Rinat Ibragimov - double bass (Albani, a gift from his friend Alexander Stepanov, Pirastro Eudoxa-solo strings)
Grace Mo - piano
Fun fact: the original piece was written for two double basses. The violin part was transcribed by Camillo Sivori, Paganini's student.

Rinat I have so much respect for you. When you had a stroke and never played again I literally almost gave up my career. You are such a hero to me. I know people who have a personal relationship with you. They say you toke this and turned it positive. Your trying to play the bass again. I really admire and respect you. Just realized that both Alina and Rinat are playing from memory. Playing solo works by memory is one thing but chamber music? And specifically this? Just wow.

I can't imagine anything good for when Alina performed anything but perfect recital growing up, but the smile on their faces and bond they share of music shows us it was all worth it. Their family must be such amazing musicians haha

He's a fabulous bass player, as well as having an amazing bass and bow. He's playing very high harmonics with perfect accuracy, a trait hard to find in any bass players, but Rinat is truly amazing.

I still like this very much, but why not? I gave more attention to the pianist this time. She really did a nice job too. I would imagine that an accompaniment with long stetched of nothing would be difficult.
I'm just going to go cry in a practice room now.

Its those damn violinists who think their instrument is above all others! I'm just kidding, but me as a cellist, I love the double bass

It is not common to find such a taste along with precision in execution in double bassist, cheers to you, sometimes ones sees the Music, behind all that wood and steel and horse hair, sweat and patience.
I've always wanted to play this piece. But this video has showed me that it is impossible.

I don't play violin but somewhere around 3:18 when she hit the harmonic and I started to feel really inadequate

This is absolutely stunning - unbelievable virtuosity from both players in a piece which is quite decent musically too, very much a showpiece but not just that. I don't know when the video was made, but Alina is now 38 and pursuing a concert career of the very greatest distinction. Seeing her live, with an orchestra or playing chamber music with the Chiaroscuro Quartet or the pianist Cedric Tiberghien, is an unforgettable experience. 🎻

I am not a violinist, but a bassist currently working on this piece. This isn't exactly standard rep. like the Koussevitsky and Dittersdorf concertos, but it is quite popular. It is as technically difficult as it is aurally beautiful, which makes it a very rewarding piece to play. I don't know where you are in your playing career, but it makes a great recital piece for college and above.
