Thanks for the video. It's helpful. I'm buying one tomorrow. Mechanically sounds, body and interior are rough. Price is good. Hopefully I'll get some use out of it
Good comprehensive info. Thanks. All true for many many other model n brand cars though too. Maybe less so on toyota prado, and newer generation sorentos, sportages seem to wear well. I had a 2012 diesel awd sporatage, garret turbo front 5mm nut came off ,vat 220000ks, destroyed turbo, i cleaned pipes, inlet, replaced turbo with low k 2nd hand one incl oil supply pipe/hos atvrear, a MUST do, went better. I'm looking at a terracan 2.9td at 230,000ks for a couple of grand, see how it pans out ;) Thanks for your good info here.
Did you buy it? I have the option to buy one for 1250€ in australia (2000$ Australian dollars) to ho camping with a rooftop tent. It has some oil leakage and the brakes and brakelines habe to be replaced. Do you think that could be worth it?
I ended watching this video with tears in my eyes to be honest. I bought last summer 2007 terracan 2.9 diesel model with 200k km milage - I changed it for faulty Pathfinder I bought in local car dealership, (for czech and slovak viewers - dont buy this kind of cars in AAA auto, especialy in cost range 4 -8.000€ its a fucking trap) so it was not my primary pick. Previous owner rode it mostly offroad judging by thicc offroad tires and quite robust hitch so the milage can be multiplied by 1,5 maybe 2 times. To just to summarize the defects found so far: -Loose steering wheel - car leans to right side even after geometry was done and change for new tires, also on uneven surface the play on the steering wheel is quite noticable. -Vibration when shifted on Neutral : after the engine heats up, you can feel the engine is not running smoothly but you can feel the car has uneven vibration/flow of the engine - most likely the injection is busted -Vibration of whole car when reaching 90 km/h - most likely because of the cardan - it has play on a cross by rear axle. -Oil Leak - oil leak on seal between the engine and transmission -Heating busted - you can regulate the intensity of the heating but not the temperature - after 20 minutes you have to turn it off otherwise it will melt your face down. -Rust - quite rusty chassis but not that bad, didnt check under the covers tho... -Roof skids are quite loose and need changing so I can say bye to rooftent I was planning to put on for now. -High Fuel consuptions- on full tank I was only able to make around 470km, the tank is 60l. which makes 13-14l. it should have 8-10l. -NOT A DEFECT BUT DESIGN I DONT LIKE - You cant fold backseats on one level with the trunk floor. I bought it for 5000€ euro and next investments are roughly more 3-4.000 so I dont know if I want to invest more money into it - seems like it will become a bottomless money pit if I add problems you have mentioned that will occur probably in near future. I mean the overall feeling from the car is good - its massive, perfect view, agile, its lifted by 2cm so in terrain so far is quite good. I currenlty drive ML270 Mercedes 4th year, 380k km milage with quite rough driving done on it and it seems its holding much better than this car. Considering I ll keep the ML and sell the Terracan at this point. IF I decide to keep it repair it all- I ll update this post with costs and rootcauses of each problem.
Well, what did you eventually decide? I am quite interested in this car as 3.5 l petrol, as a cheaper winter car. (Cheaper atleast that Chevy Tahoe or similar large SUV)

It would be the 3.5l v6 petrol as 4 gear automatic (highlander, so with some extras)
