The new year is fast approaching and I wanted to squeeze a little vlog in before 2022 hits us!
As you know, Mike and I went to Scotland in July this year and rode R1200/ R1250 GSs through England and up to Scotland.
In this vlog, we leave the wonderful charming town of Ullapool and make our way to Durness on the hunt for Cocoa Mountain! Then from there, we travelled up to John O Groats.
We hit a bit of rain but it wasn't the end of the world.

There's a video floating round all the forums right now about getting a GS off the side stand easier. It's from Motojitsu. If you turn the bars away from you and shift your butt to the right, the bike comes off the side stand with minimal effort. Give it a try folks as it works 👍
In the BMW motorcycle club Scottish Section, we used to hold the Longest Day weekend starting in Blair Atholl on the Fri, ride to Durness on Sat, camp there then ride home to Edinburgh on the Sunday.
The roads have been there fir donkeys years, now for the tourists, the powers that be decided to call it the NC500 !! As though we needed a silly name fir what is Caithness and the North Highlands !! 👍

Loved this series Kate! Scotland is really beautiful, you sure were on some sketchy narrow roads there though.
Yes enjoyed this one Kate with you and Mike zooming through the Scottish highlands on those super GS's. I wish BMW would make a retro bike with this engine in, something like my old BMW R100 RS. Wishful thinking. Still, I have my Triumph Bonneville for now.

Nice one again Kate, a wee tip to make it easier to get the bike off the side stand is turn the bars to the right, the bike will pop up dead easy, us short arses have to use lots of tricks to make life simpler. !!!

@@UsernameKate I just read a post which suggested if you turn your handlebars hard right when astride the bike, its much easier to pull off the side stand. Have yet to try it but it might be worth a try! Happy trails. B

Once again beautiful footage. While I can say I’ve never wrapped a hair around my contact lens I’ve gotten dust or fine dirt under it on occasion, the pain and vision loss is instant and it being the only eye I get vision out of it’s no fun.

Random Col, it was definitely a great trip! That tip I've seen from Motojitsu definitely works, except for if the bike is still a little bit impractically tall and your bike is on a bit of a slope, then there's no saving you, tried first hand today 🤣
The Ceilidh place in Ullapool is great for food, just along from the Caledonian, my pal owns it!

If you want to turn the heated grips on and off without going through the menu, just hold the button down and both grips and seat settings turn off if they are on, then revert to the previous settings on the next long press.

BIKE tip: when you get on a bike that is a bit tall and/or heavy for you - once on pull the handlebars all the way to the right and then lift the bike up and off the side stand. It should feel easier that way. Cheers!
I've recently seen this tip doing the rounds on the GS Facebook pages 👍 it's a great tip and I tried it today at work! The more ya know huh!

I've always at least straitened the handle bars before lifting a bike off of the side stand.
Had 8 days up there on my new V4 multi in August last year with six mates,stayed in same hotel in Ullapool,breakfast was good as you say,visited that bridge also,first time for me in Scotland and absolutely loved it,going back this year hopefully….please no more lockdowns or travel bans 👍

That's a great route, still ok in the wet, but with weather like that at the start, it's lovely to be able to make the most of those bends.
We were lucky at Kyelesku bridge, I managed to catch a stag on the drone footage. He was just down over the edge from where you were stopped.
Shame you dipped out at Cocoa Mountain, lovely coffee and hot choccy. We were up there in June and due to Covid, they were told they couldn't have people inside, so we had to have takeaway. I hope it's not had to close permanently, that place is legendary.
Shame you had a bit of the wet stuff across the top, but it always seems to rain up there. I'm sure those mallows and cream made up for it.
I'll defo take a look!! haha. Catching a stag on camera, that is pretty cool! And I know! I hope it's not closed foreverrrr :(

Hi just a very good tip for you Kate Ive a bmw gsa and the easiest way to get the bike off the side stand is turn the steering to the right your be amazed how easy it is just try you’ll see what I mean 🙏🙏👍🏻

Fan from across the pond! Started watching your channel because I've been considering a GS. Currently ride a 690 enduro R and as much off road as possible. The KTM is great off road but long miles on pavement get really long!!! I went and looked at a GS, just looked, and HOLLY F..... its like sitting on a small car. The 690 is about as skinny as you get and the GS is, well, not skinny. And heavy! My brain goes from pretty confident to, first time ride instantly.
My question is should I get a newer one and hope to learn to feel confident, or get an older one because I'm going to drop, drop, drop, drop... it? I don't want to ride the GS off-road like the 690, but would like to camp off the bike on long multi-state trips. That would mean some dirt roads. Oh, 60yrs old, 5'7" (173cm). Thanks for any thoughts.

I use a gopro 10 with a media mod on my chin, teamed with a lapel microphone (mine is purple panda) 😊

Hello and happy new year! What would you recommend? For 1,70cm A GSA With low Seat? or GSA With Low Suspension and Heated and low Seat as an extra option.
If your inner leg measurement is less than 74cm, I'd DEFINITELY recommend a chassis lowered GSA. The GSAs are bloody tall! I only ride them if they're factory lowered as it makes life much easier 👍
