    I am exactly like you in the regards of "No thank you I don't want to socialize and get out a little more. I'm quite fine with being by myself." I hate it when someone tells me to go out more, to be around people more, when that is exactly what makes me feel terrible 9 out of 10 times. Not everyone is a social butterfly and needs people around 24/7 and that's totally fine. My cousin for example is the exact opposite. If she's not around people, something's wrong I feel like and that works for her perfectly. No need to tell her to socialize less, so why tell us, who are differently inclined, to go out more?
    I love the colors of the background :) I'm excited to see the rest of this!

      After I read your comment I realised I'm wearing my 'anisocial butterfly' hoodie - it has the logo on the chest and blue and purple butterflies down the sleeves :)

    Windy on hot days? Quite a few years ago I was on holiday in Northumbria (gorgeous place) and was doing a walk up Windy Gyle (well named). As I walked up from the lower ground I got sunburnt ears where they poked out from my cap/hair. But when I got to the ridge it was so cold that I met up with others who were sheltering in a depression in the land whilst we all layered up with everything we had in our packs before continuing on into the wind. Great walk but an incredible contrast so I got that day a taste of what it must be like on your farm. You can tell I’m commenting as I listen along - can’t you. 😉

    Hullo Gem, I am so glad you are doing well and coloring, not that you have ever stopped but I remember when I first left college and was hired as a colorist. Basically coloring others linework. This is so similar to the new rage of “Adult” coloring becoming an art form in its own right! Thanks for the Scottish lesson I do look forward to them! I recently purchased yardage in my family tartan, it was from a company in Scotland and 11 yards was the minimum and I got a 25 yard piece of McBride Tartan! I am just going to have my wife sew some scarves and head wraps(I forgot the actual name) I was thinking of a modified kilt but I have certain garment requirements that are difficult for seamstresses I have a lot of very loose clothing. I am glad that you have a verbosity rich video style. I am prone to run-on in the comments. Another splendid coloring video, see ya next time 👍🏼

    You know, with the pandemic lockdowns, etc, I loved it. As an only child, I felt relieved not to have to be expected to be places with ppl. Happy to be on my own. But....my husband is a middle child of 13!! He loves to be with ppl🤣 I feel you my friend.

    Hope you and Mr Gem had a lovely time. I personally think that men should wear kilts! Men look really darn good in kilts! They are very practical too. Or can be. Have you ever heard of utilikilt? Specifically designed for people that carry tools. I LOOOOOVE the colors you chose for the background! They are so pretty! Perfect backdrop for a woodland scene. I did buy this book but having started a new job and finished Inktober, I have no time for coloring.

    I love the background. It looks so serene, just peaceful to me. I love blues and greens. Thank you for showing the colorless blender, I do not use colored pencils very much, and I have never tried to use a blender. I do not have this book, but I do have Lost Ocean. I am excited to try using this technique on a page now. Have fun at the party. I get where you are coming from. Social events can be fun, but they often leave me exhausted. Today, I am going to try to purchase a blender and give this a go.

    I love the way you did this. I love my Rooms of Wonder. I too am not a big socialiZer in my spare time. I work all week with adults with disbilities, and like quiet time on my days off. People als!o tell me I should get out more. Its not my thing. If they like it, good for them

  • @blackrose538
    @blackrose538 ปีที่แล้ว

    People would probably tell me to get out more, too. But to be honest... I love spending my time at home in the company of my cat and family members that come visit sometimes. I'm just not very outgoing. Perhaps if I had a partner that was more outgoing, he would probably get me out more, haha. But only because I would want to spend my time with him 😅
    That background looks so beautiful :) I think I would've coloured the image first and then do the background in soft pastels. But only because I do like using them for that purpose. Might consider getting this book some day. I already own Ivy and the Inky Butterfly and also Enchanted Forest.

    As soon as your video popped up I squealed as I had been thinking of doing this page. Not watched all of it but I will follow every stroke. Brilliant choice of page. On a side note. I’m currently colouring the dressing room page and have no idea how to colour the mirror so a tutorial on glass would be welcomed. 🥰😀

      Someone else asked me about this the other day - I don't think it was a mirror, I think it was more glass, but it's strange that I've had two requests for the same thing!
      Might be able to squeeze that in before Cavemas, we'll see...

    Not just Scotland that old fashioned radios were so called - but here in England for us folk who remember such old fashioned radios. In my innocence I didn’t realise it would mean anything else - I need saving from myself sometimes. 😊

    My husband is Scott-Irish, Gallagher and Kinkaid. Plus although I'm Sicilian by blood, I'm adopted and my dad's family were Rendelman and Hanley, so those wonderful little Scottish terms are fun for us. A nice little trick that I learned with the Prisma blenders in order to avoid them burnishing the paper is to warm them slightly with a lighter before using them.

    I love your colouring, I now need to get this book to follow along. Where did you buy your Prismacolors in the UK? I only got the 48 set on Amazon. I wondered if there is someplace where you can get it openstock to build it up over time because it is so expensive.

      Yes there is! Emma at the Coloured Pencil Shop ( colouredpencilshop.co.uk ) seels a few brands open stock and it's where I buy my replacement Prismacolors. The 48 set was my first 'big' set too.

    I was wondering how I would deal with the 'floating shelves' as they don't seem to be screwed onto anything and I think making the background a solid mass would look weird. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

    Yay for coloring with Gem! Or colouring. 😊 The new paper and my pencils aren’t getting along. The color just sits on the surface and wobbles about Willy-Nilly. Any tips for toothing up slick paper? I’m kind of thinking of just sacrificing half the pages and using alcohol markers since they like the smooth slick paper. 😞

    • @TheColourCave
      @TheColourCave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gesso is an option, but I don’t like the way pencil behaves over the top- it feels too toothy if that makes sense?
      Any time I do go down the gesso route I use a hard pencil like the Derwent artist.

    • @Mirrigold
      @Mirrigold ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you got the US version Legalpeon? I think you might find (bizarrely) a budget pencil works better, I've seen a few people using Brutfuner on the new book, Johanna has used her Staedtler and also Arteza but I think she might have been in the UK book. You could also get the UK version from Book Depository.

    • @Legalpeon
      @Legalpeon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made a test section with gesso to try. I do have the Derwent Artists to use on the test section when it cures. Thanks! And, @Mirrigold Ido have the US version. I’ll give the Brutfuners a try!
