Tremors is my favorite movie ever. This was a lot of fun to see someone see it for the first time! It's a solid film that's a wonder film study in how the scenes play out, the characters, how seemingly non-event things come back (the cooler making noise early on, then dooming Chang, Earl looking like a graboid in his sleeping bag falling out of the truck because of "Stampede!").
To answer a few of your questions and some comments and fun facts (because I know a ridiculous amount of information about this movie): Val (Kevin Bacon) took Rhonda's (Finn Carter) shoes off right before and as he yelled for her to get out of her pants. He yanks them off.
Also S.S. Wilson (writer, second unit director) specifically stated they put her in the most boring underwear possible because it wasn't done just to see a pants-less woman, it was more about showing the graboids, and what was or wasn't affective (Nester said he'd "hit 'em with a five pound pickaxe." to which he's shot down, and they show it's basically barely effective.
The graboids moving across the ground effect was achieved by burying a buoy attached to a cable and dragging in via truck along a track. It worked so well they sometimes lost where the buoy was.

They're in the fictional Perfection, Nevada (filmed on location in Lone Pine, CA), Val and Earl pass by the Welcome To Perfection and tiny population listing sign early on in the movie.
They went back and shot the ending kiss scene long after wrapping, because test screenings where the audience chanted "Kiss her, kiss her!".
And because it's a common question (rightfully so)- Nester is Melvin's uncle. Melvin's parents regularly dump him off and go to gamble in Vegas (never made it into the final script).
The practical effects were done by Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. (ADI)- they also did the aliens for Alien, the original Thing, and a ton of great stuff.
It was Reba's first acting role. (I think she nailed it).
S.S. Wilson's channel Real Deal Productions has a ton of behind the scenes footage and commentary, I highly recommend it!
Tremors 2: Aftershocks is really fun and a very good sequel. I recommend watching it. The rest... eh... well... Three's okay, nothing compared to the first two. Four is a prequel in which Michael Gross plays his character's own grandfather (Hiram Gummer). So... that's a trip. 5 - 7 are pretty bad. Michael Gross does return for all of them, though, so that's cool.
tr:dr: Tremors is my favorite movie and I know a ton about it and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Rhonda didn't take her shoes off, Val took them off while she was undoing her pants.

That early scene where he shakes the truck and the guy falls out in the sleeping bag is such a great intro to the film. It's a lil preview of the creature and the struggle!

It was just going around the outside when the car alarm went off and attacked the car because it heard the alarm.

This movie was a Homage to all of those 1950's B-movies in the monster genre.

Well, if that's the case, I think it did a great job. I feel like this movie inspired some others after it as well.

I just realized I have never seen this film, only the sequels (which get even crazier). I have seen Evolution though.
Also, you are exactly 12 years, 10 months, and 8 days older than me.

Lmao geez, I'm starting to realize I'm old because I vividly remember 2003 like it was yesterday 😂.

Yea, I was saying if cell phones were a thing or if they remade it in today's time, a cellphone would have helped. I probably could have said it better.

I think you're reading a lot of intent into the barbed wire scene than was actually there. Did you notice the resemblance between Walter's death scene and Quint's in 'Jaws?' Or maybe I'M reading intent that wasn't there.

You might be right. I'll be honest. I have seen jaws, but I can't remember any of the death scenes lol. Thank you for your comment

If you enjoyed tremors and evolution you might try eight legged freaks

    • @DevonRucker
      @DevonRucker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Eight legged freaks was incredible. I think I might have seen that one before I watched evolution as a kid. I haven't thought about that movie in at least 15 years lol. Maybe I can do a throwback rewatch or something 🤔.

I will definitely add them to a poll. I really did enjoy this one, so I wouldn't mind seeing how the series goes from here.

🤔?? When did I say movies were better now? I spent most of the reaction talking about how much I miss the 90s practical effects. I still appreciate your comment.
