    Thanks for the video. I replaced my shaft oil but next time I will use 90w you used. Also, like the liquid gasket idea.

    Hey!! Just found your channel! Looking forward to more content on this outboard. One thing I’d keep in mind with oil selection is that fact that this is an air-cooled engine & Marine 2T oil is typically designed for water cooled engines. Haha I really wanna strap one of these to a 8ft Inflatable Dinghy. 😄

      From what I’ve read regular 2 stroke oil and marine 2 stroke oil are basically the same except marine is slightly less smokey. Either are fine.

    Great video. Thanks for including the clutch part number. I’m going to get one for back up. Also, people say that the pull rope is low quality. I’d consider replacing it and also carrying a spare.

      I've been lucky for 14 uses so far. Getting a back up would definitely not be a bad idea, especially if you don't have a trolling motor as a back up source to get your back to the dock.

    I used the Walmart stuff for a tank or 2 and ripped it as hard as she’d go. Then I switched to the same stuff you got.

    A little bit of brake cleaner would be helpful in cleaning out the old clutch pad dust.

    You should check under the exhaust for a screen it is a spark catcher. It is prone to carbon buildup with two strokes and will block air flow. Clean it or remove it. Why have it if running on water?

      Thanks for the tip! I'll check this out

      Spark arresters are used on marine engines because gas vapors can build up in and around boats more so than on lawn equipment. One spark on a boat with fumes could be a quick end to your day of fishing.

    Hi there, I have one of these sican outboard motors, but my fuel tank cracked on my last trip to the lake. Any idea how to replace the tank?

    Hi, Pat, I would like to get your input. I have a Lifetime Wasatch canoe, 13 foot long with 600 lb max load cap. I have a Minn Kota 50 lb. thrust trolling motor on it and is working great. My question is from your experience with the Sican Outboard motor, is it reliable enough to back-up my battery-operated trolling motor?

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      As a back-up? Yes, as long as you constantly change the fuel in the tank so it's fresh. But I wouldn't use this for fishing as it's super loud..

    Is there a way to grease the shaft?

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure actually. The main housing just seems hollow for the most part so it seems like any grease just ends up at the very bottom anyway.

    Hey man I have a 2.5hp one of these motors do you think this clutch would work in it

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would think so, but I recommend taking apart the motor and measuring the diameter and check the markings on it to see if it looks like the clutch I installed before considering ordering one

    How to make neutral before starting

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's actually strange on this motor. I leave the choke open, close the throttle, pump the carb three times, turn the ignition on, and crank to start.

    • @joeherrera5172

      Yup, at low throttle, you hardly move

    Did 93 octane make a difference?

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. I think just using quality oil and the right mixture is more important.

      @@PatOutdoors I'm still on the 25:1 for the break in. Mine is the anbull 3.6 hp, it's basically the same motor. I did go back and read and it said 90 octane. It makes a difference on my stihl chainsaw so I figured it probably would on this motor.

      Interesting, I’m using ethanol free. I’ll see how it goes.

    These good for salt water usuage?

    • @PatOutdoors
      @PatOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This I'm not sure of, haven't tried. Though I can't think of a reason for it not to be usable in salt water other than long-term corrosion.

    • @jeradweeks
      @jeradweeks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not water cooled so why not? Just wash the shaft with soap and water when you’re done and spray something oily like penetrating oil or WD40 on it and it should limit the rust.

    • @joeherrera5172
      @joeherrera5172 ปีที่แล้ว

      My same style motor has run three times for 6 miles total seems to be working pretty well. I’ll have to keep up with any corrosion as I put grease on anything that was steel bolted.
