Insulated Water Tanks | Skoolie Conversion Ep. 34 | Adam & Steph

  • Being from Northern Ontario we've found it to be a priority to make our skoolie a 4-season home. As for our water tanks, this means we have to heat and insulate them. In this episode of our build, we do exactly that with 1.5" rigid foam insulation and electric heater pads. This multi-level tank system boasts over 100 gallons of water storage which should keep us off-grid for weeks.

    Hey guy's. Looking good as always, Adam, run those heater pads through a relay mate as they may pull more power than your average switch can take. If you have any old rubber mud flaps you can put them on the front face of your tool box and tanks to stop them sounding like a drum when stones are flicked from the tyres.

    Such professional work you guys do! The water tanks look amazing and you always have everything so well thought out, from functionality to installation! Fantastic work!

    Looking AWESOME 🤩 We’re always blown away by these projects y’all do. Having an extra tank inside is such a good idea. (also love the leak test at the end 😂😂)

      Bahahahha thanks guys! Always gotta check for leaks 😅

      I'm of the mindset you can never have too much freshwater.... The 25 gallon tank in my popup camper trailer was never enough and that rig doesn't have a shower!

    Super clean as always you two 👏🏻 looks like you really thought it through! I love the look of the gauges, they’re so fun 😍 also loved the explanation about the baffles, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else talk about that! 🧡

      Thanks guys! Adam always think so practically and it’s crazy how no one’s talked about it before when putting in large water tanks! Definitely something to consider. Hope all is well with you guys, we miss you!

    Loved the video and the crocs! 😂 we originally planned on mounting tanks underneath then moved the fresh water under the bed, but after seeing those sweet heating pads we are going to have to go back to the drawing board for sure, definitely save a lot of storage space that way. Büs work = the best core work out!

      Crocs have been our go to footwear this year.. sadly it’s no longer croc season here in northern Ontario but we can’t wait to break them out again in the spring! This bus has truly given us rock hard abs ngl! Im excited to see what you guys do with your floor plan and where you decide to put everything! 😀

    Did you test fill the tanks before boxing them in? You have water lines running outside of the insulated box, will these freeze? What about grey tanks? I’m looking forward to the video completing your water system.

    • @AdamandAtlas
      @AdamandAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      We did not fill the tanks before boxing them in and we contemplated on doing that… of course we are a little worried, but in all, we are pretty confident with our connections.. in the plumbing video we are going to test the entire system so we’ll keep ya posted on if we have any leaks! The pipes that run outside will have heat traces and be insulated as well which we will cover in the plumbing video once we post that. As for grey water, we will have one tank on the other side of the bus, which that will also be another video!

    Another awesome video and again ideal timing as we were just figuring out what to do with our 3 fresh water tanks 😂 keep up the good work! Are you also mounting the grey this way?

    • @AdamandAtlas
      @AdamandAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dude!! Yes we will be mounting the grey water on the other side pretty similarly to this!

    How do you avoid the outside tanks from moving back to front? I don't recall seeing anything put in place to stop that

  • @thetslabus

    My design, like yours, will require multiple connected tanks under the bus (although mine is for grey, not fresh). I was just going to put a heater pad on the bottom, but I like the idea of building an insulated box. Do I remember Adam mentioning a recirculating shower in an earlier video? I'm looking forward to that - his engineering brain is way more advanced than mine :)

    • @AdamandAtlas
      @AdamandAtlas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Yes we did mention a recirculating shower in our empty tour video… Adam and I have huge dreams and plans and I know it’s hard to believe but sometimes we make some sacrifices lol.. The recirculating shower is one of them. 😅 we’ve decided not to worry about doing a recirculating shower for now, and that’s when we decided to put at extra 60 gallons under our bed.. BUT we never say never, and maybe down the road we can add a recirculating shower to our system when we’re bored living on the road 😁

      @@AdamandAtlas While I'm disappointed to not have his design to copy - I completely get cutting corners at times to just get things done... I'm still demo'ing - we'll see when I get that far if I follow through on my recirc plan either, ha ha

      Reach out to us on instagram and we’ll send you our old recirculating plan. It works in theory. But for our first time building a plumbing system, we figured lets get the basics first lol
