Hello and thanks for the demonstration. I have tied several of these but I use two colors of yarn. Must have learned it from someone. I like the contrast and it seems to fish well. All the best and thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean
+Sean Mooney yeah they are nicer with two colors for sure. But I am going for simple and quick with this. I tie up hundreds of these a day at the fly shop I work for, and it's all about speed there. So anything that adds time is not done. And while I like the look of the two colors better, it will take a bit longer to tie. This is the quickest way I know to tie, so the quickest way to fill a box.
I like it! I'm starting to tie flies and I think I can handle this one. Back when I started fly fishing I used Glo-bugs with a squirt of attractant for stocked rainbows in the Sierras. Worked great if not cheating a bit. Thanks for the video, it's very helpful.
Oh thanks, man I can’t remember if I tied that fly on video, did I? lol! I’ll go back and check. Man I’ve done so many videos now, hard to keep track. Glad you like them man!
Absolutely the larger ones are very effective. Great for visibility. I think all this depends on where your fishing and what the fish are wanting. Would you at your river system have better luck with a smaller egg? Maybe not. However I’ve had some river systems where the fish won’t touch the bigger ones. Just depends on conditions and the river your fishing.
They work for that for sure! We used to use them for steelhead in the Napa river when the salmon were spawning. The trout would sit and wait for the eggs to come down stream and gorge on them. Was some of the easiest fishing I have ever done! HAHA
Use any color you would like to! :) Its a technique video, but that doesn't mean you have to do it exact. Just make it better for your area. Color, size, etc...
Hey Mcfly nice seeing you in the shop the other day. Really enjoy your videos! Get at me if you are ever free to go fish I know some pretty amazing spots
No problem man! Yeah that helps for sure huh? Less waste. However it does take slightly longer, and therefor maybe not worth it? Depends I guess. This way I posted here is faster, but it does have some waste.
.020 lead free is about right size to tie down the spine of the hook. Will sink without sinking the dry fly. Also holds a chubby or the like down in surface making it a more realistic float.
after u cut thr material instead of rolling it in ur hand.. with the tip of ur nail while the fly is still in the vise.. pluck the end of the hook.. it will make the egg perfect..
Yeah I have seen that also, however for some reason it doesn't come out quite as perfect for me. Not sure if im doing something wrong. Maybe its the material I use...
Oh yeah, you can tie them larger for sure, I try to keep them small so they mimic a real salmon egg, but yes the larger ones are a good attraction fly as well
holyworrier ,I bet you are one of those people that turns your nose up if someone ask what you are using, sometimes being a purist makes you a Puritan, bet your wife hates being on the bottom all the time
@holyworrier why bother telling people your never going to tie this great egg pattern? And, as a bonus, eggs are part of the food that the trout eat that occur NATURALLY, so it’s the same as imitating a caddis larvae or a Baetis nymph. And, corn can work really good sometimes! So okay you purist, welcome to modern fly fishing
Anyway, please keep making these quality videos. Aa subscriber to your channel is really appreciate your work. Tight lines!
Oh thank you! For sure I will keep making videos
Good assessment. That's all the more reason to have a wide variety of sizes in your box.
I agree, yes I always try to keep many sizes of each fly when I go.

Oh thanks, man I can’t remember if I tied that fly on video, did I? lol! I’ll go back and check. Man I’ve done so many videos now, hard to keep track. Glad you like them man!
That’s right! Haha! Couldn’t remember I tied them for you guys. It’s a good pattern for sure
You're probably on to something there. I might try some smaller ones. But i've always had good luck with size ten and size twelve.

Nice tie. I use em for the steelies here

Nice and simple. Thanks.

Hey mcfly can i use the salmon egg color of glo bugs yarn?
Use any color you would like to! :) Its a technique video, but that doesn't mean you have to do it exact. Just make it better for your area. Color, size, etc...
McFly Angler thank you!
Hey Mcfly nice seeing you in the shop the other day. Really enjoy your videos! Get at me if you are ever free to go fish I know some pretty amazing spots
Also found a video with the pen method thanks for your advice on that!

Yeah still really helpful for tying. A little waste isn’t to big of a deal when first starting.
Maybe you could do another video! And possibly show how to make a smaller sized egg’ would be awesome really enjoy the videos
I will try. Give me some time to make it. I have a few other video's I'm working on right now.
will it be bigger and hold up well if you cut the yarn a little longer?
I’ve tied them on larger hooks much bigger yes
Would super fine dubbing work for this??
No probably not.
Sensacional !!!
Thank you
Hi I'm new to fly fishing would this be a go good dry fly dropper
Well this would be fine to drop behind a dry fly, with a little weight added sure.

+Natural State Angle thanks
You should show a clip of the fly when wet at the end!
Alrighty
Size 18 !!?? I tie these in 10 and 12.
Oh yeah, you can tie them larger for sure, I try to keep them small so they mimic a real salmon egg, but yes the larger ones are a good attraction fly as well
Harder to do than looks.
It can be yea. But once you get the hang of it, it’s not too bad
The quickest egg I'll NEVER tie. What's next? A marshmallow? A kernel of corn?
