Oh Im really glad! This one is for making the artwork in Photoshop: th-cam.com/video/UrFq5KliP04/w-d-xo.html Please let me know if there's other information you need - I am always taking suggestions!
I haven't used this video yet but this is the exact kind of tutorial I have been trying to find for years, so thank you. You explain it very simple in little steps and that's easy for me to follow (I'm someone who knows zero about any digital program such as photoshop). Thank you so much. Up until now I have always worked by hand with the riso, meaning I would have to trace my image on a seperate paper in all the different colors I wanted which is a lot of work. But I'm exited to try this color separation in photoshop (I've tried to ask the people that worked with the riso machine at the place I print, but they don't understand what I mean, and say it can't be done to separate colors from one image.. pff!!)
Omg!!! Thank you! Please try also my color separations tutorial in Photoshop here: th-cam.com/video/UrFq5KliP04/w-d-xo.html This shows how to start an illustration in Photoshop. The CMYK tutorial is if you already have a colour illustration but need to separate the colours. So you can try it both ways to see which results you like better. :-) I really appreciate this comment!!
Thanks for this tutorial. I saw it a couple years ago, and looked for it again when I wanted to double-check how to convert a photo into a halftone file for Risograph. I will print only in black, but it is interesting how you do the color separations with different angles, shapes, etc. I'd like to try that sometime.
Very very helpfull + the tip of making a simulation on screen is amazing ! I'm a graphic designer, and thanks to you I've just discovered a new way to make images… so THANKS A LOT
Hello! I'm trying this tutorial to convert an somewhat detailed already made illustration that has colours and lineart in photoshop and just can't seem to get the colours right (coming up off and bland). I also don't have a Mac so I can't access Spectrolite and am a bit stuck! Do you have any advice on how you'd do this differently if it were an illustration rather than a photo?
Hi! I followed the tutorial exactly but my end result looks like a brownish yellow mesh of colors where you can vaguely see the original image... any ideas why this might be happening? Thank you!
Hi, I did this tutorial a while ago and it made a perfect riso preview. Now when I've come back to it I can't seem to make it work the same way and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. The colours keep coming out really dull and muddy instead of true to the original image. Do you have any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Thanks!
Hi, not sure without seeing the actual file but if I had to guess, I am wondering if you are copying the channel layer correctly? You must ensure in the Layers panel that only the original image is visible before going back to the Channels panel to grab c, m, y, or k layers...
Thanks for this tutorial! Are there any good tips on registering each layer? My risograph is only done through the scanner bed and I'm finding it hard to register things up tightly
this is awesome and very helpful as I am hoping to start experimenting with riso printing... one problem i am having though when creating the bitmaps is that when i get to the rasterize layer step ( at about 14:00 in the video, and yes i am particularly interested in doing these halftone style prints!) , the rasterize tab is greyed out/not clickable... I've looked and looked and cannot figure out what is preventing this step aghhh help pleeease!!
Hmm please try this video at 3:32: th-cam.com/video/kooMP5yzEfM/w-d-xo.html I did this more recently and i think i am more step-by-step here. Please let me know if it works for you...
@@kitetsustation I just tried this and I have this same exact problem. Followed all the steps, I think, and "rasterize" is greyed out for all layers. Weird. (Update: now I find that, though I cannot do the rasterize step, I can still multiply one layer at a time, and if I multiply a given layer, the layer under it is seen in combo with the layer over it, as intended. So if I multiply the top two layers I see the top three layers combined. And the top layer color seems to dominate and modify the color or colors under it. [which is how it's supposed to go?]. The only thing I wonder about though is that I can only see an image built from maximum three colors, though my file has 4 color layers. The bottom, 4th color layer will not be seen. But anyway I think I was kind of able to make this work, and it's very cool. But the thing that differs from what you do in the video is that, as said, I cannot rasterize, and also, if I select more than one layer at a time, the entire blend mode menu greys out, so I can't multiply. Can only multiply one layer at a time.
@@kitetsustation Thanks for the response. I was partly just putting this out there to compare notes/discoveries with the previous commenter or anyone else who had this issue, and also looping you in in case you had any thoughts. I get that you don't have enough info though. Not expecting a troubleshooting session. Maybe I'll message you to see if you want to check out the file, but I certainly don't expect that. Thanks for the video! As I say, I'm actually starting to get some exciting results (which would otherwise be way beyond me), but just had to do a couple of things differently at the end, for whatever reason.
Good video. Suppose you wanted to create a deliberately misaligned print, so that the color layers or channels were not quite lined up with each other correctly. Any thoughts on a way to do that?

Great tutorial, thank you! Done lot's of riso before, but excited to try out color separations. So awesome that you're based in Oakville!
Thanks for the kind note! I don’t really do print ‘jobs’ anymore tho!! Good luck!

Beyond making reg marks on the print and lining them up as best as you can with the arrow buttons, I’m not sure.
Great help, thanks!
Thank you!
do you have a step by step guide on how to setup a one color file using Illustrator (vector) for Riso by chance?

Is it possible CMYK on single drum machine if we print one color after one?
Good video. Suppose you wanted to create a deliberately misaligned print, so that the color layers or channels were not quite lined up with each other correctly. Any thoughts on a way to do that?
Thanks! You can always select the layer and use the selection tool to move or nudge it to desired location.

If you do multiple passes you can try to get it close but it won't look the same and the registration will more likely than not be off.

when I'll do rasterize they're turning in grey-scales although the image is in RGB - can anyone help?
watch me having finished a whole illustration book and THEN deciding to Riso print it 😫 omw to separate channels for all 160 pages........🥲
