"Colonel, get the Ru-" See, here's how I would've made the story. If you are able to shoot off Guts' canopy you'll get the "good" ending that's in the game. However, if you mess up and he dies, you don't fail the mission and get a "bad" ending.
Even though I disliked the rest og the game and its story, I loved this mission because of how well linked it was the the first, and the music kicking in at 6:15 made it feel reminiscent of how the Valley of Kings played out in Zero - in the way it made you feel like an Ace. Awesome.

I wonder what could be left of the pilot or crew when one of those planes is shot from the sky and the back section of the plane explodes. Or when they crash. At least, old birds up until the 1950's still mostly left something to be identifiable. But now?
I was sad when Chopper died. I was pissed when PJ died. I was sad when Shamrock lived (I just found him to be annoying.) I was happy I could save Guts. Then I was sad that I couldn't save the first two in my list. Also, it was a total Ace Combat Zero moment at 13:42. This game is made of pure win. Best AC so far.
Shooting the canopy off like that in real life would kill the pilot. You couldn't possibly ensure enough accuracy, even if it could work. Ejection seats also don't fail like that...worse case, Guts could have used his sidearm to shoot the canopy himself.
@Mustang84211 +1, even the way he take the hit is exactly like PJ. But using the gatling to shoot off the canopy?! That is unreal man! That is like threading a needle two meters away from you. Talk about high budget hollywood action movie aircraft version.
@MEAxMasterElite my next target once completed the rookie after the pilot is elite yes i am doing the easier after midway to get some simple training for the full on cruise into the ultimate challenge
@heliosis01 Shamrock wasn't the only ally that pissed me off in AC6, Avalanche, Windhover, and Skykid were also annoying. Although I was glad to see them in mission 12 XD

This game could've benefitted from a large aerial forttress. Instead of Trinity being the MacGuffin (russian nukes are so cliché), imagine if the NRF had developed a large aerial forttress like the Aigaion or the Hresvelgr. Hell, Ace Combat Joint Assault is also set in the real world and they had two! the Spiridus and Orgoi.
i enjoy your walkthrough, although sometimes you skip few parts of the mission, i didnt buy the game yet so ya. you arent those crappy rookies i see on all kinds of walkthroughs, and i bet you've played the old ace combat games. whats your gamertag?

8 years later: I was sad when Sol 2 and Wiseman died in Ace Combat 7 and pissed I couldn’t save Brownie

I think they wanted to revive the feel of two true rivals battling against eachother. It sort of didn't work.
