I´m Dutch. We have one of the biggest gas fields in the world. When discovered in 1959, it was the biggest on the planet.
We stopped using it recently, because it caused moderate earth quakes. The government is able to compensate the local inhabitants very generously for all damages caused, and still make a huge profit.
But they refrain from doing that, telling me they WANT this crisis. No need to blame Russia.
Germany has plenty nuclear power plants, but their govenment prefers coal and Russian gas. Again, self inflicted.
Destroying their own economy while blaming Putin, Trump, Covid, climate change, or the common folk. That seems to be the trend, lately.

The Europeans already got together and agreed to a plan to end Russian gas/oil supplies over a period of time, along with a plan to collectively ration gas if Putin decided to cut off supplies early. Wion doesn't mention that because it doesn't fit the narrative that Europe is somehow surprised by all this. Europe is prepared for Russian gas supply to end tomorrow.

They will stop using Russian energy after they secure alternatives. Russia also can't just shut of taps overnight because they depend on the revenue and their contractual obligations. It's easy for you to write that from the comfort of your keyboard but try putting it to practice while running the third largest economic entity in the world and you'll see what a cake walk it is. That’s exactly what USA Or EU would have done if they were in Russia’s place. Russia is demonstrating they’re a *reliable business partner* and don’t use its contracts as blackmail or a weapon. This fact alone proves USA/EU narrative “you depend on Russia’s gas, russia uses it against you” is false. Russia has never used its contracts as blackmail to force countries to do what it wants. This also shows other partners they won’t use their gas/oil sales against them. Now let’s fast forward and get to the point when Europe won’t depend on Russian gas anymore, who will they depend on? Yep... USA.... can we really say USA doesn’t use its contracts/sales as blackmail against its partners?! After them blocking, essentially STEALING 300bln of Russia’s reserve’s, after thousands of illegal sanctions, after unilaterally abandoning its contracts with Russia, after forcing other countries to put sanctions against Russia which are NOT in these countries favour, after walking all over the laws on private assets and so on and so on. When Europe will depend on USA with its gas/oil - their sovereignty will seize to exist completely. USA will be in full control of Europe. Or do they really think they will buy gas/oil a little bit from random countries? Yeah right lol 😂

The EU is not representing the interest of the European people. It is just a puppet of US, British interest. This is the time to cut the strings and create a new independent EU that is democratic, that does represent the people, and is a reliable power to other countries.
First thing to do is stop the war simply by not fueling it. For EU citizens both Ukrainian and Russian lives matter.
Second thing is to mitigate the damage caused by the food shortage.
And then we might regain trust of those countries that we lost. This is crucial for future stability.

The biggest problem is another on the long run. Many European nations enjoyed a huge competitive advantage in industrial production thanks to the very low price of Russian gas and oil. Germany, the Europe's locomotive, despite having a high labor cost, exported a lot thanks to the low cost of energy. This is no longer the case, because gas and oil imported from other countries cost a lot more. China and India, on the other hand, have never stopped importing Russian gas and oil, so in the near future their products will be even more competitive than Western ones.
I anticipate the closure of many industries in Europe and massive layoffs in the coming years. The most penalized will be energy-intensive commercial activities.

European nations have thought Russia is dependent on European money. Remember there are so many takers for oil and gas in the international market. If you think you are the only one, then you are absolutely wrong.
Remember customers are not kings as opposed to what we listen to in our daily lives, especially when there are others to buy your products in abundance.
Not to mention these European countries think they are rich and no one goes against them, but they got rich because of Russia, so you need to keep that in mind.
Never annoy your boss, else you will become a beggar overnight. The longer this war prolongs, the more vulnerable Europe gets.
Globalization is a concept created by western nations to reap its benefits. If tomorrow the world decides to go independent, European nations are the first nations who go bankrupt and become the poster boy for poverty-ridden nations on the planet.

They didnt ger rich because of Russia, they got rich during the soviet era, when Russia was an adversary. We have been naive in thinking that Russia had changed and could take part in peaceful cooperation. We ignored the signs, but now see clearly that Russia is still a totalitarian regime. They invaded a soereign democracy that is now asking us for help. Were we supposed to watch as Russians execute Ukranians in the streets and shell entire cities?

@@peterpeterpeter6315, interesting! You have no respect for the middle east lives, but you got respect for Ukrainians. This must be the highest order of double standards.
Go and tell these moral values who listen to this western BS, not us.
Speaking of standing against Russia, you simply can't. If it comes to that stage, Europe is the one who is going to lose everything by standing against Russia, which is why you collaborated with the US in NATO.
The European Union has only got economic might and that too will be gone with sky-high oil prices and gas.
You will see a decline in the European economy in the upcoming years. You simply can't take on Russia just like Ukraine.
Russia has enormous power to even topple European governments with its oil and gas control.
You must stop supporting Ukraine. If not, the decline is not very far for Europe. The longer the war goes on, Europe will lose leverage over Russia. In the long run, it's Russia that benefits from this conflict.
He already planned a different currency system in BRICS, which is 25% of the world GDP. Imagine that kind of economy getting rid of international currency. The consequences are going to be devastating for the western world.
Not to forget the refusal of accepting Euros which could make the euro lose its value in the international market.
You (the EU) simply can't go against Putin. He's too powerful to go against, especially when the rest of the world is supporting him financially.
In the upcoming months, even African and South American countries will also seek the help of Russia for oil and gas.
Europe is just like Ukraine, except for a bigger economy. Putin won't take his chances unless he's pretty much sure of his success. He's a KGB agent. Remember that. Not your usual western politician that barks whatever the garbage that comes from his mouth. He only talks when its absolutely needed.
