    It appears that you're covering more than the number area with the water seize and applying the leafing to more than the area you need. Then when you're removing the excess gold around the numbers, how do the edges of the numbers not get removed as well? I'm confused about how the number area stays in place.

  • @darren7650
    @darren7650 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Is it called 'water gilding' because you use the clear gel pieces in the water instead of using regular leafing glue/sieze?? Is the water gild method what makes it so smooth? The glue methods are all crinkly, etc.

  • @Hex_tarot

    Im confused as it looks like you are placing it all over the mirror. Does the gelatine work as glue? And is the no.4 marked out?

      @@joha_mune I really like the idea of printing the vinyl stroke/outline of a sign and using the gold leaf for the filled in parts. i see that the letters are reversed on a clear peice of glass, i'm interested to know if it could work on a mirror, but i think the vinyl layer needs to be under the gold leaf, there seems to be a difference between using a vinyl sticker vs painting the lines with a pinstripe brush. I'm in love with the results you achieve.

    • @joha_mune
      @joha_mune 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello Sara, Hope you're doing well. You can prepare the size at your place and bring it with you to the location. You don't need the size to be warm for gilding. I have never used imitation gold, so don't know how it behaves. But with real gold, you need to burnish it to make it shinier and remove the wrinkles. On all my reverse image glass art I have used a product called; "Bon Ami Natural Powder Cleanser" ... I just purchased a can of it for under $7.00 Australian ... you just add a bit of water to it and i used a sea sponge ... Been using it for Gold Leaf and One Shot lettering enamel since the 60's ... also you really don't need to scrub it really hard. ... Just nice circle patterns ... then after that part, I hand buff it to remove any dust and then I "Prepsol - Wax and Grease Remover" ... I also use Prepsol on vehicles I pin strip and/or letter ... Silicon is in all these one application waxes that are used by most people since the 1960's ... causes "fish eyes" in the paint. Fun post ... thanks for your efforts.

      Hello, I'm really glad you like the video! Please subscribe and like it. It will mean the world to me. Answering your question, you need to make sure the water size is completely dry before applying the second layer of gold. It's hard to give you an exact time. The time depends on the weather. If its warm it could be maybe a couple of hours and if its cold could be a bit longer. A good way to know is to check that the gold has turn more shinny, like a mirror. Once it's dry you should be able to see your reflection on the gold. I hope this help. All the best, Joha

    i dont get how the water size just drips down in large amounts all over the glass and presumably over the edge of the letters but then you get the dead straight lines at the edge of the letters ?

      Hey Joe, I'm not really sure if I get your question. For the water size to flow down in large amounts the glass has to be grease free and very clean. Otherwise the water won't flow well. To get the straight line, I first backed up the gold and then painted the shadow. I hope this help you. Please don't forget to subscribe to my channel. That will help me to keep sharing more content and it will mean the world to me. All the best, Joha

      I agree. You don’t explain how you achieve exact straight gold edges. The water is dripping all over the place and you plant the gold in patches. The technique is not obvious at all

      @@joha_muneI think some of us (me!) are not familiar with back up paint. We watch detailed instructions on how to lay blocks of gold on glass -- then you suddenly speed up your process on video and we don’t understand how you cut out or chipped off the gold to end up with a crisp final result. Am subscribing.

      @@illustratrice hey, it's lovely to have you in our community. Please keep in mind that this video is focused on gilding not on sign painting. That's why the backing up part is speed up. As well, how to back up and sharp edges are techniques to work on glass.
