On all my reverse image glass art I have used a product called; "Bon Ami Natural Powder Cleanser" ... I just purchased a can of it for under $7.00 Australian ... you just add a bit of water to it and i used a sea sponge ... Been using it for Gold Leaf and One Shot lettering enamel since the 60's ... also you really don't need to scrub it really hard. ... Just nice circle patterns ... then after that part, I hand buff it to remove any dust and then I "Prepsol - Wax and Grease Remover" ... I also use Prepsol on vehicles I pin strip and/or letter ... Silicon is in all these one application waxes that are used by most people since the 1960's ... causes "fish eyes" in the paint. Fun post ... thanks for your efforts.

I've just been asked by my Doctor (Vietnam War Vet and those wounds seem to always come back to haunt you when you get older). There is no cure for PTSD but they found ART Work has been proven to help veterans ... been doing work for classroom school books (No blood and gore, I was a Sniper, 101st Airborne in Vietnam) and several ones for private collections. I have a fine art degree and a business management degree ... move to Australia permanently in 1979 after 9 years US Army ... floating images on the back of glass with gelatine was a big technique used in Australian Pubs back in the depression period. Sadly after WWII there was a shortage of heavy (like 8-10 ML thick). Companies striped the art work off and used the glass ... if you own an original one now it's worth in the $25,000 to $30,000 price range, The Australian Powerhouse Museum has about 3 or 4 on display. ... it was the same technique used during the time of carriages as you would paint these elaborate coat of arms on "Gum Paper" and then wet the paper to remove it, add gold leaf sizing and stick the image to the carriage and then outline the image to seal the edge ... then do the ornamental pin striping and any lettering.
Joha, I spent 50 years as a sign painter in California US . Actually I began the glass guilding being "self taught " which may be not entirely true as many an artisan before me led the path before . One unique experience was when a elderly traveling sign brush salesman , including packs or full box of "Mannetti made in Italy gold leaf" wold send a post card to a locality announcing his arrival, which included many high quality brands of quills or "pencils ) as some old school guys would call them. His visit would be at a known shop and included a "glass guilding demonstration. For some reason the elderly gentleman... Isadore Posner took a liking to me and offered to give me a free personal lesson/demonstration on "laying gold on glass" at the motel he was at. l was then in my 20's and from the very beginning of becoming aware of signs as an art form...glass guilding was the most beautiful work and was fascinated with it. I had spent my earlier life working farm labor.. it NEVER occurred to me that ...Somebody has to do that " It's crazy that majority never see that as some professional endeavor just take it for granted. I soon became one of 3 specialists in glass guilding in a population of 500,000 city. I developed a way of..." backing up" laid gold by a method of silk screen. I would prepare the "photo film" by using the sun as a light source..exposing film for 90 seconds. Actually it involves more steps, but it was a very efficient way of producing "flawless " results. I also became well, known for my freehand pinstriping. Now at 77 have a good feeling about the fact that I made a good living, sent my daughter through State University and thanks for this vodeo. I don’t normally subscribe but I'll make an exception with you God bless Paolo M.
