People aren’t talking about this enough, sinner was gasping for air after every point in the 3rd. I think his horrible conditioning led do this more then the hip. He was still firing and running back and forth. It clearly took everything to do so as he was so gassed. His conditioning is very poor in my opinion.

Sinner's recurrent pain on the hip is absolutely terrifying for anyone that knows a thing or 2 about hips' injuries in this sport.
That ruined second part of Hewitt's career, Kuerten as well and more recently Andy Murray.
Hip issues and wrists issues are career ending type of problems, i seriously hope it's only muscular.

Exactly. I'm worried because he said in a press conference that his injury was so unusual, the doctors weren't sure what to tell him about recovery time. Really hope he plays it safe and lets himself fully heal. Not worth the risk.

He was trying to stretch it out between games and he didn't call an MTO so I was hoping maybe it was just cramping, but he looked pretty concerned. He's so young and hasn't hit his peak yet, it would be terrible for him to lose his career over an injury.

In a meta-review of several thousand injuries, only 13% of injuries were found to be of the muscle belly. The remaining 87% of all injuries are connective tissue in nature. Which means that most people who recover from injuries are recovering from something connected to a tendon, ligament, or fascial tissue. Just a cool fact I wanted to share.

Again the hip. Sinner is aiding the symptoms, not trying to fix the core-problem because that might take months or even a full year to fix it. But it's understandable that he wants to keep going because he is pretty much in his prime in 2024. The results and sacrifices he made so far does have a toll, just look at Murray after 2016. It is quite unfortunate those hip issues occur this early in Sinners career. Tbf, Sinners build looks quite frail compared to his peers of his age so the toll must be pretty high on his body.

After 3 games in the 3rd set he requested for the knob and finished the match. It's true that the initial two games of the 3rd set went to Rublev because Sinner couldn't give his best. How can it be that tournaments exist these days where players have to play more than one match in one day? I mean, both Rublev and Sinner played two matches so it’s not like one had an advantage over the other by only having to play one, but in general that to me is insane. Even if there’s rain or some other kind of unforeseen situation that pushes play to such a degree, I mean, add an extra day to the tournament if you must. They’re tennis courts, it’s not like they’re booked for something else. What, is the local instructor gonna sue because the final of a Masters 1000 interfered with his Girl’s 12-and-under group lesson🤷🏻‍♂️
Edit: Actually, I take it back…sort of. Cincinnati starts on the day of the final here in Montreal, so they can’t push it. But there too we see the result of bad scheduling. The season needs to accommodate for such delays. The players and their health and wellbeing must be the priority!!!

Is there something going on with Sinner during this tournament. Each of his singles matches his level starts off pretty low for many games before he dials in. Maybe just match play confidence but he is slow to move or get set up in the beginning of his sets and letting others bull his serve and ground strokes.

That’s just how sinner plays he isn’t one to blow u off the court at the beginning, everyone usally holds serve then at 2-2 or sumn he breaks and then just holds serve and maybe gets a 2nd break

I agree with John he did this at Roland Garros too. My dad scoffed about him being 2nd in the world until Sinner got his first break and dominated in the rest of the match we watched (I think it was vs Gasquet). I think Sinner uses the first few games as like an extension of the warmup and to feel out his opponent's serve and strategy. He plays smart more than hard, he also doesn't run after every ball unless it's a deciding point. It may have been a smart tactic of Rublev's to go on the attack early on and break to delay Sinner from getting into a proper rhythm.

In a sport - our sport - that requires running, moving quickly and changing direction abruptly, hip problems are deadly. These problems not only put a strain on the body, but also on the mind.
I think the problem in general is that the age at which we start playing tennis today is too young. You can see this in the fact that almost no one plays a one-handed backhand anymore. It's too dangerous for children. That's why they are taught the two-handed backhand. We have to start rethinking sport. We can't allow players like Janick Sinner to become number 1 only to get rid of them when they get injured. Unfortunately, a player with such problems does not have the time to fully recover. It's not like in football, where a player can be substituted and after an injury he is used for 5 minutes, then 10, 15 minutes and so on. A tennis player has to participate again as quickly as possible, possibly playing for 5 or more hours in order to prevent himself from slipping into no man's land. It's brutal! I hope the best for Jannik!

I also wrote that if there are hip lingering issues, he will lose his number one status this year and he must be extremely careful because this can be devastating to his career. He may have to take a long break until he feels 100%. So sad for my favorite number one guy but I pick alcarraz to take the number one status by late summer or fall. 😔😔😕

I got hip injury because of running too much, so I stopped running for a good year. Now I run again and it has mostly healed, but sometimes it hurts, and I have to take it easy. Hip injuries are serious stuff. I can't imagine what it's like for Sinner who has an incredibly busy and physically demanding schedule. He can afford professional physios and nutritionists though, so hopefully they help him to recover and stay away from it as much as possible. If needed, he might need to alter his play style so that he takes it easier on his body. His hard-hitting and super long rallies (+ supposedly natural predisposition for hip injury) are a big no-no, in my view.
