that sounds genius & what if it had restaurant & social place recommendations too based off of your allergies that you select on a list that’s saved to your profile + alerts when a products formula changes to state they either added or removed an allergen. It would also need a disclaimer to always double check everything just in case, but that’s such a great idea.
I think the more important issue is having people be aware of what triggers their own allergies. Bringing awareness to allergies themselves may sound good in theory but realistically won’t change the way other people/companies operate as a whole, as it would be near impossible to change their practices due to a small percentage of people who are affected by one ingredient. It makes more sense to have these people do the proper research in order to know what to avoid coming into contact with.
allthingsbgi I think that’s great but very unrealistic. It’s our duty as patients to do our due diligence and research products/check labels in order to avoid something that may trigger our allergies. For example, I have a brain tumor and have 2 machines that keep my brain functioning properly. They have magnets inside of them and even just being under high voltage power lines can and will shut them off. I had 6 brain surgeries due to them malfunctioning and it was only until I did research and found that my blow dryer contained magnets, causing my machines to stop working. It was my fault for not researching the products I use, not the fact that there isnt awareness about this topic. So while this does make sense, we should always be checking to make sure that a product is safe to use on our own body
Since all these people with food PREFERENCES came about, it became harder to take it serious. (i still do, we still do) i had a lady tell me she was terribly allergic to gluten, so we made sure we were careful with her plate. eventually, i see her picking off her husband's burger plate.. its frustrating.
I can sympathize and understand how you would take it personally bc you see your loved one suffering. But you really cant be too mad with strangers, they have no obligation to your brother. Just as you dont care about my blood clots and poor circulation in my legs.. just being blunt here not rude.
One of my very dear friends was deathly allergic to lavender. I had no idea that lavender permeates EVERYTHING in our day-to-day lives. She literally couldn't go to the grocery store and not just because of the laundry detergent aisle. Shampoo, detergent, cleaning products, scented candles, everything that is manufactured and has a scent, no matter what that scent is, uses lavender. Unfortunately, anaphylaxis eventually took her life when we were in our 30s. We need more allergy awareness. Period.
I read an article about someone with this allergy once, and the way people treated her for it was just disgusting. She was a teacher, and her students would deliberately spray lavender aerosols to make her react, and the more times that happened, the more sensitive and severe her allergies became Those kids were genuinely risking her life itself as a joke.
Having a lavender allergy is the worst. Mine is only mild so I just get itchy and breathless around it and rashes if it makes contact with my skin. Schools are the worst place to deal with it too. During the big school run we had to go next to a lavender field eventhough they promised they would change the route for me. Ended up passing out. Fun times.
People have made a habit of dismissing allergies. Like 'oh, too bad' or 'I'm sure it's fine, you're overreacting' when really they need to be taken much more seriously. Someone's flippancy could be the cause of someone else's extreme suffering and/or death.
For some reason, peanut allergies are generally taken seriously but nothing else is. I luckily don’t have any food allergies, but I do have severe cat allergies, and most people assume it means a stuffy nose and watery eyes not hives and possible death.
exactly, even if some allergies aren't life threatening it is still extremely uncomfortable to be having an allergic reaction and it's generally frustrating and people don't realize :(
My Dad still doesn't take any of my allergies seriously and constantly tries to push my limits by cooking with higher than normal quantities of my allergens. He has seen my reactions after he does his "experiments" and always apologizes in the moment but will always do it again in a few days. Thankfully my Mom understands and is always prepared with benadryl and my other fast reacting allergy meds.
I have a severe nut allergy too and that comment about not feeling safe eating somewhere based on the reaction on staff is MASSIVE!! Some people don't realise that their reaction to me asking about allergens can be so off putting when they say things like "I think you'll be fine" it's so hard to go through with trying the food when you leave doubt about it!!
Restaurants need to train their servers better to know which dishes have allergens and which ones don’t. I think So is the nice way to say I don’t know.
I can't event bye any. they're just like, "sorry, they did a recall, we are waiting for the new ones in stock" I've only owned my own epi-pen once (im 15) and the formula expired years ago. since then none were available. when I finally did get to a point where I need the injection my nurse wouldn't even do it. she said she did not know-how. I was too delirious to focus my strength. so my English teacher had to do it. ... and all the way up until the day I graduated she tried to make me replace the school's backup pen. knowing there were none available. she even tried to hold back my report card and diploma, which means I wouldn't have graduated middle school... like wtf?
Little Pocket Studios that’s so stupid. You can’t even replace one of those. It’s not like you just run to the store and buy it, they have to be prescribed and can only be used by the person they are prescripteur for unless a littéral emergency situation. Not to mention the state covers the cost for school épipens
I had my backpack stolen and my epipens were in it. That was the second scariest thing to lose after my inhaler, but the inhaler didn’t even take 24 hrs to replace. The epipen took several days, and I live in a huge city.
I’m allergic to fresh fruits, shellfish, cats, dogs, have seasonal allergies, and randomly break out in hives. People act like I inconvenience them all the time. Like sorry me possibly dying annoys you 🙄. Also have sensitive skin so gotta be careful with products that contain fragrance.
Sounds like my sister she allergic to shell fish, pork, cats, dogs, milk, grass, many lotion, soaps and seasonal allergies and will break into hives at random but we adapted to her.
I'm interested to know why fresh fruits? Is it all fresh fruits or just some? Cab you eat canned fruit since it's not fresh? and Are you sure it's not the pesticides used on the fruits you are reacting too?
Jumin Han since I have seasonal allergies I’m allergic to pollen so the skin of most fruits have pollen on them. Tried peeling the skin but I still have a reaction. It’s called oral allergy syndrome.
I don’t have allergies but I travel on airplanes several times a year and I was given peanuts on a flight for the first time in a couple years and it was so jarring. The entire plane stank of nuts so I can’t imagine how terrible that must be for people with allergies to be so afraid
that why when I travel i request that no nuts or peanuts are served on the airplane. Airlines are usually okay with that, but there have been times they were less understanding and basically told me to just stop flying.
Yeah it’s very scary, that’s why I always have my parent or whoever is traveling with me wipe down my entire seat and try and everything with disinfectant wipes and then ask the people next to me to please not get peanuts
It throws me in a panic. I don't have a sever enough allergy for it to be a "medically notified" thing. Its like rancid perfume to me. Also some perfumes i'm allergic too as well...so thats always fun. Movie theaters if the person gets something with peanut butter or peanuts...I started bringing scarfs with me to cover my nose and mouth.
Make one of mental health illnesses. I have depression, anxiety and ADHD. Two years ago I had many issues , I had panic attacks , I had suicidal thoughts, and I was put into a facility. No one should be ashamed of life issues. Now that I look back I am thankful I didn't let depression and anxiety take my life away!
At the moment I'd settle for some aloe-free hand-sanitizer. Seriously, aloe makes my skin blister and peel and they put it in practically every lotion and sanitizer.
I'm a celiac, medicine and make up labels really annoy me it should be a requirement to list the allergens. The amount of people that think it's a lifestyle choice when eating out and don't take it seriously drives me insane. I don't have such serious reactions as this and my anxiety is through then roof eating out somewhere new., I can only imagine how hard it must be for her.
YES! I like how the gluten-free and vegan trends have made more (less cardboard-like) food options available in shops, but it's also so annoying because people don't think it's serious when it is.
R H I got told by a woman in a cafe they had vegan choices when asking about gluten. She had no idea, thought as its vegan that counts. I just walked out places like that aren’t worth my health .
R H as a vegan, I hope that you don’t think that it matters any less. Ethical choices should be respected. But I can’t stand when people group together veganism with gluten free. It’s so ignorant.. there’s no reason people should think those are synonyms.
Unless you are ingesting your makeup, it shouldn’t cause a celiac reaction. But definitely agree that medications should indicate if they’re gluten free or not.
I'm allergic to citrus and rarely anyone takes it seriously, or they often forget. We need more allergy awareness and better education. In highschool, classmates who bullied me would "test" my allergy by bringing in drinks or fruits I'm allergic to. I hope that'll never happen to anyone else 😥
I’m allergic to bananas and no one took it seriously until I had a severe allergic reaction to a smoothie. My boyfriend hasn’t had a banana in over 10 years because of it.
This make me soo happy, allergies need more awareness. I am deathly allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, fish shellfish, milk, and egg, and I am also allergic (not deathly) to watermelon and cantaloupe. I also have a sensitivity to red dye 40
It wonder if this site might be helpful for you: allergen-free-cuisine.blogspot.com. It has recipes that do not include wheat, dairy, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, corn, yeast, soy or other beans, peas, or lentils
Ugh, I have a friend who has to live with horrible allergies like this. He’s always got a runny nose and he always looks miserable sitting next to a tissue box in class. If we ever go out as a group, he can’t eat anything because he might get a reaction. Honestly, if I could strangle allergies to death, I would shoot them point blank. He’s also our best trumpet in band so we must protect the brass boy. Gosh, humans have horrible flesh blobs for bodies. Sometimes I feel like I’m the luckiest person on earth, only having two allergies.
The US is great for people with allergies! Here in Germany it’s horrible, even tough the law say every restaurant should have allergy signs and list everything in the food, nearly nobody does it and you just get the annoying „Yeah we dont know for sure, if you want to be safe, just don’t eat it!“ 🙄
Thank you for telling others what your life is like. We need more to do this, as some just can't think of things other than inside their own simple view of the world. Wish we had better food labeling laws like the other countries you mentioned.
I’m known as the Kid with Allergies at school, and everyone seems to treat it like a joke. I’ve had countless reactions at school, and the school does their best but the students are just the worst. Allergy awareness needs to happen more often.
@losandersox me to! People always say "so, like what can you eat?" or "i feel sooooo bad for you!" and it makes me feel really bad. Luckily, I have friend and family who are respectful and understand me.
Also I worked as a waitress for years, so when she mentioned the wait staff reactions it gave me the chills. This does happen, and I've even met people who will completely disregard what a customer has said and bring them a dish with traces of what the customer's told them they're allergic to in it, just as a test. Don't EVER be afraid to leave a restaurant, even after you've placed and order! Better to be considered rude at a place you'll likely never go again than to have a reaction.
gosh..i feel so privileged for not having any major allergies (that i know of at least)🙏🏼 there should be more awareness sourrounding this, the allergies are literally life-threatening and should be taken seriously by everyone❤️
We need this awareness. My boyfriend is a lot like you. He is allergic to the same things as you, and some more! It also affects on what I can eat, what cosmetics I can wear, etc. Again. We need this awareness
WONDERFUL video on awareness of people living with food allergies. Many don't understand. It's hurtful when uneducated people judge and become annoyed. It's not a lifestyle choice, it's life or death. Applaud you!
I cried after watching this video. I have a sever peanut and tree nut allergy, and hearing her talk about reading labels, dealing with dating anxiety, restaurants, etc. gave me so much comfort. I know my allergies are not as extensive as hers, but I relate heavily with a lot that she has to deal with. I always feel so awkward asking people to accommodate for me and having to explain things; I never want them to get annoyed/upset by me, and I don't want to come off as rude or selfish. Spreading awareness about allergies and the experiences of allergy-sufferers is the best way to make life smoother for us and those without allergies. Thank you for this spectacular video.
This girl just educated me on a lot of things. I wasn't aware that people can have allergies to so many things. This is important for people to know and be more mindful of things like this.
Amazing woman. Makes me feel far less alone. I have nerve damage and severe balance issues, use a walker now and every outing has to be planned like a military campaign. How near is the loo, are there any stairs, can a car pull up directly outside, will I have to stand etc. Her situation is far more severe than mine but her story makes me feel far less lonely.
I’ve dealt with life threatening food allergies my whole life. It’s something that controls every aspect of my day-to-day life. Lately it’s effected my mental health extremely. I’ve had to quit my job, I no longer travel, I’m even terrified to go into a grocery store by myself. It’s been a burden on my life and on my family and close loved ones lives as well. There needs to be more awareness. Thank you so much to allure for allowing and helping food allergy awareness. And thank you to Sarah, for having courage to share your story. You are incredible. I relate to this whole video is every way. I’m allergic to Peanuts, tree nuts and sesame seeds.
@Sheela Narayanan two companies, called Sunbutter and 88 Acres make nut butter alternatives that are good for my allergies! Wowbutter and Don't Go Nuts also make ones that I personally can't have because of my soy/legume allergies.
This is the first video that relates to me having celiac disease plus chronic illnesses as a 19 year old is so refreshing cause I'm always on high alert to what is safe for me
That's a great video. I grew up with a mother who is basically allergic to everything and her allergies sometimes change. We can't go to restaurants, because they never take food allergies serious and even after asking them about the ingredients or telling them to not put something in like for example salad sauce, they don't pay attention and my mother is left with an allergic outbreak
SUCH an interesting and informative video. I don’t have any serious foot allergies, but I am allergic to heat and sweat. I live in southeast Texas and the summers here are swelteringly hot. Without high doses of antihistamines I would get hives almost every time I went outside in the summer. Getting sweaty in dance class? Hives. Taking a hot shower? Hives. Getting too warm under covers at night? Hives. It’s more annoying than anything for me, and people are always asking why I’m covered in hives. It’s just life!
I have a severe peanut allergy, and I relate to almost everything she said. The worst for me is when people don't take me seriously because of it. I've broken down crying at restaurants before because of the stress of having my life on the line every time I eat a new food. It sucks.
Thank you for this! As a person with severe food allergies this is the first time I have felt true representation. Allergies are usually not taken seriously and I’m more often than not treated as if I’m unconvincing others. Reading through the comments and seeing that so many people are going through exactly what I’m going through helps me to feel so much less alone.
THIS VIDEO IS SO IMPORTANT!! I am across the world in Australia but Sarah and I are twins. She is answering exactly how I would to every single question. Thank you Allure for bringing awareness to food allergies!!
As someone allergic to Eggs, Shellfish, Soy, Wheat and Dairy, I feel the struggle! Everyday activities can be challenging and doing basic things like hanging out/eating out with friends or dating can be hard. Not being able to pinpoint the cause of random allergic reactions can also be very frustrating. You are not alone Sarah!
All I want to say is THANK YOU! To Allure and to Sarah, for making this video. It gives me hope for my 9yo daughter that has food allergies as well, for her future. We are already doing most of the things that they listed for her now, so even if it won't be easy everyday, she will be able to handle it on her own and have a great life. It's important that more people understand the reality we face everyday and the constant worry that comes with it. Again, thank you!
Being allergic to food coloring is so annoying. I can’t have most pills! I can’t have most foods. And NO LIPSTICK. powder products made with oxides instead of dyes are the only things I can use but because most companies save money by underwing srtificla dyes it’s hard to find anything for me, 😭
I’m allergic to dairy, sesame, cashews, pistachios, dogs, and horse, and although there are not life threatening- at least I don’t think they are- it’s so hard because I can’t even go to my friends houses without having a reaction to their dog. I’ve grown out of my allergy to peanuts, wheat, and eggs, but nobody understands the struggle of allergies
@Laura Chiaallergies like dairy are allergies 80% of kids grow out of by the age of 12. allergies like peanut only 20% grow out of, and usually by the age of 12 new test are done. if you than still have the allergies its likely they're lifelong. also people with severe allergies are less likely to grow out of them.
@Laura Chia for severe food allergies there are none yet. however there are a lot of researches on that. but for things like hay fever I believe there are some medications available, i don't know if those treatments iare available in every country though.
I have celiac (a gluten/wheat allergy) and I relate to this video so much. I can’t eat a lot of things and I hate going to restaurants with my friends because they always want to go to a restaurant with gluten and I can’t eat much. I also hate asking “is this gluten free?” because it adds attention on me. It’s just extremely hard living with this everyday, but this video makes me realize i’m not alone. Thank you so much for spreading awareness on allergies and how severe they can be. We need more talk about this.
These videos are helpful to others who don’t understand, I’m anaphylactic to Dairy, eggs, peanuts, & tree-nuts, along with being allergic to strawberries, apples, shellfish, peas, sesame, soy. Along with some animals, medications, & plants. More videos need to show the everyday life!
I relate sooooo hard to this, i have a severe allergy to gluten, dairy as well as many fruits and vedge. I hate it when people dont take me seriously or dont understand why i dont feel like explaining my allergies for the 5th time that day.
I’m also practically allergic to everything milk, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pineapple, mango, some trees and plants
I’ve been allergic & aware that I’m allergic to Carmine. There needs to be more awareness of this allergy so people can pay more attention to labels to avoid this ingredient in foods & makeup. I wish I could bring more awareness to this by sharing my story
As a person with celiac disease and a soy allergy, I feel that struggle. Living daily life is scary. Celiac isn't immediately life threatening, but migraines and gut pain for days is horrid.
I'm sorry you are experiencing that. Though my situation isn't as life-threatening as yours (I have food intolerances), I understand how it feels to be anxious of eating something offending and suffer the consequences. Don't give up - there will be better days!
I always get annoyed when people make comments about how people with a bunch of allergies are annoying because they can't eat anything. Like seriously? It's not as though people can control what allergies they have.
holy cow i’ve never seen allergy representation lol i have pretty bad food/outdoor allergies, they’ve gotten better as i’ve gotten older so none of them are life threatening (anymore) but it’s definitely rough. i’m so glad this video was made 💖
My mom is like this. I get so angry when people don’t understand/respect severe allergies. I didn’t get any of them, which is so crazy to me but I appreciate this video so much for people like my mom
i’ve never felt so understood by a video or interview before it’s amazing seeing that i’m not the only one who struggles with fear about food because of allergies
I felt this on a personal level. I'm allergic to a lot of different foods that could potentially kill me if I don't get medical help right away. I don't have as many allergies as the girl in this video, but my allergies definitely affect my daily life and a lot of getting used to. I've had to go to the E.R four times in the past six months because of anaphylactic reactions to food. At first, I didn't know what was wrong or why these things were happening to me at first because I didn't know that I was allergic to so many things. I was really scared. But, after my first E.R visit, I went to an allergy doctor and found out that I have 22 food allergies and allergies to medications. It was really an eye-opener for what I eat and what really goes into my food. Now, my parents are totally maniacs when we go grocery shopping and furiously check labels. Now, I can't have Nutella anymore, which I'm pissed about. I used to eat Nutella out of the jar with a spoon while watching Netflix, but I developed an allergy to it, and now it could cut off my airway and kill me so that's fun.
I’m starting to tear up, this was INCREDIBLE. So true about always carrying 2 Epi’s, working with restaurants, going and not eating, having to walk out of events (I had to walk out of the room of my first class in a subject as a Freshman in college because the prof brought peanut candy). I avoid travelling and it’s so good to hear about the food allergy cards; that’s brilliant!
I just don't understand when some people act like you've done something wrong when you medically cannot eat or be in contact with something... Like, what are THEY upset about? So it's slightly inconvenient, this is someone's LIFE.
I'm a server at a restaurant, and I had this insanely sweet girl and her friend come in! The moment they sat down, one of the girls handed me a card that listed all her allergies, and things we can do to make our equipment safe to use when handling her food. I thought it was AWESOME that she had one of these cards. It educates us and lets us know about her allergies. Win/win situation!
I’m allergic to eggs, dairy and nuts. I’m happy that ppl are spreading awareness. Some ppl don’t realize how serious allergies and how much it affects our lives.
This is the only other person I’ve seen with an Auvi-Q! I love mine! It erases the time a person would take having to read instructions because it talks them through it!
Very interesting. You guys should do a video on how living with an ostomy bag effects a person's every day life. It's not so bad, but most people don't seem to know that. Just a suggestion.
It was great to see this video and raise awareness. I have most of the same allergies that Sarah has and numerous others, and I have had them since childhood (I’m 31 now). I feel her pain it’s a difficult life but manageable, major props to Sarah for telling her story.
As someone with anaphylactic reactions, I'm so glad you made this video. In today's climate, people act though food preferences are the same, and they are not 🙄... it's really hard
10:40 This is an EU law (so I'm surprised that they didn't have that in France as well), I believe and a lot of people were annoyed with them. I wasn't really but now I fully realize how useful it actually can be for people like you.
I'm allergic to a lot of foods and have coeliac Disease. I struggle so much when travelling. Takes a lot of planning. People just get annoyed when I ask a million questions. France was pretty hard to eat safely in.
@@iTalkWho Ok, guys, you made me google it a bit more. And it seems like it's a planned law that has not yet been put into place but some countries already did (my country - the Czech Republic definitely did). But I'm sick so my head's not working that great, so if you wanna check it out, I meant this law: eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/ALL/?uri=CELEX%3A32011R1169
My best friend growing up had a life threatening tree nut allergy like this, and it was eye opening for me to see how terribly lots of restaurants handled the situation. Lots of eye rolling and lying when they don't even know if there has been cross contamination. Not to mention airplanes were her worst nightmare because of the peanut packets, even if they weren't served on her specific flight.
Thank you for this!! I have food allergies (not as bad as her) but it can be so hard to explain. I also have ankylosing spondylitis (an autoimmune disease) which many do not understand. There needs to be more awareness for chronic illnesses!! Thanks Allure!!
I relate to this 1000%!! Thank you Sarah and Allure for showcasing how all areas of life are impacted by anaphylactic allergies! We need more awareness and education on this!!
I'm allergic to barley , so I definitely sympathize with the label reading. Especially since some ingredients are added in many forms and under many names. Since barley isn't a top ten allergen it can be included in "natural flavors" or "spices", so I have had to call corporate numbers after a reaction to figure out what food it was that sent me down the pain spiral.
Love how this video recognises that the downsides to allergies don’t just stop at what foods you can and can’t have- and that it effects all aspects of your life :/ I have nowhere near the amount of severe allergies as her but I relate so much, especially the fear of travelling
I have a life-threatening egg allergy and what's nuts is how even sometimes when I go through the whole rigamarole of telling restaurants about my allergy, talking with all the different people she listed, etc, people still don't take it seriously. I've been assured and reassured that what I ordered was egg-free only to end up in the hospital.
As someone who has been developing food allergies over the years I'm so happy with this video. I feel like I can't do anything but you show me I can as long as I am very careful
During an immunodeficiency walk with one of my friends, we met up one of her friends and ended up going out to lunch. We visited an Italian restaurant where I learned her friend had a long list of severe food allergies, and honestly, it was SUCH a wonderful experience. After speaking with the waiter, the chef came out and double checked for all of her allergies and actually made her something that wasn’t on the menu. The food was amazing and it was just nice to know the restaurant cared and was willing to help, it was nice to know we could all enjoy our lunch and everyone was accounted for in eating some of their delicious pasta. For anyone wondering, it was Maggianos Little Italy in Charlotte, NC, and if you ever have the chance to try their food, trust that you will not be disappointed. I can never visit another Olive Garden or Cheesecake Factory and feel the same.
Sounds so similar to my experiences with celiac disease as well as other severe food sensitivities. Thank you for this. It feels like nobody is speaking about chronic conditions.
Great informative video. She really explained all the complexity behind allergies. I didn't know some of these things, and I and others should. I fully believe knowledge is power and more awareness and discussion needs to happen about topics like this. Kudos to her.
see this is why i wish people would stop saying they’re allergic to something, simply if they don’t like it. it decreases the (can’t think of the word?) for actual food allergies.
I feel you girl! Allergic to practically everything you are (except soy thankfully) + eggs & red meat. Hope this video gains traction so people can be more informed
Oh my goodness! I understand this girl. I have a SEVERE soy allergy. After chemo, my body changed, and I started having bad reactions every time I ate or put on lotion, or washed my hair (throat swelling, trouble breathing, vomiting, horrible skin reactions including itching, rashes, and feeling like I’m being pricked with needles all over my skin). Once we figured it out, I became very aware how much soy is used in EVERYTHING. I have to check everything I eat or touch. If I don’t, I’m in a bad situation that could potentially kill me. My heart goes out to you!!!
Its so nice to see this! I don’t have food allergies but I have a lot of medication allergies and non-allergy dietary restrictions (migraine triggers, medication interactions, and IBS triggers) and I deal with a lot of the same problems. Especially eating out. I hate going to new restaurants because a lot of times I’m not taken seriously because my restrictions are strange and seemingly nonsensical (mushrooms, cumin, shellfish except shrimp, and others).
Hi Sarah, coincidence my daughter is named Sarah aged 23 and she has multiple food allergies. And anaphylaxis too. Thanks for being open in explaining the difficulties of our daily life
THIS IS AN AMAZING VIDEO!!!!!! I am anaphylactic to all dairy and dairy-bi products and people never understand how difficult going through everyday life can be. Thank you for bringing awareness to how severe allergies can be.
Currently up dealing with allergies, and an ear ache and this comes across my feed! Fortunately I don’t have food allergies but, I can seriously relate! Yesterday I ended up having a major attack because I followed my fiancé to a friends house, and we both forgot she had a cat. I ended up showering and changing my clothes, and I ended up having to make him shower and change! I also ended up taking Benadryl.
MelonBerryBox well it seems like she’s allergic to a lot of plant based items and “lots of other things” so i’m just wondering what is really left to eat. it must be hard not being able to eat like everyone else.
you seem so organized, so if you have time, you should make a blog saying what products are safe, dating-with-a-severe-allergy advice, what restaurants are allergy friendly, etc!
I've always been confused why people complained about other people having allergies, I don't have a severe allergies although I have seasonal allergies, I'm allergic to band-aid adhesive, dust, perfume, and those are all common allergies but even those suck so I can't even imagine having a life threatening allergy. I remember in fifth grade my class was visiting a different class and one of my friends who has a severe allergy to hazelnut asked to leave the class because he felt wierd and thought someone might've eaten like Nutella or something but our teacher basically told him to suck it up and I've always been confused by that reaction, it wouldn't have affected her day to let him go out into the hallway so he would've been comfortable
This is my life and she breaks down every aspect of this perfectly... and thank you so much for this perfect video I can send to new friends that don't understand what it's like to have allergies
I’m so grateful for this video. Severe food allergies are real and need to be taken seriously. I also have severe food allergies. Thanks for showing awareness. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm severely allergic to dairy and peanuts. When I was growing up, it was common for adults and teachers to think I was making my allergies up for attention or special treatment and for them to not take it seriously which was life threatening. Thankfully that mindset is now shifting in part to videos like this!! Thank you for sharing your story Sarah:)
Thank you for the video. Having multiple food allergies is very stressful. However, it makes you more conscious of what you put in and on your body. It does suck about the costs. Where I live, there is only one brand of sunflower seed butter and it’s so expensive despite living in a big city.
This was so interesting! I always make sure if I’m out with my daughter and take her lunch with us that it’s never peanut butter because I wouldn’t want to cause someone else to have a reaction
This was amazing! Sometimes people like us feel alone in a world full of almond milks and coconut everything (although she is ok with coconut) where reading labels before buying is a necessity, and eating out is never mindless. It’s a nice reminder to health-conscious and plant-based companies that allergens still exist for many!
Tenareful .. wouldn’t it tell you in the ingredients though? It literally takes one second to read lol. I have to read everything since I’m vegan and after years of doing it it takes one second to scan. Major allergens are always listed
@@alexisrose4221 yes but if you have to read every package it can be time consuming my girlfriend is gluten and dairy free and I always have to triple check because i struggle with small print and the colors because I have dyslexia and irlens and food packages are often really busy it's more of a time saver
Sheela Narayanan I’m so glad you love it! 😄 yes my parents started it I believe around 8 years ago now, and it was inspired by my moms experience with having a kid with peanut and egg allergies (which would be me!😋)
Sheela Narayanan actually, I was born with my allergies, like we discovered both when I was around 1, so it makes it a little bit easier. However, I used to be able to eat Dunkin’ Donuts then found out they started using egg, so I had to stop, that’s what I miss the most. I just try to stay positive and my mom would always make sure to bring safe snacks for me whenever I would go to birthday parties to make me feel included ☺️, i do feel down about it sometimes for sure but you just have to sort of keep going, you know?
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! FINALLY SOMEONE JUST LIKE ME!!!!!! Thank you for someone finally explaining that food allergies just don't effect our diets.. it literally revolves around our whole world. I understand how you feel about job interviews and it's a hard thing to explain. Thank you for explaining it like this so that people can really understand that it's not just food that our allergies effect.
I loved this awareness on food allergies. I hope their is a cure in the not too distant future so that those with severe food allergies can live with more ease.
I would also love to see something focusing on autoimmune disease, such as crohn's. I think people are sympathetic to the situation, but they don't fully understand how debilitating symptoms can be.
This is so important! I too have many, many, many severe food allergies and there is still so much understanding missing. We really needed this, thank you:)
There should be an app where you can input your allergies and scan different SKUs and it would tell you if it’s safe or not
that sounds genius & what if it had restaurant & social place recommendations too based off of your allergies that you select on a list that’s saved to your profile + alerts when a products formula changes to state they either added or removed an allergen. It would also need a disclaimer to always double check everything just in case, but that’s such a great idea.
J L theres apps like that for vegan foods!
That's a great idea.
I think the more important issue is having people be aware of what triggers their own allergies. Bringing awareness
to allergies themselves may sound good in theory but realistically won’t change the way other people/companies operate as a whole, as it would be near impossible to change their practices due to a small percentage of people who are affected by one ingredient.
My brother is like her. It makes me mad when people don’t take his allergies seriously.
Since all these people with food PREFERENCES came about, it became harder to take it serious. (i still do, we still do)
i had a lady tell me she was terribly allergic to gluten, so we made sure we were careful with her plate.
eventually, i see her picking off her husband's burger plate.. its frustrating.
Like those people or brand that sneaky swap milks/diet versions ect
try "thoughts and prayers? you know those also very effective ways of solving problems?
@@dianab1008 its just HYSTERIA just like "religion"
I can sympathize and understand how you would take it personally bc you see your loved one suffering. But you really cant be too mad with strangers, they have no obligation to your brother. Just as you dont care about my blood clots and poor circulation in my legs.. just being blunt here not rude.
This is so important. Please do more of these on chronic illness and disabilities
Mary C yes !! Feeding tubes would be great too
Type 1!!!! It would be amazing to have more awareness around this.
Shia T yess!! So Many people don’t know the difference between the two !
As a woman with T1D and ME, I agree with y’all! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
How about one similar to this topic? Mast cell activation disorder (MCAD) you have allergic reactions but have no cause
Period.
karimonster And lavender is disgusting, both in flavor and scent.
I read an article about someone with this allergy once, and the way people treated her for it was just disgusting.
She was a teacher, and her students would deliberately spray lavender aerosols to make her react, and the more times that happened, the more sensitive and severe her allergies became
Those kids were genuinely risking her life itself as a joke.
Fun times.
@@user-ng5kf2uz6s It excacerbated her allergy and made it far more sensitive. I'll see if I can find the article again
As an allergic to a lot of stuff... we need cleaner, simplier and more indicated, labeled products.
I luckily don’t have any food allergies, but I do have severe cat allergies, and most people assume it means a stuffy nose and watery eyes not hives and possible death.
exactly, even if some allergies aren't life threatening it is still extremely uncomfortable to be having an allergic reaction and it's generally frustrating and people don't realize :(
Yes!!!
@@Amanda-mt2hx that's ridiculous!!
YES!! So much of it is about the working they use when answering questions!
If I hear another "I think so" when I ask if something has nuts I swearrrrrrr
Trueeee
Sarah Wild they legit lose business by not caring, it’s dumb, they should be more accomodating
Restaurants need to train their servers better to know which dishes have allergens and which ones don’t. I think So is the nice way to say I don’t know.
I can't believe anyone has to pay for epipens. That's insane. You didn't choose to have a life threatening allergy.
Blue Loon I can’t believe anyone has to pay for anything. That’s insane. You didn’t choose to be born.
I had my backpack stolen and my epipens were in it. That was the second scariest thing to lose after my inhaler, but the inhaler didn’t even take 24 hrs to replace. The epipen took several days, and I live in a huge city.
@@kerianpearson9796 that's pretty messed up
She definitely should go into product development for people w severe allergies
dlxe or be an advocate for free epi-pens for people with allergies. Socialized medicine.
I'm allergic to peanuts, any kind of nut, dog hair (makes me sneezy), shelfish, eggwhites, etc. Its Intruiging
I'm curious as I've only been allergic to a certain medicine as of now, but can you eat fruit flavored items or is it just fresh you can't eat?
I'm interested to know why fresh fruits? Is it all fresh fruits or just some? Cab you eat canned fruit since it's not fresh? and Are you sure it's not the pesticides used on the fruits you are reacting too?
Jumin Han since I have seasonal allergies I’m allergic to pollen so the skin of most fruits have pollen on them. Tried peeling the skin but I still have a reaction. It’s called oral allergy syndrome.
Food allergies are looked over. This needs more attention!
@@esmeew2379 i always carry nuts with me.... Some flights don't serve food :/ and everything else gets mushy.
@@desouzasinclair you might wanna stop doing than then.. If someone who's sitting near you have severe allergies, you could kill them
It throws me in a panic.
Someone should make a brand of makeup that is guaranteed top 14 allergens free
Yes!!
PLEASEEEEE!!!
At the moment I'd settle for some aloe-free hand-sanitizer. Seriously, aloe makes my skin blister and peel and they put it in practically every lotion and sanitizer.
do you have 5 million dollars to invest?
didnt think so,
I thought about that too. maybe one day i'll do it lol ; )
Medicine not having the allergen labelling is crazy. It's literally health-related. WTF.
She is so articulate! I think we need more people like her to help everyone else understand thanks allure bring us more people!
That’s so dangerous!! I’m glad you’re okay now tho
Jai im also allergic to citrus hey
Omfg I am also allergic to citrus and I hate it when people try to eat oranges in front of me 😖

those people are sick. i'm so sorry that happened to you, i have a bad peanut allergy and people would take it really lightly around me at school.

Here in Germany it’s horrible, even tough the law say every restaurant should have allergy signs and list everything in the food, nearly nobody does it and you just get the annoying
„Yeah we dont know for sure, if you want to be safe, just don’t eat it!“ 🙄
Its just that in Germany people are less brainwashed by the "hysteria sells" media into believing they have a allergy.
cmulder002 but still people like me who do have allergies do profit so much!
here in the Netherlands it's exactly the same. that's why I love going to the US for holidays.
Glad we're good for something health care wise, lol.
Same in India. They just started labeling for nuts. Just 2-3 years ago
Thank you for telling others what your life is like. We need more to do this, as some just can't think of things other than inside their own simple view of the world. Wish we had better food labeling laws like the other countries you mentioned.
Athaliah yes! it’s crazy how it’s completely legal to leave ingredients off the label.
Thanks so much for watching! Hopefully we will get there soon!
I’m known as the Kid with Allergies at school, and everyone seems to treat it like a joke. I’ve had countless reactions at school, and the school does their best but the students are just the worst. Allergy awareness needs to happen more often.
losandersox at my school it’s very hard to be able to have an epi pen
Wow - thank you so much! I'm so sorry you're struggling. Feel free to reach out if I can ever help!
It sucks.
Me too. You're not alone.
And NO LIPSTICK. powder products made with oxides instead of dyes are the only things I can use but because most companies save money by underwing srtificla dyes it’s hard to find anything for me, 😭
Are you allergic to beets. Try boiling some and straining the juice then mix it with a dye free lip chap?

I’ve grown out of my allergy to peanuts, wheat, and eggs, but nobody understands the struggle of allergies
@Laura Chiaallergies like dairy are allergies 80% of kids grow out of by the age of 12. allergies like peanut only 20% grow out of, and usually by the age of 12 new test are done. if you than still have the allergies its likely they're lifelong. also people with severe allergies are less likely to grow out of them.
I also have an allergic reaction to dogs and cats and it's horrible because all my friends have dogs in their house :(
@Laura Chia for severe food allergies there are none yet. however there are a lot of researches on that. but for things like hay fever I believe there are some medications available, i don't know if those treatments iare available in every country though.
I have celiac (a gluten/wheat allergy) and I relate to this video so much. I can’t eat a lot of things and I hate going to restaurants with my friends because they always want to go to a restaurant with gluten and I can’t eat much. As a person with celiac disease and a soy allergy, I feel that struggle. Living daily life is scary.
Celiac isn't immediately life threatening, but migraines and gut pain for days is horrid.
That must be really hard as I've noticed a lot of gluten-free food is also made to be dairy free which means soy 😣.
@Sheela Narayanan Katz company! They have some good gluten/soy and dairy free products
This is the reality of my life every single day. It is exhausting and anxiety provoking, it is so difficult.
Even if you don’t have any known allergies you should always patch/swatch test everything because you never know if you could react to something
I have never seen that here in Sweden, I would love to see it though as someone with allergies!
This video made me feel seen. I have always felt like NOBODY understands how hard it is to have severe food allergies. Thank you for this!
you go girl! keep up your strength and amazingly positive attitude. Wishing you the best and my fingers are crossed they find a cure!
I feel like I can't do anything but you show me I can as long as I am very careful
i've had a life threatening peanut allergy my entire life. allergy awareness is super important and i'm really glad to see a video like this.
Me too. You're not alone. ❤️
Kudos to her.
see this is why i wish people would stop saying they’re allergic to something, simply if they don’t like it.
it decreases the (can’t think of the word?) for actual food allergies.
legitimacy?
regard
Do people actually say it?
Credibility?
Same girl... Same! Love that you're speaking about this topic! People need to understand that it affects various parts of our daily lives
I feel you girl! Allergic to practically everything you are (except soy thankfully) + eggs & red meat. Hope this video gains traction so people can be more informed
what a strong woman. This really opened my eyes to this topic and I have so much respect and love for her.
Kitty Bennett sort of like the vegan struggle. How many things actually need trace amounts of milk powder?!
Thank you for sharing this 🙏 living with allergies is hard but people are learning more and more and that gives me hope ❤
My mom is allergic to:
- dairy
- chicken
- beef
- fish
- mustard
- oats
- rice
- beans
- apples
- peaches
- pears
- bananas
- soy
- eggs
- all legumes
- oranges (all citrus)
- peanuts
- almonds (all nuts beside coconut)
And lots of other things I’m forgetting
What does she usually eat? Does she need to take vitamins?
@@Karina-zg3ht Probably vegetarian/plant based. lol
MelonBerryBox well it seems like she’s allergic to a lot of plant based items and “lots of other things” so i’m just wondering what is really left to eat. it must be hard not being able to eat like everyone else.
I can't imagine what her life must be like having to deal with that, wow
I have oral allergy syndrome. Does she?
you seem so organized, so if you have time, you should make a blog saying what products are safe, dating-with-a-severe-allergy advice, what restaurants are allergy friendly, etc!
So glad it'll be a good resource for you to use!!
I can relate. I also have multiple food allergies plus hay fever.
They need to make an app that scans barcodes and highlights potential allergens
Tenareful .. wouldn’t it tell you in the ingredients though? It literally takes one second to read lol. I have to read everything since I’m vegan and after years of doing it it takes one second to scan. Major allergens are always listed
@@alexisrose4221 yes but if you have to read every package it can be time consuming my girlfriend is gluten and dairy free and I always have to triple check because i struggle with small print and the colors because I have dyslexia and irlens and food packages are often really busy it's more of a time saver
Something similar is my parents website www.snacksafely.com!
Anybody else here done OIT treatment for food allergies? I had it for peanut and now I can safely have 2 peanuts, it's definitely a game-changer!
