A lot has ro do with road construction. I-80 is a never ending mess of construction. Narrow lanes and challenging detours, sime that overdimensional loads can pass and some not.
@jamesbroughton9900 I mean it’s all relative. You need to be paid at a very high rate per mile to do this because loads like this one advance at very low speeds with all the sharp turns and hills and detours through towns
@ 36:36 I believe it was going to be court house but fell through and was for sale when I was there in 2009. Theres a very unique, white-grey house on the right just past this, right after the bridge that could easily be haunted.
I like watching the houses and electrical works along the road. Very few houses like these where I've lived on Vancouver Island, a relatively recent place as far as non native settlement is concerned.
Here is the even more messed up part. They routed you through Kane 20 or so miles south of New York and 86. You passed right through where I live in Williamsport just to go catch 81. Man you got nerves of steel and the patience of a saint. Awesome what you do.
Going up the hill in first gear reminds me of when we went on holiday to what was then Yugoslavia, and went up a mountain. A cliff rock face on one side and a two mile drop on the other side. The only time I never took any pictures, my thoughts were that if I took a large breath, we would go over🤣🤣🤣. Couldn't go down any more gears. We were in first gear and hairpin bends all the way to the top
Another fantastic video the winter season always puts the driving skills to the test and a great driver as yourself knowing the way your truck handles the conditions is the key to success in those adverse conditions.
Welcome to Pennsylvania,,OUR DOT oversize permit moves are one's to take with a couple grains of Salt,,Don't know who dreams up these routes, But even our drivers Frown upon them..What do you think about becoming our 51 st. State ?????nice truck, cute dog....
Hi Doug and Fred thanks for another awesome video Doug amazing skills as always starting off in arctic conditions and then all those narrow roads which seems to be your normal day and an awesome effort on your plan b getting around an impossible intersection and an amazing job by your two pilots and as it’s New Year’s Day here in australia wishing you and Fred safe miles for 2025 cheers from tim in queensland australia ( keep on trucking )
I was a snow plow driver in Ohio in the 80's till disability retirement in 93. The last snow I worked 2' on the road along the Ohio river, cars on route 7 covered completely before they sent me there. My Helper laid her plow on it's side 10 minutes after she left the outpost. Another reason I live in Thailand.
Happy New Year Doug and Mario. Super interesting and challenging route. As Doug says “Good job”. The drone footage at the end really give everyone perspective when your rig is parked beside a standard length tractor trailer rig. Takes real skill to drive/handle these loads.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Amazing driving and support! From looking at that drone footage, sure do hope you show us how you navigated to that space. That looked more complicated then getting on I-81. Any chance you can show us your route from TX to Quebec? Happy New Year!

Hi Doug, just got part 2. Hope you are yours and Fred had a great Christmas. Here's to a excellent new year and a prosperous n healthy one for you and your entire family which includes Fred see you 👀 next year. Mike from UK 🇬🇧
23:33 is he speaking french?? another question. how do they know when the wheels are straight? pure only on visuals. or do they have a sensor in the car behind the trailer that tells them when the wheels are straight.
Another move through the snow country. Some people have no patients at all. Wide load means you could be in trouble when he has very little room to travel. Another great video!
One of the things I enjoy doing, is finding you on Google Earth. At the end of the video, showing where you parked at the D & H Penn Can Restaurant. Have a great night and a well earned sleep for you and your crew.
I absolutely love snow. Probably because here in Manchester, on the west side of the UK, we get very little as we have a temperate climate which is the result of the Gulf Stream which crosses the Atlantic from the Caribbean, we do, however, get lots of rain🤣. However, the hills and mountains do get snow and can be pretty bad, as the roads, especially crossing over moors (ie, Dartmoor), have no footpaths, its straight into trouble if the snow is covering where the edges of the road are, so there are poles stuck into the sides of the road, and that shows the limit of the road, you do not go past these poles. For such a small country, weather wise, the pennines which are hills that stretches from the Scottish border down to the middle of England, (Derbyshire), and its these hills that stops the east side of the UK from being warmer, and the west side doesn't get the snow which comes down from the Nordic countries
Good luck with that! But I always say drivers act the way they do because they don’t understand. If they drove the truck for just one day it would give them perspective
That was a interesting way to say Coudersport lol. Figured youd have fun getting threw that town. Definitely not a fun trip across 6 with a load like that
50:00 is Catawissa Pennsylvania. When did you drive thru? 56:00 when you start up 487 towards Elysburg, im impressed you could drive that being as long as you are. I have drive that road hundreds of times.
There are multiply reasons. Over head height clearances, bridge weights that we can cross, width restrictions on other roads. All this plays into how a state routes oversize. Hope that answers your question.
Let's not forget some states will route you through some bs ways. If you don't catch it in time and call state dot. They tend to say wth and re route you personally out of the spot your not supposed to be in
In this area, if you're not on the interstate you're usually on a 2 lane road. The hills are rugged so the roads follow the river valleys which are full of old, small towns where the road zig zags through town. Not a lot of options for different routes.

Great relaxing video. I'm surprised your company and other oversized haulers in North America are not using cab over trucks. It always looks like a couple inches shorter nose would help a lot.

It's a long way across Pennsylvania, isn't it? And how did you ever get the load in to the lot at the Penn-Can truck stop at the Harford PA. exit? That lot isn't that big.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I thought about that. Even with the trailer almost on the ground I wondered if your center of gravity was high enough to give you trouble on that slope. I wish I had been there to watch you come it. Happy trucking, Jeff

Hey isn’t it better for the driver if they’re being paid per mile to drive further?
@jamesbroughton9900 I mean it’s all relative. You need to be paid at a very high rate per mile to do this because loads like this one advance at very low speeds with all the sharp turns and hills and detours through towns
They are clearly using Google maps and Street view to plan these routes.

Doug can you please explain why you lift and lower the trailer. What benefit does it give you being low down?
My guess is lower center of gravity, which means it’s harder for the cargo to tip over.
Clearance for overhead wires
When in the low position the top of the load is 15 feet high! If we leave it raised up we exceed our permit height and risk damaging something
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 thank you for explaining that as I didn't realise it was so tall.

Question. Do you utilize automatic tire chains (similar to OnSpot) on your truck?
No, I normally don’t carry tire chains and there is no system installed on this truck
Those trailer tires must take an exceptional beating on every turn they take. How long do they last?
How is the driver in the back able to drive his truck and steer the back wheels at the same time?
