BTW, here is Elijah's review on Amazon: "Mayhem in the Morra" was one of the best opening books that I've ever read. This book's attitude reminds me of Aron Nimzowitsch's attitude in his classic book "My System", where he claims to have proven himself correct despite much ridicule and skepticism throughout the years. Esserman also has this attitude - he inserts many quotes from masters who thought the Morra was unsound, often proving them wrong as he goes. The theoretical sections were relatively persuasive, I was convinced that the Smith-Morra Gambit is sound, at least against current mainline theory and against the supposed refutations advocated by GM Ben Finegold, IM Timothy Taylor, IM Jeremy Silman, and the other masters who tried to refute the Morra. Perhaps the Morra gambit is unsound, but if it is, theory hasn't yet proven it. Not only does IM Marc Esserman aim to prove the Morra gambit sound, he also organizes this book like a practical guide, repeatedly drawing attention to and explaining specific strategic and dynamic elements of the position. I especially liked how he kept pointing out recurring themes, helping patterns stick. "Mayhem in the Morra" was also a very entertaining read, sprinkled by various anecdotes and James Bond quotes. I recommend this book to all players who want to learn the Smith-Morra up to GM level (positive reviews by GM Loek Van Wely and GM Larry Christiansen imply that GMs can learn from this book) as well as players who want to improve their understanding of Sicilian structures, sacrifices, and chess dynamics. As an expert (2119 USCF), I found this book to be useful for far more than learning Smith-Morra theory.
I've been hearing the name marc esserman for years always just with the context that he wrote a book on the morra... I'm so happy i finally looked him up this dude is such a legendary character rofl im instantly in love
If your "feud" with Elijah ever comes to a match, don't expect an opponent that is 2100 USCF. Elijah's rating lags far behind his ability. Even Nakamura has commented that he is a dangerous blitz opponent. Objectively you are probably the favorite, but you will be better off if you forget about "2100".
@@advaysant5066 Elijah Logazar, a guy who publishes many different courses on chessable, claiming they're refutations when they're really not. To be fair, he's a very prepared player, but it's sort of false advertising that he does.
@@Isaac-bb3pj I agree with you. E.g. when he published his "Morra Refuation" he completely overlooked that after 6...Nge7 White can just play 0-0 instead of Bg5 and go with the idea of h4! with a great initiative.
After the early 6...Nge7 you don't play 7. Bg5 but just 7. 0-0 and from there on Black can either transpose into the main line with 7...a6 or play 7...Ng6 and you play 8. h4! with a huge initiative and the computers gives 0.00 at depth 50.

That music is so damn perfect! Side note: Just received the book and super pumped to begin this exploration!
This Matrix soundtrack hits different while crushing your opponent. 😁

Why do you no longer use this catch phrase? 🐅🐅🐅
Hey Marc, can you give a reply to the repertoire on Chessable claiming to have debunked your Morra gambit book?

Obnoxious and annoying.
