    God I love that sound. For a lot of people vacations start when they arrive at their destination. For me, the vacation starts the second I get on that airplane. The power, speed, and the feeling of defying gravity the second you take off is the greatest feeling in the world to me.

      +The Red Viper Not to mention, that hot air outside makes the takeoff that much more fun! It's no wonder it can takeoff like a rocket.

    • @Quasihamster
      @Quasihamster 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Red Viper Well let's say the moment the plane begins the taxi roll. Those brain amputees trying to steal your seat and being unfamiliar with the purpose of an overhead bin lid... that's not vacation. That's labour.

      Mikosch2 lol yea boarding an airplane is a lot like getting on the bus in first grade to go on a field trip. A lot of unnecessary confusion and unwarranted yelling by the flight attendant (teacher) to take your seats.

    Oh I love that sound. I am from Long Beach. I will always remember this aircraft as the MD-95. NOT the 717. The DC-9, MD 80's 90's and 95's are still my favorite planes to fly on.

    To me, it will always be a DC-9. 717? Bah, humbug! Maybe "DC-9-717". I could live with that.

      DC-9-95, as it was originally supposed to be called before the Boeing takeover. Otherwise, I have a feeling McDonnell Douglas would still be pumping out DC-9 variants. The world would be a better place with more DC-9s...

    • @38911bytefree
      @38911bytefree 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same Here !!!!. This Jet is a PROPER DOUGLAS. At the end of its production life the called 717. Boeing has nothing to do with this mighty jet. It is an MD90.

    • @38911bytefree
      @38911bytefree 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@airbusman5514 The MD90 was killed way to earlier ... just have a look how Embraer and Bombardier filles this gap. The E-jets could have been MD-something jets. One of the best sellers of Douglas, they addressed regional prefectly, and started to worry about fuel figures in early 80s to made those more profitable. In the 90s the put top notch avionics, better engines. I dont see nothing that could prevent this plane evoluting to produce a wide catalog o regional solutions of even try to cover some space from the 319. Unlike today jets, plane lame and boring, The MD-90, 95 or whatever is such a beauty, is like your are flying on a bussiness jet

      +58biggles I loved the DC9s, too. They had smaller engines, and the pitch was quite a bit higher. Being totally blind, I made it a big deal to memorize those engine sounds. My favorite airplane to date is still the DC8 Stretch WhisperFan Jet. The only thing I didn't like about those was that fantastic startup sound the older 1950s and 1960s engines made. That incredible WhHHHhOOOOOoooooooo sound you'd hear just as the jets were warming up. There's a wonderful video here on YT featuring that sound, and once you've heard it, you'll never forget it. Trust me.

    Wow! That takeoff was amazing, and the Boeing 717 engines sounds great(Just like you said)! The 717 has one of the best thrust to weight ratios, and if I'm not mistaken, even more than the 757, which is known for being a bit overpowered. Great video, amazing views! The DC-3 at 0:57 is actually a C-47B for its cargo's configuration. My heart wrenched to see it sadly stands there as a lonely knight whose age has prevented him from action!

      Nope. That one isn't retired yet. As a matter of fact, that one had been converted into turboprop aircraft, so it has a long lifetime ahead. The designation for that one is BT-67, not C-47 anymore.

      +gnarkillkicksass Same same, but different. The DC9-30s used by TAA and Ansett look and perform similar to the 717, but the latter is naturally more electronically sophisticated. The DC9 just passed it's 50th anniversary. Imagine if new cars looked the same as they did 50 years ago!

    The 717 and MD-80 series (as well as the MD-90 series) were both designed by the same company, McDonnell Douglas. The 717 was originally designed to be sold by MDD as the MD-95, but after they were bought out by Boeing in the mid-90's, the MD-95 was sold by Boeing as the 717-200.
    So, they are very similar, and are both part of the same aircraft family/series, but they are not exactly the same.

    Question: is the Boeing 717 a newer version of the DC-9 or the MD-80 series? They sure do look alike. I remember flying on an AirTran (now Southwest, I think) Boeing 717 some years ago. Nice plane!

    • @mjr320
      @mjr320 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Niklas Enblom yeah it is the same airframe as the MD80 series which is also the next generation of the DC9 so basically same airframe with each variant getting more modern avionics in the cockpit and newer, quieter more environmentally friendly and more powerful engines but the boieng 717 which is the last of the variant is no longer in production

    • @coover65
      @coover65 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Niklas Enblom Just to elaborate on mjr320's correct comments. Boeing merged with McDonnell Douglas in 1997, while the MD-95 was being developed. This is the aircraft that by the time the first plane was built was renamed the Boeing 717.

    • @heatherstub
