My advice to a new knitter would be: as nice as it is to have the straight needles passed on to you by your mother or grandmother, start using circular needles. I avoided knitting all my life, preferring crochet, because I found knitting slow and awkward with the needles poking into me or sliding out of my work. I was terrified of dropping stitches as I didn't know how to pick them up. After my 70th birthday I was tempted to try knitting again. Watching needle reviews and knitting pidcasts, I chose Addi Classic Lace because they are so smooth, and Knitpro Symphonie because they are so pretty! I love knitting with circulars! I learned so much from TH-cam that I'm now, 2 years later, proficient in so many aspects of knitting including picking up stitches and tinking!
Circular needles are the best!
Super exited to get the pattern for the sweater once it's out!! 😍
💕
I started knitting around 3 months ago - though I’d tried years ago and it never took off like it has this go around.
I love listening to knitting podcasts while I knit. I think one thing I’ve noticed is to not psyche yourself out because a pattern “feels” above your level. I’ve found it motivating to learn and troubleshoot new techniques and patterns (especially using TH-cam). I also find myself wanting to finish things because I’m excited about the thing I’m working on rather than just doing “practice” pieces to get better.
I'm so happy it took off for you this time, it's honestly the best hobby! I agree it is great to troubleshoot, it's the fastest way to learn 😍
I love the design of your brown sweater. Looks cozy and chic. I really like the bell sleeves and funnel neck which I surprisingly don't have in my wardrobe. I look forward to your pattern. Your ranunculus and color choice is beautiful, too! Now, I'm seriously considering making one this Spring. Another great video!
Thank you lovely, I am so glad you like it!
I love the second sample! And enjoyed hearing you talk about the difference between samples, always interesting to hear about the design process.
Thank you!! Yes, I thought showing both would be quite fun :)
I definitely would buy the pattern once you release it, because the shape is lovely and I definitely enjoy the look of the bell sleeves and the fact that the stockinette doesn't roll over is a technique I would love to learn.
Thank you so much lovely, that makes me so happy!! I can’t wait to release this ❤️
I love your self drafted sweater. When you asked for suggestions on the name, the word “Elegance” came to mind. I am excited to see you release the pattern. I can’t wait to make it. Hugs.
Oh my goodness, this is so lovely thank you so much ❤️ I’ll try finishing the grading this weekend!
love the vlog!! definitely have to add Ranunculus to my to-knit list
Thank youuu! Yes do!
Girl that brown sweater of yours is giving me &Other Stories meets COS vibes❤
I agree on watching knitting podcast- If I took one learning was to not be afraid to ask for help on social media to other knitters ( my first garment was sweaterno11 and when I could not visualise it ,since at that point I had only made a hat, I searched the garment in the hashtag and reached a total stranger who became a friend❤)
OMG &Other Stories is my favourite store! It's the best meeting friends through your hobby 💕
I look forward to knitting your first pattern, it’s so classe 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Oh thank you so much 🥹❤️❤️❤️
Wow, you have made beautiful knit! Your spring ranunculus is soooo beautiful! Maybe I will do one too. haha
Thank you 💕💕
Oh wow I love this chocolate colour sweater. CHOCOLATE OBSESSION
Thank you soo muchh 🥰
Thankyou for another amazing episode! Would love to test for the stockinette heaven of a sweater x
Thank you so much 💕 I'll make sure to announce the test call in a video as well!
The design of the brown sweater is beautiful! I agree, I would wait until August or September at this point to release it.
thank you so much!
I did the same thing with the cheaper yarn. So, I have a ton of cheaper yarn. I decided this year use it to crochet pillow cushions and a nice flower Granny Square blanket for my bed.
Great way to use it up!!
i don't think u get it... i neeeeeed that sweater!!! so please do release it in june even if its warm, i would love to test knit it and will be looking out for the test call. its so pretty and i've been wanting to use Isager eco soft, i love it
Oh my goodness stoopp 🥹❤️ this makes me so glad! I will be releasing it as soon as it’s ready, hopefully almost done with grading x
For me being in Australia June is perfect 😂
I also love Lindy Chain from Knitpick - 70% linen and 30% cotton
will check it out!
The little crochet jacket will be so feminine and adorable on you!!
thank youu I cannot wait to finish it!!
Oh 😊 chocolate sweater 🍫 beautiful
I can't knit with big needles like 10mm any more as it makes my hands ache, so aiming for a gauge around 5.5mm means I can consider trying out your beautiful pattern when it goes on sale.
Big needles are commitment for sure! Aw thank you, that makes me so happy!
I also really like hobbi cotton silk yarn
Will be trying hobbi yarn soon, thanks for the suggestion!
I notice that King Cole do a cotton silk yarn (Finesse) with the same structure and length as the Hobbii yarn but less expensive.
the aros sweater by PK is the same as the northland sweater just women’s sizing and with stripes!
ahh amazing, thanks for putting that in the comments!!
I agree about the twisted rib hem on the Ranunculus - it stretches out. I was even considering I-cording all around. But I like your solution. Will you kindly say what is the little non-rolling cast-off you did?
Looks like this: put the stitch a couple rows below on the left needle and then k2tog with the stitch of the final round, repeat.
It's not the best explanation, but hopefully, you got the idea, and now you can Google a video with this technique 😅
The knitting journal idea is inspiring. Am I seeing wrong or is the writing reversed or mirrored?
Yes, my camera films flipped and I never flip it back 😂
Love this podcast! I wish i knew that I dont need straight needles and i could just go with the circular ones, even for non-circular projects... 🧶 had no idea
Thank youu! Yes, circular needles are just the best!
Actually I would love to test knit 🧶 it… I just don’t have an instagram 😌 is there any other way? For me it’s nice for colder evening 😊
Thank you!! I haven’t thought of how to carry out the test knit yet but I will most likely share the test call details in a video 🤗
