"Kimi ni todoke" is AMAZING. It gets a bit frustrating with how slow things are moving, but everything feels so rewarding when it happens and characters are just so awesome!
I won't be able to say which of them have slang or how much since I am still a beginner level, but here are my personal recommendations:
    1. Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san (Teasing master Takagi-san) - extremely cute, super wholesome and the pacing seems really good as well and I did not notice any unnatural forms of speech there. I guarantee you are going to roll off your sofa/chair because of how cute it is XD
    2. Akebi-chan no Sērāfuku (Akebi's Sailor Uniform) - very underrated and really good watch overall, also seems like they speak very naturally in it. The intro song is also really cute!
    3. Oregairu - very nice story, gets a bit heavy and complex at times, but is very wholesome!
    4. Go-Tōbun no Hanayome (The Quintessential Quintuplets) - It is pretty funny, cute and intriguing. If you haven't read the manga or watched the show + movie, then I wonder who would be your best girl and whom of the 5 sisters is the protagonist's bride? I say you should watch it to find out ;)
    5. Amagami SS - based on a dating sim game, it shows the protagonist in different romance routes, so once an arc ends, the story comes back to the beginning and shows what happens if he chooses someone else etc. It is cute, really funny and so wholesome especially with some of the routes (make sure to watch all OVAs and specials as well!)
    6. Tada-kun wa Koi o Shinai (Tada Never Falls in Love) - very wholesome story about a Japanese guy who ends up falling in love with a foreign girl, and the intro song is really awesome!
    7. Higehiro - I say ignore the controversy around it and actually just watch the show, it really is interesting and wholesome, but gets pretty sad at times though. Very good story overall and intro song by Dialogue+ never disappoints XD
    8. Kaguya-sama: Love is War! - Love is a big battlefield and the first one who confesses - loses! I think you should watch it to find out the rest and you will love it :)
    9. Tsuredure children - Comedy with short episodes, really cute and funny!
    10. Ganbare Douki-chan! - Another comedy made up of shorts, really funny as well!
I can write even more, but let's keep it at 10 for now, hope whoever decides to pick these up enjoys them! (PLZ NO SPOILERS!)

I wouldn't recommend Akebi chan and Tsuredure children for absolute serious beginners since there's some slang involved.
And even ones like Kaguya-sama use quite mid-high level japanese since they are at the age where such language proficiency is justified. Same goes for Quintessential

I tend to lean towards fantasy-based anime, but what you said at the end about fantasy vs the others makes sense. The speech from fantasy anime, or even historical anime from the past, will be different and harder to understand. I find this true and will have to give some of these a watch.

I've been learning for about 2 years, I've never seen any of these lol. I never worry too much about whether or not they use real Japanese, since it's not hard to distinguish real and anime Japanese. And you will eventually need to be able to know both real and Anime Japanese in order to be fluent, so it doesn't matter how realistic the Japanese is.
If you want to learn how real people speak, you have to listen to real people speak. Japanese TH-cam and social media help a lot if you aren't in Japan to get some reference material.

    • @rachelcookie321
      @rachelcookie321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@rachelcookie321 ヒカル is a pretty popular channel in Japan, he has like 2mil subs I think, his speech is pretty well spoken so he is a good reference for speaking style. I don't know how much Japanese you know so I'm not sure if his videos will be too hard.
If you like watching let's plays, ゆうなchannel is a pretty laid back channel and her commentary is usually easy to understand, plus there's the game to use as immersion too. There was one channel I forgot the name of that interviews foreigners in Japan, the conversations in those videos are easy to understand as well, I wish I could remember the channel name.
Either way, I'd really recommend searching on TH-cam in Japanese about topics you're into, because there might be something that you really like.

@@ntrg3248 thanks for the suggestion! I’ll check them out. It’s hard for me to just search topics I’m into because I watch a lot of different things on TH-cam. • @jamesn.5721
    @jamesn.5721 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

For learning speaking and listening at an absolute beginner level, I would recommend any anime with simple themes, simple storylines, normal if not slightly slower talking speeds, and easy to follow settings. So unfortunately that means for the time being missing out on stuff like Konosuba, Bunny girl senpai, kimi no nawa, your lie in april etc. AK Rex in the comments gave a pretty decent list to start with, though some of it are definitely a bit more advanced.
Then to enhance listening, repeat watching and listening episodes to fully understand what the characters are saying, all the way until you can clearly follow the storyline without subs or translations.
As Mochi sensei recommends, Nichijou, Doraemon, azumanga daioh are amazing for re-watchability and once you get the hang of the pacing of the dialogue, you can try to mimic what is being said, with the right pitch and intonation.
Of course if you can get a hold of the Japanese language manga of the anime you're learning from, it would be good as well to visualise what they are saying, so you can improve both reading and listening at once.
Good luck in your learning journey!

    - Son Goku & Vegeta from Dragonball
    - Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakuso
    - Lina Inverse from Slayers
    - Zenki
    - Ninku (the coolest ninja series before Naruto)
    - 3x3 Eyes
    - Ranma 1/2
    - Sailor Moon/Wedding Peach, NAS (Nurse) Angel,
    - Slam Dunk
    - Macross

    - Evangelion
And a LOT of manga reading on the train between anime-watching sessions! 🤣

I learnt so much with it ♥️♥️ And Nichijou and Doraemon ♥️♥️ for animes I’ve been trying to learn Japanese with, recently I’ve been watching Atashin’chi in Japanese. I understand the story even without subtitles so I think it’s easy level? But the voices go very fast I think? (I’ve heard say recently that Japanese is one of the language with the highest debit of speaking anyways 😭🥰🔥). Otherwise I think Aggressive Retsuko’s 10 first episodes from season 1 were hilarious. And I don’t know if the level of Japanese is easy or not because I watched it with subtitles, but I love animes that explore a prefecture from Japan and so I looved Yuru Camp and Golden Kamuy (If anyone has an anime to recommend that heavily explores a city/prefecture, I would very much love to see it). This is a correction for a term you use.
Anrhropomorphise - first it's not a word. Anthropomorphize is how you spell it. It's a verb, not an adjective.
Spelling aside, you did a good job pronouncing it.
Anthropomorphic - This is the adjective form of the word and what you should have been using.
Both words are a bit a mouthful for a lot of English speakers, and many have no clue what the words even means. So there's no reason to feel bad about not knowing which form is which.

Ιn Greek, Antropos means 'human', and 'mophi' means 'form' or 'shape', so 'anthropomorphism' is when something that isnt human, is made to look like human :) Like when you make a cat into a human looking girl or like how there was one anime with warships taking form of girls

do y'all watch these without the subtitles? I might cause the more you practice a word or words and you can't see what it's saying but you hear it, it helps you to remember it.

I don't know if the Japanese is easy or difficult, but I really enjoyed Non Non Biyori, which is a cute slice-of-life Anime about a group of girls of different ages who live in rural Japan.

Non Non Biyori is brilliant. I currently watch the show and read the manga. It is indeed good for beginners. The topics are easy to follow but they use sometimes slang and difficult vocabulary. But all in all I would recommend it too.

Yes! Non Non Biyori is definitely on the easier side of anime, but there are still plenty of new words to learn, so it's great. It's also very refreshing and wholesome. Also, all of the ending songs are sung by the female characters and they're really beautiful songs!

I am so glad to see nichijou here. It has a LOT of puns and niche Japanese cultural jokes, but that is what makes it such a joy to watch and listen to.
Edit: I recently was gifted Nichijou books 1-10 in Japanese as a birthday present and I love reading through it as a beginner. Does most of it go over my head? Maybe. But that’s the point of learning a language. I’ll be rereading it over and over again until that doesn’t happen anymore.

As someone who isn't really into a lot of slice-of-life or children's shows, the anime I would recommend is Aku no Hana. It's a pretty dark story with a lot of drama, but it's set in middle school and uses a lot of realistic, everyday language.
Edit: I'll add some context and say that I tend to enjoy dark, disturbing content, and Aku no Hana definitely belongs in that category, so stay away from it if you think it'll be too much for you. I'll also say that there is no TRUE beginner anime. If you have little to no experience with Japanese, anything you watch will sound like gibberish to you no matter what.

@@earthbind83 it's not dark at all I don't know who wrote that. It's fun, comedy, slice of life, drama it will make you laugh and cry. It's one of my favourite anime of all time. I couldn't recommend it enough I see it in anime youtubers top ten and sometimes number one of their anime of all time. If your an anime fan you owe to yourself to watch it.

I really like learning Japanese with Nichijou and Sakamoto desu ga. They both use fairly normal words about daily life. Sakamoto desu ga does have some slang and "tough guy speak" but it's not too much and the anime itself is really funny and charming.

Wow it's impressive that you were able to pronounce a word like anthropomorphism as a non-native speaker of any Latin-romance or Germanic language. I'm sure even some native speakers might struggle to pronounce it properly.
