkpoint SL6 it’s a great stead with gravel or road tires fitted. It’s my go to bike for off road rides.

Enjoy your new Checkpoint SL 7!
just ordered my SL6 Etap. Cant wait!

Awesome overview . Really looks like a practical bike. Definitely want one!
Compelling. Great use of this media. Helpful too.
Will there be a frameset option?

Why did Trek remove the adjustable dropout on the Checkpoint ALR 5 for 2022/23 ?
What’s the weight limit on fork? Will new fork fit older checkpoints?
Well, cool bikes I must say and seems to be well thought out. And question too: will there be Campagnolo Ekar version?
I have many bikes but always come back to my Crossrip. It just does anything
I wanted to buy a Trek gravel bike but decided to send my kid to college instead. The college tuition was cheaper.
Happy that I have my SLR equipped with Campagnolo Ekar.
How much does this bike weigh???

I have the 2020 Kona Rove NRB DL with 650b wheels. No toe overlap at all

I have toe overlap on every singe one of my road bikes (not sure about the MTB) but never found it to be an issue.
also for the slr can you have the same a amount of bags as I saw at the end of the video on the slr ?
You sure can! The SL does have the most mounts, but all of our Bontrager bags would work well with the SLR!
Does the SLR7 have the strangle hold thingee on it for Single Speed ...as it is something I dont want on the Bike ?
The Stranglehold Dropout is no longer on current Checkpoint models
Curious as to why there is no front IsoSpeed like on the Domane and Boone?

Such a pity the Force level SL7 isn't 1X. Why?!
Because 1x sucks for gravel
@@pingpongballz5998 Not at all, works very well for me. What you meant to say is _you_ don't like using 1x drivetrains for gravel riding.
@@Atomicunderware I didn't like it on my old bike
1X works for clowns whose idea of a climb is a 3% grade up a 1/4 mile hill. For any real climbing and descending varied terrain it blows. 😆😆

Does Trek lobby for biking infrastructure?
Just talked to several bike shops about ordering a SLR, and was told a 500 day wait time, which would put me into a 2024 model. Kind of ridiculous.
i own the 2020 al3. I want to upgrade my wheels lol
For long trips, I prefer my trek 1120 :D
My having money to spend on bikes has lined up nicely with the global bike shortage. Its like the universe doesn't want me to have a new bike.
Love how he screwed the bag mount screw, couldnt actually do it and just faked it and dropped it in the bag.
Had a gravel bike…back to hard tail 👌🏻
Yeah ok for short rides but gravel bike kills the MTB once you start doing longer distances.
Amazed

Building a frameset up now.

GRX make a 11T to 40T deraileur why not shove a cassette on there with a better up Hill / Gravel range than the Ultegra 11-34

Awesome, love the content but please buy some mics. It sounds like shit.
Silly priced cookie cutter bike for clowns. 😆😆
So your getting one congratulations 🎊
