This is one of the ingame tracks I wrote for the Blockade section of Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues on the SNES. The music uses six channels of audio and the game was released by Ocean Software.
Sorry I haven't been posting much, but thank you very much for all of your comments. It is very humbling to read so many nice comments and the memories you have playing this game and listening to the music. Thank you very much :) I just realised too, I cut this track off short - *facepalm*
Dean Evans you have no idea. I'm extremely active in the retro gaming community, and everyone loves Uematsu and Koshiro, but I point them to this track in particular and it blows minds. Such a cinematic sound from the SNES sound chip to this day is impressive.
I have to say that Ocean had some extremely talented music composers in their company :) And I just realized that the uploader is the composer! You are a very talented man :D
Nostalgy, far away childhood days. Awesome track. BLOCKADE, this level reminded me the 90's action movies (Universal Soldier, Terminator 2). Great Game.
Unbelievable!!!!! Can’t believe I found this score!! Been humming it for weeks!!! 0:55 sent chills down my spine.......bless you for composing this, bless you for posting it!!!! You just made my year!!
Snes was so god damn perfect with sound, that sometimes the graphics couldn't match BGM or FX quality at all. Some games had both at the same time. That song for example was ahead of its time.
Still have this game (played it the other day) and still hum this tune every once in a while. Blockade was always me and my brother's favorite level when we were kids, partly because we could actually beat it but mostly because of this awesome track. I still bring this game up in conversation with people when talking about underrated classics and part of my argument is the score!
This song makes me imagine sneaking around a captured facility, a la Solid Snake, and trying to carefully eliminate enemy guards while making good my escape. It really evokes a sense of claustrophobia, tension, and combative danger.
I know this for a very very long time and iam still impressed, by how "deep" this song is. You did an amazing job and the snes hardware is impressive :)
this sounds so ahead it's time, this game its from 1994 and this music could perfectly fit in a FPS game from the early 2000's like Halo or Unreal Tournament.
This is my favorite track from the entire game - it's so god damned powerful. If you time it right (aka, you're good) right when the intensity raises right around 1:29, you'll be right at the boss fight :P Such an underrated game, and the music fucking rocks.
I got this game when I was a kid (and still have it). It's super hard, but I enjoyed it anyway. I always thought its audio was really impressive. You did an awesome job with this soundtrack.
It's like Trevor Rabin teamed up with Eric Serra on a tune. And it's damn good, give some futuristic corporate dystopia feels to it. It's just... epic.
Hello mister, I just want to say I love you for this pieces of musical perfection and my parents hate you for all the years I spent playing this game all day long.
I loved this game and the music was a big standout to me, especially that intro cut scene. I'm 32 and have still never beaten the game. I used to rent this all the time and now own it as of some years ago. Thank you for uploading! Are there any "cut" songs you can share that didn't make the cut for the game?
Ah, the intro. I always hated how the orchestral hit ended up being timed with the guy opening his mouth, it looked so bloody stupid :) Sorry, there are no cut songs from the game.
@@MrBuscuit There was a lot about that game that ended up being silly and stupid, but the music is probably what I'd say is the strongest part of it. Seriously, you did a bang-up job with the sound track. I'd LOVE to hear this re-sampled with the original samples just like the new reworks of existing songs they had with SMW.
One interesting thing I've noticed about the music in this game: it never cuts off when there's too many Sfx noises happening at once. Other platformers of the time -- especially the Mario games -- you heard this all the time. The Yoshi jingle constantly muted to allow for other sounds. Makes me wonder if it included extra audio memory or DSP in the cartridge itself. Everything from the composition to the engineering was top notch for this game's audio. Pretty rare for its time.
If I remember correctly, I used (I think) 6 channels for the music and two for the effects, along with a priority placed on certain sfx that we knew would sound odd if they cut out. It ended up working out quite well.
This seriously sounds like MOD tracker tech on the SNES. One of the best SNES OST's for sure. I wonder if Dean was involved with the Super Turrican sound design too, all the Ocean stuff always had amazing music.
Man, you're so incredbile! This track was part of my chilhood and now is present in my adult life. It brings a miscelaneous of hi tech ambients with a militar hq. When i need concentration, this track brings to me
This really is an excellent track. Everyone's heard of the likes of Uematsu as some of the SNES's great composers, but it's a shame that your name is a little more obscure than that. I hope you still professionally compose.
this was a great game that kind of gets forgotten compared to the many amazing games on the system. It is an underrated gem though for sure although its a pretty tough game
Very nice, you also worked on the Jurassic Park games for Dos and Amiga right? the Amiga version is my favorite, did you make any soundtrack that didn't make it into the final game for any of the versions?
Hi Felipe, yes I worked on the original Jurassic Park on Amiga and PC, although I don't recall there being any unused tracks, which is quite unlike me :)
This is really interesting, by the way nice to meet you, isn't always that i can have a brief talk with people that worked for Ocean, you guys are really hard to find.
That "Auxiliary Power Supply" Mission was way too hard for 9 yr old me. You had to run and jump as fast as you can while getting clawed by dinos, shot at, and incinerated by flame troops. One fall from height is instant death. And at the end you have to guess the correct combination of switches with less than 10 seconds to spare (after you kill the 3 alpha raptors guarding it of course). Get lost once, you run out of time. Get tackled by dinos and soldiers more than five times, you run out of time... Its ridiculous. After replaying it 25 years later, I wondered how the hell did I beat that level when I was 8....
2021 and the Blockade theme is still one of the most bangin tracks on the SNES.
Agree
2022 and beyond.
@@barmbailey6934 2023, can confirm.
2024 confirmed

A truly majestic soundtrack. Thank you very much for giving us this! :)

Dean pretty please let me send you my copy to sign, I l o v e this OST so much
I did one of my Super League runs while this was playing in my headphones, seriously you made my Childhood and Adulthood.
Sounds like skynets T800-factory
One of my favorite game soundtracks ever.
Dethmasheen +1 ))
Very badass, gets you pumped to fight.
HOTDAMN! INCOMING WALL OF NOSTALGIA!!!
I remembered the frustration of trying to beat "Auxiliary Power" Mission on Very Hard mode.
YOU WROTE THIS?! Dude! I played the game when I was kid and just left it on this part so I could hear this song! What are you doing these days?
I have to say that Ocean had some extremely talented music composers in their company :)
And I just realized that the uploader is the composer! You are a very talented man :D
I agree.
Neo james82
Agreed, this is awesome. Brings back so many memories
Agreed! These tracks are amazing..
Absolutely dripping with atmosphere; really shows off the sound capabilities of the SNES.
Nostalgy, far away childhood days.

A perfect music for workout!!!
Best track of the game. Get stuck in my head sometimes, even after all of these years.

My ringtone 2023 - This is mission impossible music
Such a great buildup on this theme. love the industrial setting

I sure as hell wish you got to compose more for the SNES, you absolutely rock the hardware.
Up there in terms of SNES Factory music, next to Devils Lab from Final Fantasy VI.
this sounds so ahead it's time, this game its from 1994 and this music could perfectly fit in a FPS game from the early 2000's like Halo or Unreal Tournament.
The music totally made this game.
This tune is what made me buy this game! One of my favorite tracks in all of the game.

Because of your upload this song got me laid last weekend. Thank you
+olliejay22 Ladies love the dinosaur commandos.
The build up in this track is just so epic, absolutely mind blowing considering the hardware limitations back then.
You are an amazing composer! I love this soundtrack so much!
Holy moly, Grant is Solid Snake!!
I could still remember this tune clearly although I had not played this game in over 15+ years. Good job!

Great memories. I've always had this music on my mind since I first played this game!!! Love it!!
Hello mister, I just want to say I love you for this pieces of musical perfection and my parents hate you for all the years I spent playing this game all day long.
That it did, Jonathan Dunn and Dean Evans truly knew the SPC700
From time to time I get myself with this music playing in my head!
You did great work!

Hooked at around 10 seconds.
Why are you so talented? :3
Absolutely loved this game growing up to bad I could never beat the last mission sooooo many raptors
Show de bola amazing.
Man, the strings at 1:58 are giving me such Unreal Tournament/Deus Ex vibes (disregard that those came out later that decade). I like that.
I love it only reason I played this game
The game had a banging soundtrack. Were you also the person behind the amazing OST in Lethal Weapon on SNES?
Featuring all new Dinosaurs!!!! Humans!
How did you get these FM type of sounds? They're even modulating, how?
This would be perfect for a SNES Metal Gear Solid game
The kind of music if the Modern Warfare CoDs were on the SNES!
I wonder how studio recordings using the uncompressed instruments would sound?
Austin Reed omg yes @dean pleaseeee
This song remember me the Phyrexians Praetors (MTG)
I used to love never shooting until the part at 1:32 started
Ojalá lo hagan en las películas

What sort of process did you use to compose music for this SNES title? Did you write music out first and transpose it into an SDK?
