    All the people thinking this is Jenkins, it’s not. You see a marine with a boonie run away in the video that Chief watches from Jenkins helmet. Jenkins is infected and gone. This is a different marine. Play the game again or look up the video itself.

      That is correct, Jenkins still had control of his body at times and was in terrible pain and was able to warn survivors about a flood attack coming if I remember correctly

This would be like pointing out in this game they were more than waking up;the flood didn't have a gravemind to lead them more effectively and the one they did have was with an unwilling host who held out until chief killed both him and he gravemind which assimilated. Only real changes they made were in that LIVING people didn't often die when infected by the flood they keep em alive until there's no longer any use meaning in the games we wouldn't have been hearing *just* the sounds the flood made but theirs hosts ACTIVELY asking to put outta their misery.

  • @KittysInu
    @KittysInu หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    There are 2 seperate explanations, one is no fun IRL stuff and the other is a roughly pieced together fan theory the community came up with to explain it.
    The IRL explanation is that Bungie had nothing planned for Halo 2 or 3. They had no idea where they were going to go with the flood, covenant, or anything because they didnt even know if the game was gonna get a sequel. At the time, flood only did live hosts. Even the marine with the pistol says he played dead to survive. When Halo 2 got greenlit, someone apparently said "hey, know what would be cool? If the flood could reanimate all the bodies in game." And everyone cheered and said "do it!"
    Bungies philosophy for the Halo trilogy was "If its cool we're gonna do it, continuity and lore comes second." They were more worried about us having fun than anything else.
    The in lore fan theory/explanation is that the flood were using that facility to ambush and infect more hosts before they attempted to escape the ring. Either through the protogravemind they were making or the gravemind on Halo 2 influencing them, they had enough intelligence to know they needed more numbers before starting a full outbreak. So they left some survivors and bodies as bait for others to come. When the covenant or UNSC attempts a rescue, the flood could ambush them.
    The fan theory doesnt really fit with typical flood behavior, and the Flood on CE were still in the late Feral stage at this point. But like i said the real reason is Bungie wanted to make the flood cooler in Halo 2 than they were in CE. So there are a few points in the games where you have to fill the gaps in yourself and some retcons you have to accept for a better gaming experience

      That doesn't make sense though because even in the game as your progress through 343 Guilty Spark you see evidence that they're collecting dead bodies. There's a whole elevator caked in Grunt Blood and you didn't make that happen. What's likely is he managed to somehow seal himself in the room, or he literally just died as chief opened the door, because bodies don't just stay standing up.

    • @KittysInu
      @KittysInu หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sorrenblitz805 the bodies show up when you go deeper into the installation, the only ones you see going in are a few in the hallways and one big group in a room that is barricaded, which looked like it couldve been just a last stand that failed. Couldve been the captain's group every time.
      You see all the rest when the flood spring their ambush.
      But again, there is no real reason. Its fans trying to explain away one of Bungies changes to the flood because no other real explanation exists.
      Howd they get the bodies out of the locked room then propped him up on the locked door? Who locked the door? Couldnt be mendoza, cause the flood removed the captains body after the ambush.
      There are a bunch of theories, thats the simplest and easiest one to accept. If you dig too deeply, youre always gonna find an inconsistency. And youre never gonna get a real answer.

    • @KittysInu
      @KittysInu หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sorrenblitz805 as far as your theory goes, what killed him if he just died? No flood are loose in the room when Chief enters. Theyre all locked in side rooms waiting.
      If he sealed himself in the room earlier than that, then why didnt the flood attack him like they did the Captains group, and later Chief?
      Why didnt they immediately take his body, why leave it at the door and not infect it? Its a single body, not a grouping...
      Your answers have just as many holes as mine. Thus is the nature of retcons

    It may have been part of the Flood's larger strategy. Even in the feral stage the Flood are not just a mob of zombies, they think and plan for the long game. A theory I've seen is that the Flood was actively trying to bait reinforcements and rescue parties into an ambush to acquire more hosts, which is why they didn't immediately attack when observing you outside the facility. Leaving bodies and survivors may have been done to deceive rescuers into a false sense of urgency, which creates conditions for mistakes and greater success in their ambush.

    "A few hours after infection, John-117 found Mendoza in the structure and attempted to communicate with the Marine, unaware that his consciousness had already been taken over by the Pod infector, as John-117 hadn't seen a human Flood combat form until then. The infected Mendoza attacked the Spartan and took three entire shells from the Master Chief's Shotgun to halt him, with the results both "spectacular and disgusting". As the corpse-like horror came apart, the Spartan saw that one of the small, spherical creatures had taken up residence inside the Marine's chest cavity and seemed to have extended its tentacles into other parts of what used to be Mendoza's body"

    To clear the record, that body IS Jenkins. The Aniversary version introduced a continuity error by replacing his model with a hat wearing one. If you watch the same cutscene in the Original graphics, you'll see that he is wearing a helmet like he is supposed to be. Which, making changes that hurt the overall experience is a common problem with Aniversary in general tbh. This level particularly suffers due to the bright textures of the "remaster" ruining what is supposed to be a shadowy, dark level. Utterly kills the suspense and build up. Another rather halarious example is in the Library where they added fake walls to a bunch of the level geometry out of what i can only assume to be laziness.
    Anyways, although Jenkins doesn't look infected here, that's actually a lie. He IS infected, but the one that got him was sleepy and weakened from mellinia of hibernation, so the infection prossess is taking a LOT longer than the near instant it should be. He later wakes up, fully infected, and does some stuff before dying when the Truth and Reconciliation explodes near the end of the book.

    I liked the story when it was from Halo CE and nothing else. I liked it better when The Flood were just some horrific species from some dark corner of the universe, and the Forerunners were just some ancient extinct species. It was better when it had some mystery about it.

    In the Halo novel, The Flood, Jenkins is reanimated, captured by UNSC forces and questioned. Some idiot major thinks Jenkins can be cured, or at least vivisected for study. Jenkins has just enough of his mind intact to try and communicate, but goes ignored. When the major has the Pillar of Autumn's survivors take over the Covenant ship Truth and Reconciliation, Jenkins tries to smash a control conduit to crash the ship, knowing thst the Flood onboard can wipe out Earth. A lieutenant takes a grenadenand blows up the conduit, killing the Pillar of Autumn survivors, but saving Earth from a massive flood infestation.

    If you think about it, idk how much lore you know with the flood. Technically this is the first encounter with humans for the flood since rings got activated. Humans are not as evolved as they were during human forerunner war. The flood consumes all memories/knowlege, they don’t reanimate dead. That’s why in the video log with keys he’s repeating his serial number as the gravemind is getting tactical information on everything, piloting, maps, location, defense and weapons. He was repeating that number to prevent knowledge going to the enemy

    I always believed that they have the choice, and the flood as a hive mind is a bit of a drama queen.
    There's also the fact that some people's immune systems have enough of a resistance that even if they do get infected there's a chance that they won't turn so long as they survive, or so long as the flood is not the thing that kills them.

    • @bucktastic0072

    this is the beginnings of a flood outbreak. the feral stage. they arent coordinated, they just attack anything that moves, all theyre focused on is infection. its very random, but one of the things they are also searching for while spreading the infection is to locate a suitable host for their gravemind. in combat evolved, it was captain keyes, who fought the flood pretty much until the chief finds him and kills him, taking his neural lace. it does slow down their progress, but they seem to have already found another host for their proto gravemind. in halo 2, theyre at the end of the coordinated stage. theyre able to pump supercells into the atmosphere, breathing the flood contaminated air is supposed to be instant flood transformation. they no longer need the biomass, they are highly intelligent, using the gravemind to coordinate their attacks and can create their own forms. we see that in halo 3. however, during the great schism, the flood manages to commandeer the In Amber Clad and crashes it into high charity, where they quickly and effectively take over in just a few hours. this is when they reach the interstellar stage. they can travel to other planets and infect them too. after that, is the trans galactic stage. which has not been seen in modern halo. the scary thing is that there could be hundreds of galaxies that have been completely consumed by the flood, yet they avoid revealing themselves at this stage. its intentional. once theyre at the trans galactic stage, they have access to much faster means of travel

      @@bucktastic0072 I don't quite remember those events, mainly because I don't play Halo wars. However, I think that because of how advanced the flood was at the time we fired installation 04-B (the new ring at the end of halo 3) they must've gone into a hibernation state. I don't know if we have anything on this yet, because the only other flood gravemind that may have survived, only in consciousness mind you, but we don't know. It became a gravemind. We know that. It may have been the same gravemind we face in halo 2 and 3. It's hard to say

    A little late, but in the lore the ancient humans attempted to genetically modify their population to be flood resistant. I cant remember how well it worked, but some of the population they modified might have been indexed by the librarian. If so when the universe was reseeded humans with flood resistance may have still existed and passed on the trait. Possible theory only.

      @bucktastic0072 it was not. Keeping the lore straight is the single thing 343 has done well. At the games creation, I'm sure it was simply a way to make the scene more scary and mysterious. However, now, we have the gift of hindsight and new lore to show it is a possible explanation.
