    Thanks so much for watching guys! Obviously China is pretty massive, so you can only see so much in a 5 week trip. Which places did I miss? I would love to hear your recommendations for my next visit, plus it would be really helpful for anybody else who is here when planning their China trip! 😊

      Hey eknak, thank you so much! Really glad you've been enjoying the videos. Ah yes Chengdu and Zhangjiajie were two places that we had to leave out with heavy hearts... I really wanted to make it to Sichuan as well... Thanks so much for your suggestions. They are making me want to start planning my next trip! 😊

    1. Spicy food (UNESCO food city)

    3. Largest building by volume (New century Globe Center)
    4. Science Museums

    Just wanted to say that I love your videos! So informative, beautifully shot and edited, well paced, and most importantly: good quality audio! You come very close to filling the Bourdain-shaped hole in my life, so kudos to you!
    If you guys are ever back in Malaysia, be sure to head to Borneo. So much amazing rainforest hiking and kayaking, great food, the most friendly and hospitable people. Kuching is a great laid back city that we totally fell in love with, and my wife and I are planning in moving there in a few years. ::fingers crossed::

    I know you said this video was for people going to China for the first time. I have been twice but I had no idea about the lesser known places. You guys did so much in 5 weeks, I thought you were there much longer. Looking forward to the Japan series. I have been to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Okinawa, but I know there is a lot more to the country than that.

      @@OneShotAdventures I would recommend Hangzhou and Nanjing if u like the rich han cultural City, they were closed to each other with amazing historical building and ultra-modern skyline, and you definitely need to check out Harbin in the winter, because it has beautiful Russian influenced building and most amazing ice festival in the planet( just search it you will get amazed), and there are unlimited travel destination in Tibet Xinjiang, you can find scenery comparable to Switzerland in Tibet(eg: Yubeng 雨崩)uncompareable mountains and lake in deeper Tibet(查理木 chalimu and 伊犁yili)in Xinjiang, and more and more, you can find the beautiful prairie and desert in inner Mongolia, they even hold an enormous festival called ALXA FESTIVAL there every year th-cam.com/video/weEXiCSYDfk/w-d-xo.html,you can cheak it out, however, this is just a very rough brief to the tourism in china, China still offers way way way more than I mentioned,th-cam.com/video/QJJKfyaYsO8/w-d-xo.html This a video covered some scenery in China, you must see this, if u have further request just ask me

    So great series Ryan. As a Chinese I’d like to recommend you to explore more awesome places but it depends on your preference. For the natural scenery I would recommend 玉龙雪山 or 轿子雪山 or 梅里雪山 and 西双版纳and 香格里拉 and 稻城亚丁, all of these are in yunnan province. Go north, 九寨沟,峨眉山,成都 in sichuan province. From sichuan or yunnan, highly recommend you experience driving to Tibet. You can use some apps to find the mates to go there together. But please be prepared for its extremely high altitude. So many places worth to try. I just can’t list all of them here. Which I’ve listed are enough for you to get another long term adventure. Hope it’s helpful for you.

    Six year American resident of China here. For translations and directions on your phone without using a VPN, I'd recommend using WeChat for scanning things for a translation. It's a free app. Also, for Google maps, you can pre-download city maps. Or use Baidu maps. However, I don't think this comes in English--at least, not yet. But it's visual, so even me with my crappy Chinese, I've been doing alright with it.

    • @OneShotAdventures
      @OneShotAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for mentioning WeChat - it's something that I remembered as soon as I posted the video. We never got it ourselves, but I remember it being used for everything by locals. Definitely a good tip, but it right that it's only downloadable in China?

    • @quibily

    Hey Ryan, i hope you answer this question. So i‘m currently in Japan an visited tokyo and kyoto and all that and i‘m going via Seoul to Peking in about a week. I‘m planning also to hike a lonely part from the chinese wall like you did. How do you managed the bus rides though? Did you just walked very far and then made a turn to catch the last bus back to Beijing or did you walk from A to B and took a bus then?
    Marc 😀
    Of course if someone else has the answer or tips, i would be very thankful!

    • @OneShotAdventures
      @OneShotAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marco hey Marco! I did three trips to the Great Wall when I was in China. For Jinshanling and Mutianyu we walked for a while then turned back to catch the bus back. But when we visited a lonely section we stayed at a homestay in the countryside. So we completed a 4 hour loop that took us back to the village by evening where we slept for the night. The homestay was called Great Wall Fresh and I would highly recommend booking with them. They will advise you on the best hiking routes.

    Google translate does not require a VPN to use. Confirmed just now. You just need to download Chinese first to use offline. Microsoft Translate also works on and offline without a vpn.
