Greetings and thanks to the Paizo crew for giving us some insight. Cant wait for Starfinder 2e. Special greetings towards Thurston, love your GMing especially concerning a certain group of chuckle-fucks.
This open playtest is a cool idea. Some thoughts: -Soldier seems to struggle a bit, though her die rolls could account for that. I am very interested in their ability to suppress I'd love to see a bombard using a grenade launcher or something like that that does burst AOE's from range. -Envoy seems very appealing to me. I didn't quite like Envoy in SF1 though I liked the idea, but this more active Envoy is appealing especially with those really interesting reactions. -Solarian is interesting, but I'm afraid of how frustrating it might be to keep track of the solarian states switching after every attack. If each form grants more and more things piling on top of other things it could get out of hand. -The life network or whatever that the mystic has is really interesting. It reminds me of a more fluid and perhaps easier to use version of the Psychic's Restore the Mind. I like that they can heal without having to focus on being a healer, freeing them up to do other more interesting things. Some rules points: -Bioelectric Jolt was listed as 2 actions, but the first two times Thurston used it as if it was one action: move, attack, Bioelectric Jolt in one case; attack, attack Bioelectric Jolt in another case which was a total of 4 actions. Later on he used it again but only took 2 actions (move, Bioelectric Jolt). Then later he said it was 1 action. So not sure if there was a change that was being tested. Like, maybe instead of 2 actions can always use it to 1 action but recharges after so many turns. -2:45:30 Thurstun is aiming a line. He starts the line in the middle of a square and ends it in the middle of another square hitting all three PC's. I'm not sure you can aim it like that. There are examples given, and none of the shown lines start or end in half a space. If this was working at intended, there needs to be some clarity about lines in the rules. No other AOE works like this by the way. A 10 foot burst only effects the first diagonal square even though it technical would extend three feet into the second diagonal square, so I cant see how a line in half a square effects the PC. I know it might be a little pedantic about these rules clarifications, but as this is a playtest it should adhere as close to the rules as possible otherwise you'll be basing your conclusions on bad information.
The Line was actually written as 1-action, I just copy/pasted a 2-action ability to make it work in Foundry. So the action token shown was wrong. It's a 1-action ability with a 1d4 recharge.
I'd love to watch this but the difference in audio levels between GM and players makes it impossible - I can barely hear players while GM is way too loud
Interesting. A few remarks: - Solarion is Photonic or Graviton? Reminds me of the Massari from Universe at War. - Soldier is as you wrote him in the field test - Mystic sounds like the Cleric. With healing and Spirit Damage - Envoy gets to move allies and debuff enemies, but also "Lead by example". - Strider Leap (29:10) seems like a worse Quick Jump. Which pre-remaster is a Level 1 Skill Feat. Something worse then a skill feat? Seems like a waste of sheet space :) - Leg Blade (42:00) Bleed on a normal attack hit, no special ability? That seems very busted! If the Idea was to make "Administer First Aid" more useful, it does the opposite. You would just bleed again next hit. So there is 0 incentive to stop the bleed until all enemie are downed. - that "Aim" action seems new. I wonder if it is specific to that weapon, or a general action? - Invisibility (1:04:05) if you go invisible while obsereved, you only go to hidden - not undetected. Until you actually sneak to another square.
Leg Blades are absolutely busted as I ran it, but only if it was run against a CR appropriate party. It was more to just see how the party could do against a mass of persistent damage (which is a test unto itself).
@@OnCallGM The behavior I expect would be: "Don't bother to remove it, you get it back next hit anyway." But I guess it adds some urgency to the combat. "Finish it fast, before you literally bleed out." I only watched the first 80 minutes thus far.
The game is currently in more of an 'alpha' test phase - the Field Tests are made to give everyone a view of what's happening behind the scenes, rather than provide playtest material for feedback and running games or campaigns. When the Playtest Rulebook comes out next Summer, there will be more classes, ancestries, and options for full playtesting.
hmm looking at this its just scifi pathfinder instead of its own thing? seems like they removed some of the uniqueness like stamina and other fun things
they are definitely really early in the process, so it’s just possible they are still figuring out different ideas. PF2 does have a stamina point system as a variant, so who knows! i’m confident that paizo would love to hear from you and your SF buddies in some form of feedback!
@@funionsflagons7844 unfortunately i dont like pathfinder 2e as a whole the way they word things are confusing and the way classes are done feel weird i never have a good idea of what i can or cant do which makes me not want to do it at all in fear of doing it wrong
Starfinder was great for the ones that wanted to try something different than Pathfinder, wanted more complexity than D&D 5e, and were not really into Pathfinder 2e. Seems all this is gone, and now Starfinder is only Pathfinder in space. All the uniqueness of this amazing setting are lost in space for no special reason... Do we really need so soon Stafinder 2e?
Remember why they're doing this. A certain SRD is now a ticking time bomb. Making the new system distinct from "that", and bringing it closer to their own brand makes for safer handling moving forward. Further Distinction can be refined over time. PF2E remaster got a pretty big revamp in a few areas. And its not like they've never released revisions and rulings for things.
Hey, um, sorry to remind you of this, but: -isn’t it still different to pathfinder? - if you believe pf2e more complex than dnd5e, starfinder 2e should persist being more complex, no? - I mean, this one is kinda true, but it is still not pf2e. The classes are different enough (the same way as it was with the 1e), the races are still there, the combat seems to still favor ranged combat. The things that I’ll miss are the stamina system and the KAC and EAC, but I won’t be surprised if those are in optional rules. Just to be sure - not hating, I’m just new to sf overall , and want to learn what’s wrong with the new edition.

I'm very happy one of the characters is a Solarion since I like playing that class in Society scenarios.

didn’t find it too bad myself but agreed.
This was fantastic and very exciting!
So great the playtest is so open. 😊

would love to have a Starfinder pdf importer for Foundry VTT, if anyone knows of a solution for that...
Dont mind me, just being super jealous of the folks playing Starfinder 2 alpha.
I'm here cause it's Thurston.
SOOOOOO HYPED for Starfinder 2e !! :)
Hey! When are we getting starfinder tokens for Foundry VTT???
Please release at least 5 classes so we can actually test! Most groups are like 4-5 people right? We don't have enough classes to start a campaign

Well done, I'm so unused to sensible discourse on TH-cam I couldn't help but comment my respect

Are you using the Starfinder Game system on Foundry? Where did you get or how did you configure the Stat Blocks?
Or perhaps the PF2e game system....
