Fender has really made me angry calling that Six String bass a "Bass VI". That's just going to confuse the issue even more, guess we can go back to calling the bass vi a baritone to really make things confusing. Fender just wrecked the "bass vi" branding they've been using for over 50 years!
@@fladification Agreed. This was very interesting for Squier to call it a “VI” after this video and realizing it’s not your typical VI bass that VI basses are. Who knows. Maybe Squier might change the name or just leave us confused like Ernie Ball Sterling by Sterling 🤣💀
After not playing for 10 years I was kinda shocked to discover the bass vi (yes I know they've been around since the 50s) but struggled to actually find anything other than fender or squier online.
Just received that Sea Foam Jazz Bass this morning, and honestly it looks even better in person than it does in the pictures. Not sure if they've offered this color before but I'm glad I picked it up!!
I dare say, we have brands like Sire, Harley Benton and some others to thank for these. They, thankfully, have upended the lower to mid tier bass market. In a time where high-end and boutique basses are starting at close to two grand!

Just got my Jazz 6. It's better quality than I expected. I had a Fender made in Mexico P bass and this made in China Squier plays better. Maybe they are trying hard because this is a new line. I am really happy with it.
So why couldn't the six have the two-band preamp, Squire? Still nice to see, though. Incredible prices on these basses! Edit: definitely 70's spacing on the 4s and 5s...the 6 is 60's spacing
The preamp from the contemporary basses was boost only. It’s nice that the preamp for these affinity basses is boost/cut. And a satin finish on the neck?! I’m definitely gonna check out these basses once they’re in stores.
Jesus… do you know how hard it was to convince my wife to preorder the Antigua BEFORE the Shell Pink Rascal we ordered was delivered when they restocked the Shell Pink? Now I have to convince her that I “need” to pre-order ANOTHER bass that I can’t touch till NEXT YEAR? This is like ordering my Sire in 2020….
Heck, why did the VI have to start in the Affinity range? With what Squier has done with the 40th Anniversary series, the Paranormal Series… This would have been PERFECT as a “Paranormal Jazz Bass VI”. Step up to some “Fender Designed AlNiCo 5” or heck, mod it for us with some Bartolini passive pickups… I would pay TWICE as much for it if it had more bells and whistles (and wasn’t a Affinity series). But, like he said, perfect foundation to modify…
Squier released a three bands active electronics under the series "active deluxe" fifteen years ago, approximately when they also started the production of classic vibe and vintage modified series Now these affinity active models are two band concentric bass/treble active circuitry Also this affinity 6 string derives from the really eccentric and expensive Steve Bailey jazz bass 6, also released for a few years starting fifteen years ago... go check it out, considering the unusual diagonal string retainer, also deriving directly from the Steve Bailey design Finally the non binding design also calls back to the, again, fifteen years ago 50th anniversary jazz bass model (and all the 34" scale p/j jaguar models deriving from the flagship anniversary jazz bass) I'd probably buy both active jazz 5er and the passive 6er (which I've in fact already ordered from our domestic Fender distributor)
Something I would like to know is if those pickups could be fitted into a pre-existing Bass Six from the Vintage Modified line. This new model definitely has a temptation, but I feel more inclined to stick with the model I have if it could be upgraded that way.
Any of these new basses a short scale? I’m looking for some solid short scale models. I’m a guitar playing wanting to broaden my horizons, but the 36” bass I got for free seems to cause me joint pain in my fingers (it’s setup well, good D’addario strings, etc.). I had been looking at those $300 Gretsch basses, but maybe I need to check these new options out. Have you done a recent short scale recommendation vid? That Bass VI also looks sweet. I’ve been torn about 4 string bass vs 6 string - like I said, I play guitar. I’d love a traditional 4 string bass experience/tone, but imagine all the possibilities- plus maybe it won’t hurt my joints as much because I imagine the string gauge doesn’t get nearly as thick as light gauge bass strings, lol. Would love a vid on this stuff if you havent done one yet - I haven’t seen a video like this from you for guitar players wanting a short scale and/or bass VI type deal. Recommendations, pros/cons, how to decide what’s right, etc.
@@MashaT22 Unfortunately these new basses in this video are not short scale basses. However, It's interesting that you mentioned short scale basses. Bass VI will be 34" The Squier Jaguar bass is 32" if you're looking for something a little shorter, have a look at the Sonic Bronco and the Gretch Junior Jet.
Yes, don’t know why Fender took them down there site but the new player series II will see a return of Rosewood fretboards with rolled fingerboard edges!!!
Dang. Was really thinking they were introducing a bass vi with JB style pickups which would be a dream come true. Judging by the scale length (34in) this is just a 6 string jazz bass. Misleading name. I hope fender modernizes the bass vi or releases a variant with pickups that make it sound a little more like a standard p or jazz bass. 🤞
Sire V3 is active/passive with 3 band EQ and edgeless neck. The quality of their bass are way more superior then any squier. I own squiers and and also have the Sire V3
I am looking forward to the release of these basses I want them in the hands of reviewers I trust I don't expect the moon for 300 bucks but if it's a good base platform I'm willing to work with it as far as modding goes as long as there is a aftermarket part that's precieved to better than the original modding will never end I have my eye on a white one I hope they are worth the wait

Agreed. There IS a difference between a 6 string bass, and Bass VI. Yes they are bass that have 6 strings, but they are not the same instrument.

I'm a little tempted to buy the 6 string J Bass and throw some Nordstrands in there.

Im thinking about it, but I'll need to find a bridge that allows string spacing adjustments. 17mm is tiny
