I am working on the frog page in Maria Trolle’s book right now and need to finish that one up first. Then I’ll see what I can do. I’m loving this book.
I prefer doing many very light layers. So both Polychromos and Pablo do very well for me. I cannot do pressure or burnishing because of arthritis. The worst way to hold a pencil is using the death grip. Pencil artist Bonny Snowden says if you push hard enough to dent a ripe tomato with a Polychromos in your 1st several layers, you are pressing too hard.
I agree with several light layers with the Polychromos. They are very different from the Prismas, but now I can switch back and forth easily. Another set I have fallen in love with are Phoenixcolor 100 Colors of China. Not only are the boxes they come in stunning works of art by themselves, these oil pencils perform beautifully, including Johanna Basford books. I have arthritis issues as well, so I appreciate pencils that 'flow' easily on to the paper.
I know you say you prefer to use the polys dark to light, but i find they blend better if for the first layer i go light to dark, then go dark to light, that way I get a good base coat with no transition lines. I know you are an expert and better than me, its just the way I ensure i get a better result.
I totally agree that struggling with a pencil to get it to go down nicely isn't worth it!!! 👍 You love your Prismacolors, which is why so many of your videos are Prismacolors!! 🥰 I'm so glad that doing that let's you get the therapeutic benefit that coloring brings!! 🤗 I'm curious if you tried a blender on the Polychromos area that you didn't like? I could tell that you were so disappointed with the blues that didn't blend well. Even in the closing thoughts you had what l guess I would call a sigh tone to your voice like you were resigned to it. Bless your heart! ❤ If it still bugs you and you haven't tried it, give it a go and share the results. 🙏
Great video. I am glad you address the learning curve with the polychromos. I don’t own any Johanna Basford books yet. But I’ve been struggling with my polychromos in my Kerby books. This is helpful for beginning colorists ❤
If you want to try a Johanna Basford book, take a look at the new Rooms of Wonder book. I've only had it a few days but it's already my favorite of all her books!
After I purchased my first Prismacolor set, my Polychromos are basically forgotten. I just don't seem to enjoy working with them anymore for the exact reason you showed in this video: blending and pigmentation. Thanks for the video, Pamela.
They are just very different than Prismacolors. If you've been using Prismacolors for a long time then go to Polys, it's a bit of a learning curve. Even the paper makes a difference with all pencils. Happy Coloring!
I’d also like to see you test the markart colored pencils in rooms of wonder…. I’ve been using them in my copy and they work well for me. But I also have the Uk version so it might be different from us version
Since you have so many pencils, can you do a review comparing more artist grade pencils? I have prismas, derwent artist, drawing, inktense and coloursoft, blick artist, soucolor, amazon, staedtler, cezanne, fc albrecht duhrer, crayola, fc classic, castle art metallic, indra pastels, koh-i-noor magic and woodless. I have tried open stock luminance, fc polychromos and holbein. I would like more info about how the pencils I do not have lay down...before I buy more pencils.
Oh goodness! I think you have more pencils than me! Are you wanting me to compare other pencils in this particular book or just compare them in general?
@@PamelasPassionforPencils in rooms of wonder would be great, but I was thinking for colorists like me, who are no longer beginner, and don't want any more budget sets, but aren't sure about Pablo's or lightfast, etc.
Interesting techniques enjo3video and wztching ypur video love to eventully purschase this coloring book and a set of prisma colors some day in the future...
Beautiful work. I was wondering what printer you use to scan and copy images/pictures onto thick paper/card. As I am wanting a printer so I can put images on appropriate paper as some colouring books have inadequate paper.
Hi Pamela! Thank u so much for your video comparison about the type of paper. I'm a little bit concern about the spine of the row book because the early books from kerby rosanes have had a fragile spine and it bends quite easy. Is row more firm on the spine?
Have you tried your Holbiens on this paper? I love this paper! If reprints are issued on this paper, I’d buy them all again. White paper just makes the colors pop beautifully.
I have the UK version and am wondering what the difference is and if you have been able to get a UK copy? I have two, one from Amazon and one from book depository, I am in Australia and both copies are UK paper.
It is usually a difference in the paper and cover at may differ slightly. In regards to this particular book, though, the UK version has a removable jacket cover, whereas the US version has no jacket. I am sure the paper is different as well. Someone has probably already done a side-by-side comparison on TH-cam.
PRISMA COLORS: USED TO BE BEST IN WORLD. NOT ANYMORE. BROKEN LEADS INSIDE PENCILS. WARPED LEADS INSIDE PENCILS. HARD, SHINY AREAS ON PENCIL TIPS. HORRIBLE PRISMA COLORS SHARPENERS. WARPED LEADS INSIDE WOOD, OUT OF ROUND LEADS. AWFUL! GIVE ME : POLYCOLORS, ANYDAY! AND MUCH CHEAPER TOO!
I love this book but to be honest shes not an artist I would choose to buy into if it wasn't for better paper quality. I find her previous books repetitive and basic
Can you do a video with you doing an entire page? I love how beautiful your segments are. I'd love to see a completed page!

I feel the same with my polys in my Kerby book as well … I always have to use a blender. (But I actually do really like them in World of Flowers.)
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for watching!
This is a very good video! I’ve used Brutfuner square pencils and I’m enjoying the smoother paper too.
Oh I need to try those in this book.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils would you possibly try the arrtx as well????? Ty
@@tabbylynn4130 it seems a lot of people want another video trying different sets out in this book. I may need to do a poll.

Im currently using Crayolas in this book and they seem to work pretty well. Like the Polychromos, they work best with using light layers.
I still have to pull out my Crayolas to try them in this book. Thanks for letting me know.
I will always love Crayola ❤

Would love to see you test advanced and budget pencils in here.
I will be doing some budget sets very soon.

Cant wait to see the video😊
I hope you enjoy it.
With Polychromos, I generally use solvents to assist with blending.
With polychromos you need to build and blend lightest to dark last. It's the opposite from Prismacolors.
I have always preferred using my Polychromos from darkest to lightest. I have done it both ways and this is what works for me best.

I absolutely love the white paper too. I haven't tried my Holbeins just yet but plan to.
The holbeins are great in this book. I loved it when I first received it. All of my sets of pencils work lovely in this book.
Would you consider doing a color along tutorial color and chat with Pablos ❤
great video, thank you
Lovin it 💕
Thank you 😊
Your welcome 💕
Can we still get Joanna Bsford's World of Flowers in the original paper?
Of course you can! amzn.to/3URrjfK

Can you do a video from rooms of wonder using black widows? X
I put a poll up in my Facebook group to see which set everyone wants to see next and Black Widow is in the winning.
Would like to see try the Pablos and coloursoft pencils in this book, please.
