It's her song. Not a kpop song nor blackpink song but rosé song. This how she want the flow, lyrics and style to be. And I believe its not the last she'll produce. It's just the beginning. More and more will come.
People are not so hyped about the song because they were expecting the typical hard-hitting Blackpink song, but actually I'm touched and happy about the song. It tells her story and it shows her color. It shows Roseanne.
trueeee, they really did rosé well with the song 💖💖 I'm so proud of her... It really does show rosé as a person and artist, and that's what I like most about the song
@SubtoPolecat324 yeah i too didn't like this song much but it's a great song. im expecting something like old blackpink songs like whistle, playing with fire and not the newer songs(ddd, ktl, hylt) but it is what it is. regardless, great song.
As Teddy said "¿what is kpop? We are just koreans making music". Forget your prejudices and try to enjoy the music. As PD said this is not "kpop" this is Rosé..
Koreans still have their own style/sound/vibe with everything from production to presentation and whatever else. That quote sounds good for a movie but in reality you can play electronic music for me and I can almost pinpoint the exact country or city it comes from. I've heard artists from Detroit have very soulful/funky sound but then move to EU for 10 years and it sounds completely different. Depending on your background music can sound very different, it's not prejudice it's more local influence based on where you've lived and who you've hung out with in life. Clearly with this release Rosé definitely seems to be very in tune with her English/Austrailian background going off the sound she went with here.
I totally get what you're saying about this being her style of music, the song screams Rosè. I saw mixed reactions about the song but honestly I really like it... It isn't something fancy or extreme, but it portraits the conflict between her true self and her Idol persona.
I think I like this as a debut a lot. Just like pd, I like when debut's are decent/good enough to grab my attention and then the follow ups define their solo career. So personally I enjoyed it a lot. I can understand why so many fans were upset, especially bcoz we had to wait for 2 years for her debut but I think they are forgetting that this isn't a comeback but a solo debut that only shows what the artists colour is and gives a glimpse of how the artist would proceed of they pursue a solo career in future.
@@davidpt It depends on our preferences. This might not have been impressive for you. But for others who are liking the song find this good. As a beginner soloist, Rosé has shown that she has found her purpose for her music which is really important for an artist. Her artistry might not yet topnotch but this is just a start of her journey. Along the way, she'll be able to find who she really is an artist. Another thing, this solo debut of hers just left fans wanting for more of her artistry an capability.
I think the beautiful thing is, BlackPink is so big no that Rosé doesn't have to care about this succeeding commcerically. That PD said, the numbers are going to be there. Just from hype alone this will sell. And that layer of commercial security in this case allows an artist to be themselves and express themselves fully. The truth is, if Rosé made the kind of music she wanted to make, she probably won't be able to make a living or maybe won't be quite this successful. But because she IS this successful, she can now carve out space to make music she wants to make. As for fans/people not liking the debut or song. There are two perspectives to consider. First: Once again, at this point, Rosé's solo isn't something YG needs to boost BlackPink's career. They're a the top. In fact trying to show more sides of their members are vulnerable and not commerically successful is the smartest thing YG can do now. Truth is, as big as BlackPink is, there's also a huge stigma of them being this manufactured group. This humanizes YG and the group, even if they have to tank some backlash. In fact the backlash almost helps YG. It's like "see, we aren't just putting stuff out to please mass market. We care about our artists and art." Second: what's an artist/musician to you? If you see them as means, as a machine or source that creates stuff for you enjoy, kind of like an entertainment service provider, then yes, i think to be deeply disappointed in the release if it isn't your cup of tea. Because in your perspective, the artist has violated the service contract. Meanwhile if you see artist as people who create things to express themselves, which you derive joy through appreciating it. Then you'll find some way to enjoy this release even if it isn't your cup of tea.
@@rikaze it's not that deep. She can do whatever genre she want like I said. I just meant the songs are too simple and underwhelming, that's the disappointing part. I never said she has to appeal to my personal taste
@@justlikeme2309 it's objectively not impressive. You can like it or not depending on your taste but it's quite bland lyrically and instrumentally. It's not bad, it's just not great
If you check out Jon Bellion’s music, which he helped with production, this very much so Screams his style. It also helps that Jon Bellion has wrote for TONS of other artists that have been straight hits.
YES not only the resemblance with blank space as some are pointing out but lyric wise as well (specially when she says "im way up in the clouds and they say ive made it now but i figured it out") IT JUST SCREAMS THE LUCKY ONE god i love that song
@@onlyuu5294 yes but tbh it charted pretty good considering it is qgainst a Viral Song (Rollin) and a Digimon Artist (IU) and the fact that it is an all english song. Still pretty good for a debut and also it the album 500,000 pre orders. It's qctually a successful debut
@@onlyuu5294 It's doing great for an English solo debut. OTG and Gone are both in Top 10 of all Kcharts. That's nothing to be worried about. Stability an longevity are the most important.
@@onlyuu5294 she’s dominating the kcharts despite the songs being full-on english. her competitors are VERY strong and yet she’s doing great when she just debuted days ago.
She also released a b side called "gone" it's more like a ballad song, and it's also all in english, the lyrics are quite emotional too. So yeah, i think this is Rosé's style of music, not my favorite personal style but i still like it and support her.
@Akhil Pullela true. Idk why but I think if I was Rosé I’d like my debut title to be Gone but YG wanted to be safe and chose OTG instead. Idk what I’m saying it’s just my opinion
Rosé was born in New Zealand, but grew up in Australia. And Jennie is fully korean, she just lived in New Zealand for a few years when she was a teenager
Rosie's parents are Korean, her ethnicity is Korean, born in New Zealand thus a Kiwi by birth, grew up in Australia her hometown, but she is a Korean by blood and ethnicity, she is Korean.
@@XxwalaweixX It's quite simple : She's Korean - Australian. Her parents are Korean so she is of Korean heritage and her nationality is Australian, born in New Zealand and raised in Australia.
i've listened to it repeatedly and liked otg more than gone. it just amazes me how YG was able to make her debut song so personal for rosie and so marketable. it's not everyone's cup of tea, but that's ok. rosie releasing a song that sounds just like her is enough for me. 😊❤️❤️❤️
PD is the only person who truly understands the deep meaning behind the song and lyrics, and not just saying “i like it” to satisfy blinks watching when in fact they dont like it at all
She did the most by doing not that much at all in the best way possible, she proved why she's the main vocalist in blackpink with these two songs, she just served looks and gave just pure beauty shots in this which is actually nice, something to slow down the train a bit, I would have loved to see her do a pure glossy pop EDM drop song as well but this was perfect for her, she looked stunning and didn't have to do all the extra stuff that blackpink is known for. I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed her just slowing everything down I can see her at a concert being proud to perform this song with just a simple spotlight and her in just casual jeans and a t-shirt and slaying.
Similar thoughts! I thought this was the most Rosé song they could have chosen. It’s real and relatable, very personal and grounded, but it’s also kind fun and sassy (that chorus). I probably would have disappointed if she debuted with something like Somi’s Birthday or similar (it was good for Somi but that whole bubble pop heavy EDM style doesn’t suit Rosé as a soloist at least for debut, not after all her cover songs being emotion-heavy). This reminded me a lot of Taeyeon’s solo debut with I. It was fairly simple and stripped down (I mean it was hella epic vocally cuz duh Taeyeon but still relatively simple in composition), and it primarily expressed her journey and emotions. It’s a great debut for Rosé.
I don't get why people hated this, the genre she used was new for blackpink and I thought the lyrics were genuine. People said that it wasn't good enough because it's not hype enough but that's exactly why it's so good as a rose solo
I totally agree with the points of this video. 1. this isn't KPOP in the truest sense 2. This is a vibe 3. Rose expressing herself in the language that she expresses herself well. 4. Rose i think would want to release 2 songs with her vibe rather than a full album where she just sings the songs some people made for her. If she fails in her solo debut then it wouldn't matter because she put out her "own" music.
this song is literally about her. she tells everyone that how she starts her career from 0. she tells us that even she already on the top but she still want to find her true self, like you can see during scene where she write her name Rosé and then Roseanne which her real name, her true self. even during she playing piano with another Rosé. I think she (Rosé now /wear pink dress) want to look back her past Roseanne (the white shirt) to make sure that she will not lost her true self, happy with her now, and see how struggle she go to the top like right now the mv tell us that, when we already work hard and get what we deserve, we can't forget about how struggle we are during past life, the most important thing is that we need to look back our true self, and never get blind by the success
Rosé explain why she pick both songs to be in English, She said that every song has a language that suits it the most. In the end, she felt that English fit “Gone” and “On the Ground” the best. Makes sense.
feels like i’m the only one who liked OTG first listen lol. i loved everything about it, i was even crying by the end of the MV. i don’t know if i prefer GONE or OTG tbh because there’s things i love so much about both. i was not disappointed at all. rosie wrote these songs the way she wanted to and it doesn’t seem right to me that people were “expecting more” like?? i thought it was obvious it would NOT be like every other kpop song but ig not.
Me too! I definitely loved it. I was surprised but then again I wasn’t when I saw lots of people disliking it. I think I prefer the title over the bside but I can see why people would prefer Gone. She really showcased her colours and PD explained it really well.
Yes they literally expecting a banger/dance track song lol . If you know Rosé she was a musician she definitely sings her heart out so I'm not expecting bp vibe and she reached my expectation. So i love it
I think the music video was brilliant in how it presented a storyline. It showcased Rosé’s career and journey from the regular girl, Roseanne, to Rosé the idol, and the conflict she faces as she feels that she is losing her real self. There are references to older Blackpink music videos, it starts off with Rosé with a chandelier, like her scene in D4, but the Chandelier falls to the “ground”. We see Rosé on the swing infront of the theatre like Jisoo in Stay. The car is similar to the car in Jennie’s solo. There are flames all around which give Playing with Fire vibes. The fire symbolizes how she’s burning down the fame. Her walking past a movie theatre represents how people assume her life as an idol is like a movie. And Rosé writing her name on the mirror like in As If It’s Your Last. We also see Rosé floating in the sky like she was in Whistle. These references reflect Rosé’s career and journey as Rosé of Blackpink. And when she sees herself playing the piano it represents her younger self as Roseanne during her trainee years and in her home in Australia before she was in Blackpink. When we see her write her stage name on the mirror, and then see the other mirror that says “Roseanne”, but no one in the reflection, it shows that she has lost part of who she is, she lost her true self in the process of becoming Rosé the idol, but in the end she goes back to her childhood home and reconnects with Roseanne. “Rosé” is wearing Black and Pink dress and scarf, which signifies her current idol self, “Rosé from Blackpink”, and her younger self Roseanne is wearing a white shirt, white to showcase the “pure” Roseanne before the fame, symbolizing who she was before she was in Blackpink, just a normal kid in Australia who loved music. A well thought out video that presents a storyline which matches the meaning of the song and capture’s Rosé’s essence as an artist. This is by far Blackpink’s best music video in my opinion.
Even if this is her solo debut and has only put out 2 solo songs, I immediately thought “this is so Rosé” when I heard the song. I’ve never heard a song fit an artist so much.
Damn I can't agree more with pd's words people do really need to watch this and appreciate it more even if they don't like the song, this gotta be the most soulful project done by a blackpink member (concluding the group's albums and songs) yet
My big problem with everyone’s reaction is most of the hate is coming from Lisa and Jisoo “fans” just wanting to make it about their Solos when this has been talked about probably since Jennie started talking about her own solo. I see most of the support coming from the other girls themselves and I know that regardless they’d support her but I could argue that the girls collectively support Rosé the most because she’s so soft and sensitive. That’s why I’m so surprised that I’m literally hearing nothing from Jennie fans about how jealous I feel like they should be at this point since she’s not even keeping up with her TH-cam channel. Yeah YG said tentatively that she might be putting out another solo project (Unless it’s actually confirmed) but most likely we wont be getting any appreciation from half of the fandom since those fans can’t enjoy their work as a whole.
@@LifeisMelody342 rose is my bias wrecker and i love her but her solo wasnt it. Like its not a bad song obv, but its just a cute edm/indie 2015 song and i expected a lot more. Like i didnt want a blackpink song but knowing rose i wanted a full indie/folk song like the last album by taylor or a more pop/ ballad song like drivers license. This is just old and kinda boring. I appreciate the lyrics tho coz its a clear message from rose not a generic love song.
@@Bohbohboh_36373 Rosé did what she likes. She, unlike other artists, was brave enough to try a very experimental sound for her debut. All the producers that reacted to it said that the instrumental was very very interesting bc it was unexpected, this mix of genre is not seen that much in the music industry. And that's why, some people loved it at the first listen, some didnt. Just like HYLT. Both songs have very experimental instrumental which can grab the attention or give a feeling of "nah it's not for me". She did what she is the best at. Being unique and different.
@@Bohbohboh_36373 But my point is there’s a very clear divide between the haters of Rosé personally like just because she has “an annoying voice” or accent or whatever stupid excuse those fans make and then they probably don’t even like the song itself because they were expecting Blackpink because they only see her as Blackpink and she’d never be successful otherwise. Rosé is my main Bias and Lisa for a long time was my Bias Wrecker, but after the crap when Rosé was building up to this and I saw a “Lisa Fan” actually physically comment on the song and say remember to DOWNVOTE Rosé’s song and when Lisa’s song comes out vote Way more than her. This is more than just the content of tone of the song anymore. I liked it for what it was, that it was Rosé. I especially liked that she had a hand in writing both songs and I just don’t see why she’s getting the kind of hate she’s getting.
I think YG really missed an opportunity on the live stage for her to a) play the electric guitar with their awesome live band and b) have a guitar solo. She's already going against the grain by having the whole thing be in English.
The first one is literally possible in her future performances. The second is not true. South Korea has been nothing but accepting of the song. Top 3 in all Kcharts say it all.
i think the choreo really suits the song too, i saw a lot of people who said they didnt like the choreo but i think is perfect for how the song sounds, as pd said, the song has a slow pace. It would be stupid to do an "energetic" choreo if the song is more laid back. I personaly love both the song and choreo.
This song doesn't need to much choreo because it is a mellow type beat song. This song doesn't have much beat to it, so I think the choreo fit to the song. The only thing I see problem is that there is no leg steps much, too much arms steps.
We are so used to almost the kpop vibes even in the artist solo songs that when they do some change and for this solo incredible amazing a solo song completely in English it was so refreshing the music the lyric and her voice this song need to be appreciate
Rose's music is so raw and emotional. No gimmick. It suits her vocals so much IMO. Plus, the message in OTG is so inspirational. For me it's a really great track.
@@roserain7034 there’s parts of the song I really like but overall it’s just not quite there for me which is a shame because I also love her voice and just assumed I was going to really like it
i wasnt a fan of this song bc i found it underwhelming but i really like gone. This one reminded me too much of taylor swift i think but gone is so catchy
I was skeptical when the first chorus came, BUT the last chorus made me love the song. The melody and inst. reminds me a lot of 2000's pop and it was kinda nostalgic.
Check out DJ Chadoll’s review of OTG and yes it is nostalgic and 2000’s rnb pop vibe. He describe this song as ElecTic RnB = Electric + Acoustic + RnB with a hint of Rock. 😁🥳
damn, this is literally the song i've been pointing out but i don't make a fuss anymore bcos i'm afraid rosé or me will be dragged for saying they have the same tune lol but both really has a big difference through out the song
Some parts of the song for some reason reminded me so much of Aussie/NZ music from the 90's, you can imagine there would've been some influence hearing it when she was growing up. It's crazy how much Rosé's English accent sounds exactly like an old friend I had back in the days. but yeah great reaction & I love the song!!
On the Ground is DEFINITELY a song that gets better with each listen. I had to listen to it a couple of times before I felt the “oh wait i love this song” feeling, and now I’ve had it on repeat for the last 2 days :)
What I like about Rosé debut is that you can see how she found her purpose as an artist. She finally knows what she want to be as an artist. And that's what's important for an artist. Her artistry might not be there yet but she has just started her journey as a solo artist. She has just started exploring her creativity and musicality. Eventually along the way, she'll just find who she really is an artist. With the experiences she'll accumulate, she'll be able to form her artistry and musicality which I'm really excited for. This debut of hers just left me wanting for more - her stories, herself, and her music. PS: Rosé said she wants to explore more music styles and wants to sing a Korean song in the future. That's something to look forward for.
her apple music interview was a bit sad since Rosé revealed that she had written Gone 3 years ago and had been wanting to release it since then but she had to wait for the company's approval of her getting a solo. She had to wait for a call as well for on the ground to be given the green light.
In the comments... You'll need to separate the music style of Blackpink as a group and Rosé as an solo artist. This song is the color and genre of Rosé, it's very personal. I don't know what You were expecting. It's like you always complain that Blackpink has the same style on every single comeback but When They go out with something new or another genre of music you'll hate it. Try to separate the word "KPOP". This song It's not Kpop at all, it's not in Korean and either have the basic kpop base... Is just music. If you don't like it, you can change the song, but don't say shit about the artist.
No but on the ground was actually disappointing, and I am huge rosé bias btw, but about them doing something different, they did that with gone too, and it worked, I LOVED gone sm, so I don't think it's an problem with doing something different but the song is actually disappointing
When you started talking about ”its so her color” and i started crying om just so happy for her and proud and i can really feel hoe much this means to her and how much thoughts and love she put into this album from the very smallest detail and im just so greatful she wanted to share her soul with us
I’m absolutely in love with her solo (both but mostly On The Ground) and I feel like I’m in euphoria when I listen to OTG, Gone to me is a perfect song for when I study or want to fall asleep. She absolutely nailed it and it shows her perfectly, just her
i wasnt too sold on this song at first (i dont know why) but theres something about it that kept bringing me back to it. Now i absolutely love it and have it on repeat! I think it was because it wasnt what i would expect Rose' to sing and i just love how she has smashed my expectations completely and brought a new, fresh sound for herself.
I really like the song, I prefer it over Gone by a longshot and I love the sound of the chorus, it's such a vibe to me. The imagery in the MV is great, the fact that it starts out destructive but the images turn more floral and bright. How you see Rose in the mirror when she's signing Rose, but the mirror is empty for Roseanne, suggesting the world sees Rose but not Roseanne because Rose is her musical persona. I also like that in the last chorus, the "what goes up it must come down" and "you're running out of time" are excluded because she accepts that everything she needs is on the ground. I loved the subtleties
i love her debut so much. completely obsessed w both her songs. i relate to the message she was conveying in on the ground; i've been tunnel-visioned into climbing the ladder for my entire young adulthood....i also abandoned the creativity i had when i was just a kid....and grew bitter as i aged on....but i've realized i can think of my own happiness. just need to look down and slow down! it's great to stop and smell the flowers before the present completely flees.
I have always loved her voice. With this release I also love the music and the message. For me personally I find it to be an incredibly powerful and meaningful song and it feels authentic.
Sir your reaction/interpretation about the mv is the best for me so far!! How you saw the connections of the every details with the lyrics. I was so excited to this mv that it took me awhile to realize she's not just showcasing her phenomenal voice but the meaning beneath each lines. Like how she wrote the name Rosé then lights off it turned to Roseann...plus the "Just drove by your house, So far from you now" yeah surely she's referring to her family & home coz she's been far from them since trainee days and thats kinda sad....hayss Rosé we ❣ you..for making the world realize..every thing we need is on the ground..the basic!!!
As a Blink I love the prechorus but the chorus beat drop was a little off putting at first, I do like how they switched it up a little each time. The visuals are also so aesthetic. But it feels so much like a western pop song so I’m curious what the reactions will be globally and domestically Edit: I love the lyrics too and it feels genuine which I love
PLS the Hannah Montana reference lmao but it is so accurate indeed. I don't consider myself a blink but I did look forward to this solo and it's sooo good. I heard there's ppl who are not satisfied w it, and it's perhaps those expectations to get that "kpop sound" that maybe let them down idk, but I find it interesting and bold for her to bring this unusual sounds, cuz at the end it portrays perfectly the whole concept of staying true to her roots and makes it even more authentic. I also REALLY loved Gone, I think it's my favourite out of the two but still both of them are really good imo
Agreed!!! It's totally Rosé song/genre... This song does show her individual side... I love it... That's why we called it Solo debut... It shows the person individuality... Love your reaction!!!
I feel like as I’ve listened to it more, it gets better for me, solely because of the prechorus (“I worked my whole life...” is sooo beautiful) but I do wish the chorus was grander to match the amazing prechorus... however, the choreography really was a let-down. I feel like there were some nice parts to it, like her literally on the ground😌👌🏽, but as a whole, it didn’t have the same caliber of a choreo as let’s say Solo (to compare it to a solo debut) or Whistle/DKWTD (which are songs with more laid back beats/instrumentals and cooler choreos). Literally the prechorus is gold (for me) which isn’t surprising since many BP songs have 10/10 prechorus’ imo.
But the lack of grander is fittig for the message of the song. Wouldn't it be ironic or even hypocritical if the message says one thing & the music & choreo say the opposite.
we've been talking about this in our BLINK group chat and somoene said the choreo is fine because she also needs to be stable while belting those tones flawlessly and I think it makes sense. As PD said, this is not kpop and it's not focused on choreo like BLACKPINK, it's Rosé.
I guess I can kinda see where y’all are coming from, and now that I think about it, it makes sense. She sung the song live very clearly, which was amazing to hear!! I still believe, though, that the choreo had sooo much potential and they went too “safe” or “easy” on it. There was some dull moments in it. I believe even if the choreo was a little more demanding, Rosé could’ve still pulled off those live vocals. I agree tho, this song does NOT need a difficult or extreme choreography. Just one that’s a perhaps more engaging? Idk 😅
@@slylover123 how I have never heard a kpop chorus like that. There is so many types of beat drops. I'm tired of people that have no idea about edm claiming all edm is the same.
I love this song so much despite it not being the genre I’d usually like. I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift for example and this song is very much in the same realm as her music as many have pointed out. Really goes to show how much personality Rosie has both in terms of charisma and her actual voice. She makes me enjoy music I’ve never actively chosen to listen to before. I fully agree that this song is simply a vibe
Rose was born in New Zealand and moved ro Australia when she was young. Jennie went to New Zealand for school when she was a child while her mom still lived back in Korea
I've been obsessed with this song & playing it nonstop for the past few days. I love it & think it suits Rose really well. I also think that Jon Bellion's involvement is another reason why I love it - I'm a big fan of his & he has a writer & producer credit on the song. You can definitely hear his influence in the drops.
At first I was suprised by how different the song was from what I expected, but the more I listen to it, the more I understand that this is Rosé's own style.
I was actually surprised there’s a choreo for this. She already performed this at Inkigayo. But if you listen this just audio, this becomes a mellow sound. She once mentioned that she misses their trainee days because those times, she’s always surrounded by music.
I loved the song at first listen. Not only is the MV so beautiful, but so is the song itself. The lyrics are so meaningful and they feel very personal. I think she did a great job, and even her other song "Gone" is amazing too
I don’t know why I’m always so emotional when PD reacts to Blackpink members, as soon as I saw this I stopped everything to watch it. PD is one of the very few reactors that I respect so much, I don’t think I disagreed with anything this man reviewed. He referenced Hanna Montana guys that was literally the best way to explain the MV ❤️
TBH, She wrote this and made this masterpiece to tell Her story. And not just to top the charts, and to please everyone. Only few people truly understands the deep meaning of the song. And its not about her being a member of blackpink but its about Rosè and Roseanne’s story. And she didnt made this song just for the korean audience. She made this to share her story to EVERYONE. Thats why its in english.

And when I pointed it out, you said "lmao. regardless," which means that it doesn't really matter. Well, it matters a lot, kid, all these people worked for these amazing songs(and you talked about the song, not just about Rose) and it's just fair to give them credit. I bet that you would feel different if you would have been one of the writers.
I was expecting this kinda sound personally, it definitely fits her style and just everything I know about the music she enjoys or likes to play. Even as a big BP/Rose fan it's not for me and I sadly can't get into it, but regardless glad she's doing what she enjoys and happy to see her succeed. Same with actors and actresses, sometimes you're just not gonna like everything someone puts out there, and that's fine imo.
I like the mature and emotional side of On The Ground. I was pumped for the song to come out. I had imagined myself screaming and hyping up Rosé when I heard the song and watched the MV, only to sit in awe and start crying when it ended. I have to admit that I love kpop music more than western music and being that I am a kpop fan for that exact reason, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t more lively. But it does suit her, as you’ve said. The meaning behind the song made me love it even more as well. In the end, I can see that the song is something she poured her feelings into, and I appreciate her for giving us a heartfelt track that people can relate on.
Rosé was born in New Zealand, but when she was 6 or 8 she moved to Australia! So, she grew up in Australia. And Jennie was born in South Korea, but sometime when she was young she went to New Zealand and stayed there for 5 years and went back to South Korea to pursue her dream of being an idol.
You got the video on the dot I feel. This was Rose's solo project, her words, her choice to use english on both her new tracks. Her choices, the way it should be. Side note, she did have some choreo at yesterday's Inkigayo performance, as much. as you can for this song. Good reaction and understanding of where YG and Rose are coming from.
I love the Hannah Montana reference haha, I think you were very on point with that actually. This solo project really does feel like Rosé (or Roseanne) showing us her true authentic self, and I love it.
to be really really honest. i actually love the song. i know that it is a bit underproduced, but i actually love it. especially rose's tone in the song and the dark dreamy synths in the chorus. they make me wanna dance at night on the street and run through a flower field. idk thats just my opinion
not really sure how i feel about the title track, but i really enjoyed "Gone". Both songs feel like they're really her style (different from BP) though which I can appreciate.
It's really funny cause this is the first time in 4 years that I personally REALLY like this kind of drop in a blackpink(related) song and everyone hates it lmao, it's kind of unique and interesting to hear it in this kind of song, where the texture and style is very different from what bp does and teddy produces but the drop is still his style and it makes it kind of different in a good way?? And I got to say that it's also the first time in 4 years that I am actually really touched by the context of a blackpink(related) song! Very personal lyrics, and I love this WAY better than the try-too-hard boss btch lyrics...I love empowerment but not when it's fake and plastic and ngl, I would LOVE to hear a full album from her and know about more personal stories she would want to tell us!
agree on the lyrics part, hence i couldn't get myself into blackpink. the boss b/itch energy/lyrics is just sooo overused, it's a great tactic and works extremely well in SEA but at the expense of their artistry. and the fact that it's also not lyrics written by them (mostly by men 😕), as you said it sounds plastic / fake.
BP grew and trained in a hiphop label and that’s their branding - black + pink without the cringey cutesy image which can be seen on their personality off cam.
@@pedrodias8248 ???? this fandom lmao idfc seems like y'all the ones who cry over my opinion. it still doesn't change the fact that it's overused and seems ungenuine since the lyrics were written by teddy and several other writers NOT them.
I think this is one of my favorite female solo songs EVER. I live for the pre-chorus and then that drop... AND Rosie has never looked more beautiful TT P.s. The choreo is insane, too!!
The song is really ‘Rosé’. I think she nailed showing who she is. The more I listen to it, and watch the mv the more I love it.
i must agree 🙌🏼
Yes when i heard it in the first time it feels so empty, but when i watched it more, I'm starting to love it

@@meerabzaidi9445 thank you!💖 I’ve got some others on my insta: salazartist, if you’d like to take a look
It's her song. Not a kpop song nor blackpink song but rosé song. This how she want the flow, lyrics and style to be. And I believe its not the last she'll produce. It's just the beginning. More and more will come.
It's an amazing song. Very chill and meaningful.
The fact that Rosé sang her solo in English made me have a sudden desire for Lisa's solo to be in Thai.
Same!!!
I highly doubt tho its probably going to be in english and/or korean
Maybe at least there’s a catchy line or two in Thai that would be cool
That would be very beautiful when she rap 😭
would be dope but some toxic af stans wouldn’t appreciate that sadly :(
I'm confused why people expected a BlackPink song when it's literally a Rosé song.
That’s the comment my people
LOUDER
True! I meant its her music 😌
shows how much people actually know her and are interested in her personality..
Exactly! Thank you!
LOUDER!!
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
G Dragon himself said a similar thing and for a good reason, I mean if these two are saying it...
THAT’S RIGHT
Koreans still have their own style/sound/vibe with everything from production to presentation and whatever else.
I think it's important to make a big impression in a debut and this just doesn't do it
@@davidpt It depends on our preferences.
We care about our artists and art."
Second: what's an artist/musician to you?
It's not bad, it's just not great
On The Ground has a strong Indie vibe. Others have said, and I agree, that there is a Taylor Swift sound to it.
If you check out Jon Bellion’s music, which he helped with production, this very much so Screams his style. It also helps that Jon Bellion has wrote for TONS of other artists that have been straight hits.
it definitely have a TS vibe to it and I love it.
Blank Space Vibe I think?
VERY early Taylor Swift-y vibe.
YES not only the resemblance with blank space as some are pointing out but lyric wise as well (specially when she says "im way up in the clouds and they say ive made it now but i figured it out") IT JUST SCREAMS THE LUCKY ONE god i love that song
a great solo for Rose that shows her vulnerable side, a brave choice but a genuine performance indeed
Yeaaa,but kchart huhuhu.

@Akhil Pullela welp...otg lyrics is bettter than gone.
@Akhil Pullela true. Idk why but I think if I was Rosé I’d like my debut title to be Gone but YG wanted to be safe and chose OTG instead. Idk what I’m saying it’s just my opinion
Same it's not my style but I love how she got the opportunity to do what she wanted. I really like gone on the other hand though. It flows better
Rosé was born in New Zealand, but grew up in Australia. And Jennie is fully korean, she just lived in New Zealand for a few years when she was a teenager
Rosé is fully Korean too, she was only born in another country, but her ethnicity is Korean.
Rosie's parents are Korean, her ethnicity is Korean, born in New Zealand thus a Kiwi by birth, grew up in Australia her hometown, but she is a Korean by blood and ethnicity, she is Korean.
@@hikunrosie3 I'm confused

Pd was one of the few reactors that actually got the message and didn’t label this as a love song. That’s why you are the best, pd!
uppp
i've listened to it repeatedly and liked otg more than gone. it just amazes me how YG was able to make her debut song so personal for rosie and so marketable. it's not everyone's cup of tea, but that's ok. rosie releasing a song that sounds just like her is enough for me. 😊❤️❤️❤️
Agree
Yesss. Their solos show their individuality and i love that!
YESSS
I'm not a BLINK but there's something about this song and Rose's voice here that made me fall in love with the music
me too. i might be just stan rose bcs of otg
1. this isn't KPOP in the truest sense
2. This is a vibe
No im obsessed with this song it's literally my type
So i love it
I'm here! 🖤
I thought of Somi's What You Waiting For in the first listen it gave that vibes.
I’ve never heard a song fit an artist so much.
im with you sis! it is very rosie to me too!!
count me in!!!
the more i listen to this song , the more it gets better,,,
Damn I can't agree more with pd's words people do really need to watch this and appreciate it more even if they don't like the song, this gotta be the most soulful project done by a blackpink member (concluding the group's albums and songs) yet
The most soulful project? Don't know what to do, You never know and Hope not are very soulful too.
She still had a gorgeous performance on Inkigayo tho and the Koreans like it too
i think the choreo really suits the song too, i saw a lot of people who said they didnt like the choreo but i think is perfect for how the song sounds, as pd said, the song has a slow pace.
@@officialthenathanielproject yeah i agree, well a lot of bp songs have the choreo like that to be honest, i dont know why

The song is the type of song that grows, it gets better... that's all I can say
I totally agree.....this all about Rose musically and lyrically. Congratulations Rose...you did yourself proud.
If anyone noticed why the "Every day Every night" sounded familiar, you might be thinking of Taylor's Blank Space pre chorus.
“Omg, who is she”
Yeah it has the same tune
Oh, I thought of GOT7 If you do 😂 but you're right
damn, this is literally the song i've been pointing out but i don't make a fuss anymore bcos i'm afraid rosé or me will be dragged for saying they have the same tune lol but both really has a big difference through out the song
Well Taylor Swift and rosé have the same producer.
6:04 she was born in new zealand and moved to australia so you're not wrong either way although rose considers australia her home 😄
Exactlyyyy

NO ONE SAID IT BETTER THAN U DO MY FRIEND.
This song is so emotional I almost cry every time and don't know why
the more I listen to this song, the more I fall in love with it! her vocals sounds so ethereal and sweet and I love the melody!💗
Well said.
Agreed
oh my god
wow
Her vocal is so vibrant. I don't think just because they "beat drop" are not enough or the song felt so "empty" making the song more less likeable.
i love her debut so much. completely obsessed w both her songs. i relate to the message she was conveying in on the ground; i've been tunnel-visioned into climbing the ladder for my entire young adulthood....i also abandoned the creativity i had when i was just a kid....and grew bitter as i aged on....but i've realized i can think of my own happiness. just need to look down and slow down! it's great to stop and smell the flowers before the present completely flees.
Rose thought about the most suitable language for her song to be more complete and perfect, that’s why she decided to make the song in English ☺️
the song honestly wasnt what i was expecting but i really love it and i can see how much of herself she put into it
I have always loved her voice. With this release I also love the music and the message. For me personally I find it to be an incredibly powerful and meaningful song and it feels authentic.
I was wating for THIS reaction
But it feels so much like a western pop song so I’m curious what the reactions will be globally and domestically
Edit: I love the lyrics too and it feels genuine which I love
Its well received both internationally and domestically.
otg’s chorus isn’t the usual chorus that we hear in kpop. it’s VERY different and that is what i love about it.
OMG same the chorus was so underwhelming it had every kpop cliche in the book
The live stage was RIGHT THERE you can check out the choreo ❤️
At first I was suprised by how different the song was from what I expected, but the more I listen to it, the more I understand that this is Rosé's own style.
i don’t know why i’m crying while watching this 🥺
I was actually surprised there’s a choreo for this.
It’s so satisfying to see someone react and get the meaning of the song at the first watch
Exactly !!!!
She co-wrote it, don't discredit the other people, there are a few names.
@@Legiandary If you think that it's okay to discredit people, your problem, I think it's cheap. And ofc that Rose has approved everything, I'm pretty sure that it's the same for BP, I don't see your point.
@@hades8831 bruh u srsly have issues. Did i say i discredit them? Were talking about the artist here and her album. U want me to enumerate all the writers and staff for u? 😂 stop being so sensitive and soft. Im just talking about rosè cause its her album. I didnt say anything against the others involved. Lmao. What a soft princess
@@Legiandary Soft princess? No, just a respectful person, you see me as a soft princess because you are a cheap/disrespectful person. It's honestly sad that we live in a world where there are people like you who are calling sensitive a respectful person like me... You said "she wrote this and made this masterpiece to tell Her story," if I didn't know Rose, I would think that she wrote it just by herself, you could have expressed it in a different way(maybe not really mentioning all of them, although it would be nice).
Do you know you look so cool?!!, so unique!!?... Thanks for this revew, always putting the things that a feel into words.
I was expecting this kinda sound personally, it definitely fits her style and just everything I know about the music she enjoys or likes to play. Even as a big BP/Rose fan it's not for me and I sadly can't get into it, but regardless glad she's doing what she enjoys and happy to see her succeed. Same with actors and actresses, sometimes you're just not gonna like everything someone puts out there, and that's fine imo.
u're very on point. honest but still supportive and shows that u know her. i wish some people would understand it like this.
I actually didn't expect this style of song from Rosé but i really like it. I love the vibe of both the songs, expecially gone.
Rosé is so down to earth, and prove to be a real artist in the soul plus beautiful and classy^^ .
The pre chorus is EVERYTHING!!!
ALL girls would die for those outfits she is wearing in the MV.
True especially the last one🥺
Some guys too :)
nope I wouldn't just like all my friends
i literally searched for the last dress but its expensive as FUCK lmao
You got the video on the dot I feel. This was Rose's solo project, her words, her choice to use english on both her new tracks. Her choices, the way it should be. Side note, she did have some choreo at yesterday's Inkigayo performance, as much. as you can for this song. Good reaction and understanding of where YG and Rose are coming from.
Tbh this song is so damn good, once you really get into it, you realize the story about it.
Thats what i felt. Its not Kpop. Its POP. ROSÉ at another level !
I love the Hannah Montana reference haha, I think you were very on point with that actually. This solo project really does feel like Rosé (or Roseanne) showing us her true authentic self, and I love it.
Truly hope Rosé watches this cause you explained this so amazingly
"ROSÉ's music" "her own color" yes, yes, all yesses
Yes, I agree, this is Rosé music and it’s beautiful
to be really really honest. i actually love the song. i know that it is a bit underproduced, but i actually love it. especially rose's tone in the song and the dark dreamy synths in the chorus. they make me wanna dance at night on the street and run through a flower field.
idk thats just my opinion
This was the best review I've seen for On The Ground so far
not really sure how i feel about the title track, but i really enjoyed "Gone". Both songs feel like they're really her style (different from BP) though which I can appreciate.
Wait PD, how did you just splurt out an entire video essay about rose by just watching it once?!?! BRAVO really enjoyed it!!
The Hannah Montana comparison made me laugh but it's actually so on point to explain the meaning behind the song: GENIUS.
Actually in the Blackpink documentary Rosé even said her life is like Hannah Montana LOL. Even I got some Hannah Montana vibes from this song aha
@@zuko_24568 yes
Thank you for your beautiful reaction 😊
Rosé is literally a queen
I love this song... the melody, the lyrics, rosé's voice and the visuals. This is Rosè's style and I'm glad she got to share that with the world.
Very personal lyrics, and I love this WAY better than the try-too-hard boss btch lyrics...I love empowerment but not when it's fake and plastic and ngl, I would LOVE to hear a full album from her and know about more personal stories she would want to tell us!
completely agree!
agree on the lyrics part, hence i couldn't get myself into blackpink. the boss b/itch energy/lyrics is just sooo overused, it's a great tactic and works extremely well in SEA but at the expense of their artistry. and the fact that it's also not lyrics written by them (mostly by men 😕), as you said it sounds plastic / fake.
@@luhsaraswati4258 blackpink are boss bitches and they're proud of it, cry about it
BP grew and trained in a hiphop label and that’s their branding - black + pink without the cringey cutesy image which can be seen on their personality off cam.
@@pedrodias8248 ???? this fandom lmao idfc seems like y'all the ones who cry over my opinion. it still doesn't change the fact that it's overused and seems ungenuine since the lyrics were written by teddy and several other writers NOT them.
HAHAHA THE MILEY ANALOGY OMG THE CLIMB WAS MY JAM. It was everyone's jam.
I think this is one of my favorite female solo songs EVER. I live for the pre-chorus and then that drop... AND Rosie has never looked more beautiful TT
P.s. The choreo is insane, too!!
I agree!
Thank you for your reaction to this!!!
if u still havent u should check out her other song gone!
Yup agree on you, this is really Rose itself through the music, so genuine and humble. The more i listened to it, the more i love into it!!
