It's pretty interesting to see everyones takes. Overrated / Underrated are often confused with Dislike / Like. It's still fun to hear the perspectives.
That’s because the question isn’t really translated accurately. In japanese he’s asking “what is an anime that popular but you don’t personally like?” And vice versa.
Well you have to consider their perspective: are they getting the definitions confused or is this based off the people they see/interact with overrating the anime? I’m pretty sure it’s the latter over the former.
@@budderslime67 well it would be tough to get Japanese people to answer questions like that cause it could be seen as open criticism and that's a bit taboo in Japan
I think overrated means people speak highly of it but you find it meh which usually equates to indifference or dislike. For example, the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once. It won so many Oscars but lots of people including a bunch of Japanese people find it meh. My brother even said to me after watching it on Netflix recently that it was 🗑.
Underrated means you think it's so good but it doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves. For me for example I think Takahashi Rumiko's Urusei Yatsura is her best work but it's not as well-known as Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2. Probably because it doesn't involve fighting like shounen manga. But to me the characters and gags are so creative and memorable.

Controversy is like something like "s1 Shield hero" where its released timing was really bad during the Me too era. Where they Shield hero got flack since it gives a story about a dude who is wrongfully accussed of SA". That premise made the series a point of debate.
(Here is what dictionary meaning of Controversy: disagreement, typically when prolonged, public, and heated.)
Now what is the controversy about MIA, like you even cited s1. Where that season has like relatively no controversy at all.
There was nothing that cause "diagreements or heated conflicting opinion about MIA" In short it was not a"controversial show". It's just a really dark story where most poeple agree upon.

I watched Erased, Tokyo Revengers, and Bartender this last month, which are not my usual style of anime, and I was FLOORED at how amazing they were. I just wanted to suggest them to people who haven't watched them for some reason. Just fantastic storytelling... 10/10

Blue Lock being named as underrated is so real (ok it isn't THAT nugu, but only in comparison to other sports anime like Haikyuu, Kurokou and Slam Dunk). I like how that one guy mentioned it focuses on personal growth much more when other sports anime focuses a lot on friendships and teamwork. In particular, the perspective of Greed and selfishness was very nuanced.

Not an underrated anime or anything, but Kaze Ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (or Run with the Wind if you prefer) is such a hidden gem!
I know it's short and based on a novel, but the level of humanity in the characters, the realistic approach to their struggles and how the story keep transitioning from a sports anime to a slice of life (and vice-versa), all of that with the music score by Yuki Hayashi just made this anime one of my favorites.
No wonder why I am running a marathon next month.

I'm annoyed that every criticism is always brushed of as a guy saying it is just low IQ and not that the story might have some flaws.

I recently watched 夏へのトンネル、さよならの出口 and i was surprised of how beautifully it was made. When I spoke to my Japanese friends, they said they never heard of it. Maybe it was a small studio, but even though, such a great story

I personally love Gintama and i think its overlooked by a lot of people. So if you like comedy give this show a try. Its considered the best in its genre. As the show goes on the jokes and overall comedy gets better and better as well as action and main story progresses.
I’m looking for the region B blu-ray of Gintama, will definitely give it a shot if I can.

An underrated anime that I wish was licensed in the US is Major. For some reason the sequel series is (Major 2nd), but the original series and OVA aren't. There's lots of baseball anime out there, but Major is by far the best. I love how it focuses on a single character's journey from Little League all the way up to achieving his dream of becoming a player in the Major Leagues. I also like that the main character isn't always successful and has realistic setbacks such as injuries, and eligibility when he gets to the high school level of baseball.

I do love them but not the best in the field, we're in for the storyline which was failed by the series but the anime has one of the greatest Fanservice ever(Not too much just at the perfect amount).

Have people forgotten Samurai Champloo? The intro song might be my favorite all time anime intro song and a must have on random playlists along with some other chill Nujabe mixed beats. It's a great story about two master swordsman who reluctantly agree to play body guard for a young woman that's looking for a missing person. The fight scenes are top notch interjected with vinyl record scratching and fun facts from the Edo Era of Japan. It has character growth, tons of comedy, break dance fighting, and possibly the best all around vibing anime soundtrack that I've ever heard. It ties itself up very nicely and you can't help but be emotionally invested in Mugen, Jin, and Fuu. Lots of mature themes but nothing a teenager can't handle. If you haven't even heard of it then it's because it's been forgotten in shuffle of near infiinite mediocre content that is everywhere. So yeah...that's my all time fave.
Underrated anime might be Netflix's "Dorohedoro"? Totally bizarre but despite it's dark magic theme has cute relationships and an obvious love for dumplings and psychedelic colors. Really cool fight scenes, strange masks, weirdly embraces the macabre, and a cool intro song. Not for kids but it's so over the top that it doesn't take it's own violence seriously. Kind of impossible to accurately describe but it's wonderfully weird. Would LOVE a live action because it would be so nuts to see in that format.
I still haven't seen "Chainsaw Man" but animated gifs that I see here and there have some really epic animation. One Piece is amusing but moves so slow I'm surprised more people didn't give it an overrated rating but I've only see a few episodes. I was shocked to enjoy the Netflix live action but they really honored the source material in a way that impressed me. Would love to get sucked into a new anime or old one that I wasn't aware of...

Hibike makes me nostalgic too… i was a Eupho player who was also a leader in my band, but I think it would probably have that effect on anyone who was in band. I feel like the experience of that club activity as a whole is universal
i found this channel randomly and as a big fan of anime i liked this video for someone who live in Tunisia i found out lately an anime called kingdom where shin the slave guy who dream about being a great general with a full story of wars in ancien china and i think its really underrated

The first said lady said overrated is demon slayer and under rated is fairy tale because demon slayer is too simplistic. Pretty much the same trope as fairy tale!!
Fairy tale is kinda boring though i watched 100+ episodes....it's similar to 1 pc but 1pc is exciting and enjoyable to watch...i love 1pc btw, my no.2 fav anime...demon slayer is always my no.1
@@Marie-p9ythe thing is most of them said they couldn't get into demon slayer bc it's boring demon slayer is my fav series right now even though I have watched so many shows but I am a anime newbie started in 2023 and I finished watching bleach today morning now I can say demon slayer has been replaced by bleach but I still haven't watched s4 of demon slayer bc I watch anime in dub anyway the thing i was trying to say is ppl said they couldn't get into demon slayer bc it's boring but I also agree one thing that first 8 or 9 episodes of demon slayer slow and after when we meet muzan from then on the series get more interesting so I think most them actually did not make It that far that's why they said demon slayer is boring just like jjk for me jjk is also so boring after ep 15 the series get interesting and good
